Seems safe to shower with the watch. I don't know if I will....but if I do, I want to make sure that it would be covered. One day running and it starts to rain and then find out that Apple wouldn't cover it would be annoying.

I have also banged my watch on a metal stair well going around corners too quickly.

So yes for AppleCare + for me. Well yes as long as it is reasonable. $49-$79 sounds reasonable for the Sport model and $79-$99 for the SS.

I fully intent to shower with mine, and if it stops working due to water damage AC+ is that extra "insurance"

According to Apple, that Watch costs $599, or if you could separate the band, $550. This would mean that only the 38mm SS version, and not the space black one, would be covered.

That may be true ... but 3 years instead of 2 and the lower deductible offsets the additional $50.

I wonder if the bands will also be covered in Apple Care+, and in Square Trade?

Why do you need to insure a watch band?

I've found AppleCare invaluable especially on a new unproven product. Especially if one decides to sell within the warranty period. Well known by nearly everyone my choice is always AppleCare without hesitation.

I'm saying there doesn't seem to be a coverage option for the Apple Watch at all through square trade since it costs over $500. They'll likely create one though.

No matter the cost, I will get AC. Brand new untested in the wild. I'm sure I will be the pioneer in finding a new way to break my watch!

That being said, my daily wear R watch has never had a problem. I have even banged it against a jail door with only a slight scratch on the case.

People sometimes ask me, "why do you wear that to work?" I bought it to wear and enjoy every day. Not to keep it locked up in a safe and wear it only a few times a year for special occasions.

I own lots of watches and I am always careful with them but over the years they do show evidence of regular use. Even my Rolex has a couple of minor scratches in the glass face and a few marks on the stainless steel strap.
The AW will be exposed to knocks, bangs just like any other watch and rubbing on the glass and strap from long sleeved sweat shirts, work shirts, sweaters etc will take its toll eventually especially if you intend to keep an AW for three or four years.
If they release a new watch every year then I will replace it annually as I do with my iPhone and iPad but if it's two or three years between generations then yeah I might take out Apple Care

AppleCare would be worth is, though not sure about AC+. A wrist watch is not as likely to get damaged as a phone , though the water resistance does worry me...
