Is an Apple Credit card required to open a savings account?
Yes
This may sound like a lot but it's not. You can get 4.47% (7-day yield in the link below) with Fidelity's money market fund. It is super safe at this point with no limits. You can probably do even better with Vanguard.

I reiterate that Apple needs to stop doing financial engineering and switch to doing real engineering. Make their products something that bring satisfaction rather than aiming to be the least bad option.
FDRXX is at 4.51% This is a core account used to hold money.

My wife and I are on a joint owner's account (Apple Card) - and we were each able to open savings account - but individual. So yeah no 1 savings account for both of us, but individual. I would have preferred a joint savings but oh well.

I'm not sure if I'd rather Apple get into banking -- highly volatile in today's world -- or stick to developing excellent innovative tech.

But with Tim in charge, I guess they have a lot of time on their hands not developing excellent innovative tech...
Banking is one of safest most stable businesses in the world if you dont do stupid things and focus on banking.

Make sure you read the terms and apply to opt-out of the Arbitration Provision within 90 days. This will allow you to sue Goldman Sachs in the event they mistreat your savings, especially with high deposits.

EDIT: Upon reading the agreement further, this also applies to Apple. Meaning, you also reinstate your rights to sue Apple for the Savings account, mistreatment for failure to comply with provisions on the Agreement.

Now, if only I could automatically pay off my monthly Apple Card balance from this new savings account. My sense is that they're never going to allow this. The account was easy to setup and transfer money to... but there is no account number nor ABA number to set this up. (I get it...it's a savings account and not a checking account... but I pay off my other credit cards and monthly bills directly from savings accounts.)

if you want to add funds to apple savings, use your apple cash as it will be instant, much better

vs.

adding funds direct to apple savings within apple savings, it states $xxx amount pending + that funds are typically available for withdrawal by 5th business day + interest starts from day initiated

Why do you remind me of this South Park episode? 😂

but we can't pay our apple credit card with this savings account correct? so still need a checking account middle man?
Not quite true. Once you get the details (routing number and account number) for your Apple Savings account, you can add that as a card to your bank accounts (card details screen). Then you can use your savings account to make a payment. Not as seamless as it should be, but possible to do now.

They do provide routing and account numbers. I wonder what would happen if we add these to Apple Card as another bank account…
