Canoo had a van design that piqued my interest, because it looked futuristic and practical, kind of like Rivian with their SUV & pickup truck. Seems like Rivian may make it, while Canoo keeps treading water. It was not good they turned away would be buyers, when they only wanted to do monthly rentals or whatever it was.

This person was also the one that helped bring the original i3 and i8 to market when BMW had to prove to their board and customer that electric was viable.

Love him or hate him, the front of that i8 is worlds better than the hideous i4.

I'm not terribly surprised that the self driving car business seems to have an above average concentration of frauds and charlatans-- it was a necessary gift to convince the investor class that this was all going to happen inside 10 years.

What I don't understand is why NASA needs 3 bespoke vans and can't just reconfigure a Dodge Caravan for the 9 mile trip.

That said, that’s a whole lot of ugly

But does it matter for the intended purpose/market?

Noone cares how a city bus looks and very few care about what the Uber looks they called.
At these points it's all about if it is practical/comfortable for the passenger and economic for the one running the service.

Even with private cars that is true today.

I can only imagine the kind of playground that Apple is creating for themselves with their own branded EV. I haven’t been keeping up on this topic but if Apple’s philosophy on their device repairs and costs extends to their EV, I’d be concerned if ever I wanted to own an EV.

Battery technology will need to make immense strides in multiple areas for me to ever consider one. Maybe Apple hopes they can sell their EV on the same upgrade cycle that they push with iPhones and iPads. The batteries in EVs begin to lose considerable capacity after 5-7 years of use, and replacement cost of the batteries in an EV usually costs more than the car is worth by that time. I personally think that hydrogen fuel cells are more promising.

I would imagine that Apple wants to design something modular and easily serviceable, including the batteries. This just isn’t possible with the size of their devices without major compromises. A vehicle would not have these limitations.

A rare case of rich guy getting caught in the act. Apple should ditch this guy, and fast.
You’re totally right, it would be shocking if Apple keeps this guy, this is a MAJOR integrity issue and puts the question forward did Kranz take something with him to Apple that belongs to Canoo… 🧐 someone needs to look deeply into this matter and I am sure they will. More to come!

I was going to say default not guilty, as anything politicians can do anyone should be able to do

That said, that’s a whole lot of ugly

Not that he’s a gem ether, what’s up with his head?

Guilty!!!!!
Clearly, according to the charging documents filed by the SEC, he is without a doubt Guilty, he’s been changed and agreed to be bared from serving as a director, officer, etc for years and has to pay back 100’s of thousands of dollars which seems like peanuts for what he did… WOW, Apple, this isn’t what you stand for, is it?

The investigation is done. This isn’t really a question mark. Per the SEC release, charges have already been brought and Kranz has himself already agreed to an “entry of judgment” finding that he is guilty of various violations of U.S. federal securities laws, including those prohibiting fraud or deceit. He’s not admitting or denying the allegations but is allowing a finding that he violated the law and the imposition of penalties.

More info, including a link to the complaint outlining specific violations, is at https://www.sec.gov/litigation/litreleases/lr-25802

Just because someone is guilt of the crime, doesn’t mean a jury of their peers should find them guilty ie jury nullification, a topic which should be taught much more in schools

Not accurately predicting how much the organization would make and misstating his income? If that’s a crime most everyone in government is guilty, oh but that’s different 😂

The four boxes of liberty is an 19th century American idea that proposes: "There are four boxes to be used in the defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and cartridge. Please use in that order."

The soap box represents exercising one's right to freedom of speech to influence politics to defend liberty. The ballot box represents exercising one's right to vote to elect a government which defends liberty. The jury box represents using jury nullification to refuse to convict someone being prosecuted for breaking an unjust law that decreases liberty. The cartridge box represents exercising one's right to keep and bear arms to oppose, in armed conflict, a tyrannical government. The four boxes represent increasingly forceful methods of political action.”

Now if they charged him with abusing others eyeballs with ugly, guilty all day long!

I will give credit where it’s due in their new stuff, the new R18 is beautiful, even though it’s a remake of a old design

I hope they're not dead. If they are, we're gonna be screwed in Europe, where most of the countries have set imminent deadlines that will soon make it illegal to sell cars powered by an internal combustion engine. Assuming respective governments don't row back on those commitments, of course. So, guess we'll all be walking...cycling....
Many Americans are incredibly insular in their thinking, which is why they don't think about how the rest of the world views something. EV's are not dead, because if Europe wants them, that is a big enough market to ensure they are made.

Americans just don’t care about Europe, unlike the rest of the world we don’t occupy ourselves with what other places are doing, as we don’t need to, what works in a tiny euro country is a long way off from what would work in rural America, which despite what the media says is the majority of America

In the US the electric vehicles are a niche luxury buy for select people in select areas

That’s a little extreme but yeah… outside of NYC or SanFran, it’s all about torque and range… around here, if a fairly expensive vehicle can’t tow a boat trailer 300 miles, the number of potential buyers is cut very drastically. Even my wife’s glorified “I-am-not-a-minivan” has a very respectable towing capacity.

Unfortunately in the EV world, towing capacity is a luxury, unlike speed.

Why would they want to do that? And of course a vehicle would have those limitations - just take a look at Tesla. Other than very basic maintenance, Apple will be just like Tesla.

If the Apple Car is actually going to be real I think Apple needs to start their Apple Bank before launch so people can finance their loans through Apple. It would allow Apple to ditch GS for the Apple Card and Savings account too.
