Kind of bad ish , chip reading fails at least every 5-7 time i use it and have to use the magnetic strip and no its not my card because next time it works in the same card terminal

Or force me to use apple pay with my watch or phone instead that i always forgett i have can use in most larger stores:)

But its not a huge deal whatever comes.

I think overall it’s a positive, especially for security. The only potential downside is when using the card for travelling. Some countries and particularly poorer countries will take a really long time to get up to date.

In Thailand for example using a card is discouraged save for in large malls and supermarkets. If you try to use your card at smaller stores you’ll often be asked to use cash due to a reluctance to incur card fees. I can’t see them updating their terminals any time soon.

2029?! Strips are horrible. The bank I use have terrible strips and don't last at all. Get rid of them, and force retailers to use better chip/contactless readers.

I was just thinking about this the other day when I was at Portillo's. The cashier swiped my card 'the old fashioned way' and got me thinking: when are we ever going to get rid of the mag stripe?

My go-to is always going to be Pay via my Watch, followed by chip and then tapping my card to the wireless reader. Hate swiping.

The decision comes as consumers have changed their payment habits to prefer newer, more secure technologies.
No, sorry. I still prefer the magnetic strip, it's far faster and easier. Swipe and that's it. With the chip, I need to insert, wait, wait to prompt to remove it. It's literally 3x the mental effort as a magnetic strip.

Since I'm not liable for charges that I don't authorize, security really doesn't matter to me (as a consumer). I use a chip because that's all that's offered to me - unless my chip fails 3x in a row, then I get to use the sweet sweet magnet.

Just sayin'.

Apple should add NFC onto Apple Card, so that it can be used with contactless payment readers (and hopefully also get Apple Pay bonus). As it stands, I see no reason to carry the physical Apple Card and get only 1% cash back.

i was very surprised that they didn't.

Don't know about Thailand, but in Mexico, stripe/swipe is not even possible anymore with Mexican issued cards, chip & pin (and now slowly, contactless) is the norm. The cards do come with a stripe but if you try to pay by swipe it doesn't work, they've been effectively disabled, payments have required chip & pin since at least 10 years I think.

There's been a revolution as well in LATAM's largest countries with electronic payments, services similar to Zettle & Stripe (Mercado Pago et al) have allowed even street stands to accept card payment.

It's getting to the point where when I have to take out the physical card, it feels clunky and inconvenient. Time to eliminate the card altogether. Apple Pay has been demonstrated to be secure and reliable enough for most transactions.
