I got Apple care with my series 0 ss sb. It’s up in about 3 weeks. This morning I took the watch off the charger and the back sapphire came off. Fortunately I have a series 3 on order but if I didn’t I think it’s a pretty cheap insurance option. The battery has been better than I expected at two years but you never know.

I usually never buy apple care for any of my devices but with the Apple Watch for only $49 it was a no-brainer.

Ok, so everyone’s exposure and tolerance for risk is different. As for me and my particular situation, I look at it like this:

AppleCare is $49. My Watch costs $429.
...
In this case, AppleCare doesn’t make sense for me.

Agreed, everyone’s risk tolerance is different.

I don’t usually get AC. Broke my phone screen and it cost me $130, about the same as if I had AC.
What convinced me to get AC for my watch is that the out-of-warranty cost to replace my watch screen is $289!
To me, that makes it more compelling for Watch AC, than iPhone AC.

(Of course if I break my phone screen again, in the next year, I’ll have wished I got AC for it :) )

Thanks for the inputs. Since I have 60 days to decide, I will wait a while more to decide based on how I am using it on a daily basis. (Probably a bad idea if I am eventually getting since Apple Care+ gives more coverage even in the first year). I agree it is not as likely to drop the watch compared to the phone. However, banging the watch again a hard object like door / table is definitely not very uncommon. I am not too concern with hardware malfunction since it usually happens after 2 years which Apple Care+ will be useless. This happens to iPhone which I bought Apple Care+ but it went crazy on 25th month of my ownership. In the end, paid another $228 to fix the screen. :(

Only if you haven't broken your Watch first. AppleCare+ needs to be purchased within the first few days if not at the same time, else you'd need to bring it in for inspection - ie you can't expect to break it then purchase AC+ to cover it. That's my understanding despite that "60 days".

My understanding is as long as it is not purchased together with the watch, there will be a diagnostic test but can be done remotely.

You are correct. Apple runs remote diagnostics. That’s how I purchased my AC a few days after buying my AW3 in the store.

Just bought my Apple Watch Series 3 few days ago but yet to get the Apple Care+. I usually get Apple Care+ for all my Apple products including iPhone and iMac but not sure if I should get one for the watch. Any advice will be appreciated.

I bought Apple Care for my Series 2 & am glad I did. Without knowing how it would hold up (after reading all of the horror stories of watch damage on here), I wanted the extra protection that Apple Care gives me. Having had the watch for 10 months now, worn every day and not babied, it still looks like brand new & I probably won't get Apple Care when I upgrade the watch in the future, but I'd highly recommend it for a first time watch buyer, until you know how watches hold up for you.

I purchased a SS SB and AC+ is £59 here in the UK.

I am going to purchase it in the next week (for added peace of mind). My main motivation is the 'unlikely' scenario of dropping the watch.

One question: How does AC+ work? I know there is a £49 excess, but do they give you a new watch? Or a refurbished one?

I thought I read that they repaired yours and gave you a loaner? I could be TOTALLY mis-remembering...

Sorry...on that, I'm betting we both know the answer? ;) Gotta be like the iPhone policy? Honestly, that never bothered me (giving me a refurb to replace my used iPhone).

Haha, I really don't know! I have AC for my MacBook, but never got one for the iPhone (and never had one fail one me since 2009).

My launch Apple Watch actually developed a fault with the screen after 6 weeks, and Apple sent it off. A week later I went to pick it up and it couldn't have been repaired, so they gave me a new one. It came in a square box. I a not sure if it was a new or refurb, but couldn't find anything wrong with it. Am pretty sure it was new, just not in the official retail packaging.

The reason I ask is because I see the watch as much more of a personal item. it is the only gadget that is actually "on" you, so from a personal standpoint, I'd not be keen on a 'refurb'. (Not knocking anyone who does get a 2nd hand/refurb watch).

I got it with my gen 0 SS and right at 2 years the face popped off and they replaced it for free. Otherwise I'd been out the cost of a SS AW. So I'd get it.

You should be able to tell if it’s a refurb from the model number.

If it was caused by the battery, then it probably would’ve been done for free anyway as a customer satisfaction issue.

I used to buy AC+ on my phones and had a couple replaced, but they were both refurbs. Honestly, other than the box, you would never have known. I have no issues with Apple refurbs at all.

The refurbs are meant to include new shells and fresh batteries, so in many cases the only bits that may not be "new" would be the circuit boards, storage etc.

Yes, get AC+ for the Watch. This is why - accidents happen and it only cost me another $49 after the AC+ policy cost to make the problem go away.

That's mostly true, however some of the refurbished models also don't have the casing replaced. Other forum members have mentioned their refurbished Apple watches have had minor scratches on the outside casing's when they received them.
