Credit cards are for the insolvent nowadays. Financially prudent people use debit cards. I've been using Wise debit with Apple Pay (store permitting) or its physical card almost anywhere I go.

Financially prudent people should be using credit cards over debit cards as they can provide better fraud protection, rewards programs like cash back, improve or help maintain high credit score, etc. It's much better to use a credit card as long as it's used “responsibly” (don’t carry a balance).

I think Apple Card will not be so popular in Europe, as it has a very high interest rate, so won’t be so lucrative for local customers. It is quite easy in Europe to get personal loans ranging from 150€-75000€ with the interest rates between 2 to 7%. Who would want to pay Apple Card’s interest of 20+%?

PS Love your signature! 😉✌️
I think if it were to come to Europe — it would be 'hosted' by a European bank and the conditions would be different. Mind you, not everyone cares about the interest rate — some of us pay everything off and just use it for cash back and the lovely aesthetic. :)

Thanks! :))

Kroger’s Family credit card gives 5% cash back for Apple Pay

At Kroger.

I am surprised people still want a credit card, I only have a debit card, no more credit card for me.

Why wouldn't I want one? We have six between the wife and I and haven't paid a cent interest in 15 years, yet we get a few hundred back per month in cash-back. In addition, if someone gets into my debit card, they can clean my bank account out; can't do that with a credit card.

Seems like a simple choice to me.

Meh, I don't live in a negative world where I expect the worse, read into rumors, etc. There's been tons of bad rumors about the Apple Card since its launched, none of it has come true. Sure eventually something might happen, but I'm not going to focus on the negative.

I've had this card since it launched and it's been flawless, so I'm happy and will continue to be happy :)
If you think Goldman wanting out of the agreement is a rumor, man you’ll be in for a reality check soon.

I've been waiting for almost five years here in Canada with a teased release from way back.
Too bad. So sad.
Apple could have made a ton of money from me.

It’s my default card for Apple Pay. Would never use as my daily driver but 2% on Apple Pay is good enough for me to use it. It’s also my go to international card but my only complaint is that it declines many international purchases I try to make online.

Wrong. Kroger Family credit card gives 5% cash back on all mobile wallet (Apple Pay) payments for the first $3000 in Apple Pay spending each year, and 2% cash back after the first $3000. Yes even outside of Kroger

The reason why is simple (for Europe and the UK, at least...) A few years back, the EU capped the amount of money credit card companies can make on each transaction. This was well-meaning like much of what they do, but it means the available profit is not there to anything like the extent it is in the US market. In the EU the profit now comes mainly from the gap between those who pay off their cards monthly and those who carry debt longer term.

The only time I used my brand new Apple Card, I was hoping to impress a cute young waitress with the new titanium proof of my credit worthiness. I now use Apple Pay, so you know how well that worked!

Interesting. Apple Wallet makes using various cards easy. I spend $600 a month at Kroger and am now using a 3% card for groceries instead of Apple Card with Apple Pay, so I could get an extra $60 back if I got a Kroger card and used it for five months. But then my Chase card does 5% on groceries for three months a year, so I'd have to have a schedule! Haha [edit: imagine if Wallet could be scheduled to select among cards and for which store.]

But honestly, the points do add up and it's gotten me to the place where i now pay more attention to the cost of items and what I can do without, as that helps too.

and you make it sound like its this horrible thing and the Apple Card will be doomed. If it ever happens, I trust Apple enough that they'll handle things well, but I know MacRumors is full of Anti-Apple so 🤷🏼‍♂️ I still love my Apple Card

i used to love apple card until i got screwed over. long story short. i used it to pay back my apple loan to apple upgrade program through citizens. needless to say i made three months worth of payments. something happened with the phone. the supervisor decided to give me a one time exception to send the phone back. needless to say citizens had a surplus credit of over 200 dollars. they kept telling me they will release the funds. until one day it mysteriously disappeared. i disputed the charges with apple card. they removed the charges and kept recharging. i closed my card. so i thought. the charges came back wasn't mailed emailed or anything of these recharges. since i had no idea of these charges a late non payment went on my credit history!! in 30+ years never had this. so i paid citizens they kept my money and then i had to pay apple card back. i felt so betrayed! even with all the proof of returning the device.

Gee, if no other bank picks up the lending for the Apple Card... Guess what.... It's doomed.

Love my AC. Had it since day one and it's been my daily driver for everyday purchases + all things Apple and in that time I've earned thousands of dollars in Apple Cash. Best card I've ever had.

Dang sorry about your experience!

My limit also started around $1,000 (I don't recall), I've never contacted Apple once, all I did was use the card extensively all the time, nearly maxing it out, then paying off the balance at the end of the month.

So I'd spend $1,000 every month and pay it off, til they raised it to like $4,000
Then I'd spend $4,000 every month and pay it off, til they raised it to like $15,000
Then I'd spend $15,000 every month and pay it off, til they raised it to $50,000.

I don't make enough money to max out $50k every month and spend it, so it's been chilling at this limit for over a year now. Spending $15,000 was even rough as I don't even make that much, but I started buying stuff and reselling it, or buying tons of movie tickets for friends and they'd pay me back, juts any way to maximize the card.

Not sure if any of that helps you, but that's my experience!

Matt, thanks for the details.
I did use your system when I bought a MBP, but only that one month.
Otherwise I typically put less than $100/mo on it. must not be enough to set off their automated rules.

I would say that I'm not really comfortable having a relationship with GS. I have them entered in Contacts as "Squid".

Wow, it's hard to believe that it's been 5 years! I'm one of the "early" adopters. I applied as soon as the credit card came out and was accepted pretty soon. My physical card was renewed and now has an expiration that is about 15 years into the future! 15 years??? I don't know if that's an error but that's what my phone says! I've never heard of CC's with expiration dates that far into the future.
