For Macbooks I always get Applecare+. They are extremely expensive portable devices, and run a greater risk of something happening to it. As with my Apple Watch. I'm always swinging my wrist into something or banging it up against something, so it was a no brainer for me.

For my iMac, I opted out of the extra coverage. Since it's just sitting on my desk.

Many cards have dropped this benefit since last year. :(

That is correct. Specifically, American Express Blue Cash (mentioned above) has dropped that benefit. And it appears even if you have had the card for years, that benefit is not grandfathered.

IMO, Apple Care is still the better choice.

Definitely, and at the eleventh hour to squeeze as much out of it as possible.

But, that's not how it works; AppleCare and AppleCare + are dated from the date of purchase of the Mac/product. You'll never get 3 years and 59 days of coverage, you'll only ever get 3 years.

This is confusing though, I'll give you that. I worked at Apple as a genius for a number of years, we had a new store manager who, when he first started, thought the warranty tacked onto whatever time had elapsed, too.

This is not true. I get 2 year Care+ 2 years after purchasing Care+. I checked it on my Iphone. I had purchased it one month later...

I bought Applecare+. Mostly because I upgraded several components so the price ratio gets better the higher you spec the machine. Not sure I would have bought it for an entry level model but who knows?
