That's mostly true, however some of the refurbished models also don't have the casing replaced. Other forum members have mentioned their refurbished Apple watches have had minor scratches on the outside casing's when they received them.

Hmm... not sure I'd like that under AppleCare+!

I have AppleCare on my expensive iPad Pro because it would just be ridiculously expensive to fix or replace. My first gen pro’s screen replacement was gonna be $600. That experience convinced me to get AppleCare for iPad forever from now on.

iPhone? Sure. Same principle.

Apple Watch? Less expensive to replace if something bad happens and in my case, the probability of something bad happening is less than my phone. I’ve bumped my wrist into a wall maybe once and otherwise, even my old og Apple Watch after 2 years of use looked just about perfect.

And remember. You get a 1 year warranty with it too. After the year point, I kinda don’t care if I have to risk buying a new one

I'm not sure how the laws work in the USA, but in the UK you can get a refund on your AppleCare+ pro-rated for the length you've had the policy (and as long as there have been no claims.)

So for me it makes sense to buy it for the peace of mind for the duration I own the device and refund the remainder when I sell on. I've done this with iPhones and iPads and as this is my first Apple Watch do the same with that.

I hope this helps anyone unsure about insuring or not.

AppleCare+ is not AppleCare as it includes an extra, albeit limited form of, coverage for accidental damage not available for your iMac.

I'd suggest it for the iPad Pro where Apple does not offer cheaper glass replacement (eg here in Australia), and I'll be getting it for the Watch this time round for peace of mind. Despite being "swim proof", Apple might still not cover it under certain circumstances.

AC+ is very expense for iPhone X, but I'd be considering that too...

Meanwhile, Macs not so much.
Well they do have AppleCare+ for MacBooks and iMacs now. At least in some countries (USA and Japan only?) Also covers 2 incidents of accidental damage for a fee along with the standard extra warranty like on the regular AppleCare. Just started with the 2017 MacBook Pro release, I believe.

Anyway, having it can certainly give you peace of mind in case anything happens. I was recently side swiped by a car (while I was on my road bike) and surprisingly my series2 SBSS didn’t have a scratch on it, but it very easily could have like HeadphoneAddict. AC+ is definitely nice for peace of mind.

I bought my SBSS from John Lewis in the UK and they offer a 2 year warranty with it free of charge (they do 5 years on TVs). I still got AppleCare + as for £59 I have peace of mind for the type of thing that happened to @HeadphoneAddict

To me it is worth it - £59 +£49 to repair an accidentally damaged watch or another £650 for a new one.

Here's why AC+ is also good to have on your iPhone too - my maxed out iPhone 5s got caught in the rear power hatch of my brand new Turbo Forester the first weekend that I had the car. I think it cost me $49 for a new phone.
