Come to our local post office for such entertainment. 🤣WHAT? You still use magnetic stripes in the US? Haven't seen one of those in years, let alone used one.

Walmart is strange. Their leadership seems to have a plan, but as a customer, it doesn't always feel right. I feel like they want to take on Amazon.com before Amazon takes on their Brick & Morter business. The issue is, for me at least, Walmart stores and Walmart.com are miserable places to shop and while Walmart.com and Walmart do work together it feels like they are roommates that only talk when the rent is due.I wish Wally World would finally take Apple Pay. I still go there for things like kitty litter and car stuff sometimes, and it's close to home.
A few years ago I was at a PF Chang's for a group lunch when the power went off. They pulled one of these out so we could pay. Quite surprising! Can you even imagine letting a clerk make an imprint of your credit card these days?
This is like, "Yes, please rip me off!"View attachment 1819839
Before I got an EV I would always use contactless at Gas stations. Usually through the Exxon/Mobile app or Sunoco app.Oh yes. VERY common at gas stations. It's very uncommon for me to use contactless at the pump.

Banks have nothing to do with it. All the cards in the US are already issued with chips. Each business decides what type of reader to use. Here's a thought - get rid of the damn card altogether!!! Digital - on our phones / watches only!!
We really need the banks to get their head out of their a*s - contactless everywhere already!!!
Costco gas stations have contactless now. Much nicer!
Now if only Costco would make their membership card contactless as well.
What's wild is that there's still some merchants that will take a card imprint. When I rented a jet ski in Key West a few years ago, the vendor took an imprint of my card.Good one. I bet most people nowadays don't even know what that was for![]()
i got that, but those damn connectors made me think of that god damn zip drive that i had to shlep around in collegeLOL! That's the credit card reader.
I bet this is also a top story on the Mastercard Rumors site.
And will be completely obsolete when the time does arrive. In 8 years I expect we won't be carrying cards any more than cash. You can tell a slow news day when we get info that won't matter for 8 years. LOL.
I'm sure it's safe to assume that in 8 years the chip readers will be FAR more reliable.Kind of bad ish , chip reading fails at least every 5-7 time i use it and have to use the magnetic strip and no its not my card because next time it works in the same card terminal
if you're talking about florida — i spent the winter there and it's doing much much better than nyc in the contactless department. only a couple of times did i have to use a physical card in the 7 months spent there. It took a pandemic to get Publix to start accepting contactless payments. I wish I could use it everywhere.
Tapping an NFC card and Apple Pay are the exact same thing. There's no reason to offer NFC in the card (which is insecure since anyone can use it) over fully authenticated Apple Pay.i was very surprised that they didn't.
Now if only Costco would make their membership card contactless as well.
Sadly around here I'm pretty sure you'd run out of gas before you found a pay at the pump that took anything other than the magnetic stripe. It's sad, especially when every little food truck or shop around here use those little Square terminals that let me pay with my watch.Interestingly, The ARCO am/pm stations in Sacramento, CA have all switched to new card readers that use chip reading instead of stripe reading.
BUT THEY HOLD 100 FLOPPIES PER DISK! LOL. I purchased the Jaz drive while in college. At least there was a reasonable chance that someone else would have a ZIP drive..i got that, but those damn connectors made me think of that god damn zip drive that i had to shlep around in college![]()
it kinda feels like there is lack there — when compared to other credit cards that do have the feature. but i suppose you're right!Tapping an NFC card and Apple Pay are the exact same thing.
