You're not wrong that Apple Card has a higher percentage of younger cardholders than most other credit cards (source), but as CoMoMacUser suggests, they've chosen an odd benefit partner if younger audience is their actual target. I would suggest Apple being adopted by 20 and 30-somethings has more to do with GS playing fast and loose with with credit score strike points for approval than anything particularly appealing about the Card for Gen Z.

The one feature unique to Apple Card is easy financing of Apple purchases. Hard to do that with a competing card unless you've got a zero-interest grace period offer or something.

Meanwhile gen z is saying “wtf is amex, citi, and who tf is edward Jones?”

Apple is always focused on the younger generation. Apple Card doesn’t make sense for older people, everything about it is geared to a newer generation. For me it’s just an ok card, but if you have kids, it’s an incredible and easily managed card for them.

My child had their physical card stolen last month and within a minute of the thief spending $3000 at target. Click on the map information for the transaction in real time to laugh. Then message apple on iMessage to shut off the card and have a replacement sent.
I am older and I love the card. I only wish that the website would show transactions. The extra cool thing they should be able to do is have it so if the card is separated from your device, it would at the very least verify purchases. Do they have fraud protection?

When I buy an Apple device, I always use my AMEX because it automatically doubles the warranty period. And that's on top of the cash back.

I can't think of any cards other than Apple that aren't store or major branded with the store that let you do deferred interest.

Maybe another challenge is that credit cards simply aren't sexy. There's no cachet to them like a phone, where you can use the logo on the back and the number of camera lenses to flaunt your spending like a peacock fans its feathers. Flashing your titanium AC in the club doesn't necessarily tell everyone that you're capable of poppin' bottles in VIP. It's a tough product to differentiate in the ways that Apple products typically have.

What is the fine print? Are we talking full on one year Apple warranty extension?

It used to be a pain to cancel your WSJ sub as you had to call in to cancel, but it can be done online now. Just log into your account and then go to Manage/Cancel Subscription(s) to cancel.

Before this, I'd have to either lock my card or update the payment method to a virtual card with a $1 balance. After a couple repeated and failed attempts to charge your card, your sub would get cancelled.

They still made me call to cancel. The online didn’t work for me.

Probably because I was on a one year intro offer rate :/

Whether the device is from Apple, Samsung, Vizio or whoever, once the manufacturer's warranty expires, AMEX will cover the repair costs for the same amount of time. Suppose that the warranty is one year, and it breaks after 18 months. I pay for the repairs, and then AMEX pays me back.

You have to drop it hard enough to hear the titanium ching. Othereise I agree my YODA Chase card got more attention than the Apple Card

And other than Original or maybe when you still had to pay $100+ with subsidy, it may have been somewhat of a status symbol. But with installments, you pay <$100/month. I'd think someone with the diamond from I am Rich on their iPhone screen was cooler.

The ones I hate are the ones that even online, they say you lose the entire sub if you cancel early. All they want is for you to forget and get hit with the whole next year.

WSJ is one of the best, most insightful, and most impactful publications out there. Joanna Stern is one of the top tech columnists in the world. The depth and breadth of information covered is easily worth it.

If you're a new Apple Card member, this should be a no-brainer, even despite that little WSJ opinion disclaimer.
It’s by far the best newspaper .

Do they have a Grogu/baby Yoda one? My wife would love that.
Not sure, we canceled a while back. You can check if you have an active account. Not sure if you can Google the choices without an active account or not...

There it is!!!!

I agree. You would think they might care more about the customers that are actually keeping them in business. I guess "growth" is more important.
At least some of the better ones will tell you those tricks or give some retention deals. And the others are like don't let the door hit you on the way out :(

Wish they would open this up to current Apple Card holders! Would be nice to get extra perks every once and awhile for having an open AC account.

They should. I work in telecom, and customer churn is one of the metrics that analysts and investors scrutinize when assessing wireless carriers, cable operators, etc. Part of the reason is because when a company loses a lot of customers, they have to spend a lot of money to attract their replacements, such as with sweetheart deals on phones. All of those discounts and other incentives delay the point at which a new customer becomes profitable. It also puts a drag on ARPU (average revenue per user), which is another key metric.

This probably is the case in other industries, too.

I don’t even want to use physical cards. The only fraud protection I want is to be alerted to activity and be able to respond accordingly. In that way the Apple Card serves my purposes. Even links geolocation with all transactions.

I get alerts when my MagSafe wallet detaches from my phone. So maybe in the future they can expose something in Apple Card that makes transactions more stringent if it’s separated from you so long and/or the geolocation is so far from your known location.

I think I got some ATV+ once, but you can probably find that anywhere if you search hard enough. Got these two months through Groupon. Gonna go buy some Cracker Jacks when this one is about to end
