AppleCare every time, hands down. Unlike one poster said, Apple Genius' do most repairs on site. Average turn around time is 2 days. If you dont live close to an Apple Store, AppleCare will ship you a box over night pre paid postage for you to send your computer in, and then return it to you at no cost to you. This is still much faster than what the turn around time would be for Best Buy. Phone support is amazing. Talking to someone who uses Apple, has worked with Apple, and knows everything about the computers is well worth it. You can use it as much as you want, so whether you use it or not determines on what value you get out of it. Apple probably makes much more money on people who do not have AppleCare than people who do, so it is in no way a rip-off at all.

Just do a little research, like you are by posting in here, on everything that AppleCare does. Such as the free Tech Tool Deluxe you get to do some of your own cleaning on the computer from home. Genius bar appointments are always free. It is like free diagnostics on your car. They will tell you what is wrong, and they are very concerned with making sure you have a working computer in as little amount of time as possible.

I would say niether as extended warranties are generally a rip-off. You have up to one year after your purchase to get Apple Care so don't sweat it.

I don't agree, especially when it comes to laptops, which get knocked around a lot and can develop problems. I made use of Apple Care and saved myself an expensive repair. On certain appliances which rarely have faults they may be rip-off, but not necessarily as to computers.

This is simply false. Your entire post reads like someone who has an Apple tattoo. I am surprised you didn't claim they can cure cancer.

They do not do most repairs on site.

I've had a keyboard and a logic board replaced in my previous MBP. Both were done by a Genius. The keyboard took an hour while I waited. The logic board with about a 3-day turnaround.

And? How is that proof they do most repairs in store under 2 days?

No but they do quite a bit of them.

The post I quoted stated most were done in shop and under two days. This is untrue and the post I replied to is an example of "fanboyism". The guy's username even oozes with it. That is hardly the kind of person who gives objective info yet nobody says anything. If someone posted here with such ridiculous bias in favor of another brand people would be beside themselves protesting.

Wow. Did someone shoot your dog? :p

I'm going to be buying my first Mac in the next 5 days and have a question about extended warranties. should I go with Apple care or Best buys Geeksquad? I'm shopping at Best buy as you can tell..

Thanks in advance.

Best Buy has been good to me.

They replaced a panel in a LCD TV set (a $1000 model). The cool part was, the tech (not the brightest bulb on the Xmas tree), told a great story about the perks their higher-ups get that they won't allow regular customers. But then, since when is customer service about the customer? :D

Wow. I missed the part where I said Apple was perfect. While I admittedly do favor Apple, it by no means suggests that I am unable to be objective. Unfortunately, you may have a bad experience with something that is skewing your opinion. Let me try to state some info that is not opinion at all...

The fact is, is that Apple does in fact do the vast majority of repairs in the store. When I say 'on site' I do not mean at the time of the appointment. I literally mean on the site of the store. The length of time it takes to do a repair is dependent on whether the part is in stock, and how many computers that are already waiting to be repaired. Turn around time can be greatly improved through ProCare. Some repairs require parts to be ordered, which then makes the repair take longer than 2 days. Some repairs do require the computer to be sent in, but the majority of repairs do in fact happen in the store. Since AppleCare offers the ability to send the computer in yourself, you can save yourself a trip to the store by having the computer shipped right back to you.

Help me out if I'm screaming 'fanboy' here. Pretty sure I haven't included any opinion anywhere...

You quoted me as saying Apple does 'most' repairs in under 2 days. If you read more carefully, what I actually said was that the 'average turn around time is 2 days.' If what you said were true, that MOST repairs are under 2 days, then the average would be less than 2 days. The thing with averages is that some are faster, some are longer. I don't mean to insult your intelligence on what 'average' means, because I'm sure you are well aware. But please read more carefully before turning to bash someone else's posts by misquoting. I question again what your experience has been with your genius appointments, assuming you have gone through some of this stuff before...

Whoa, what Apple Store you go to? The Repair Depot Apple Store? All my repairs have had to be sent in. I have had my LogicBoard replaced and something else, 2 seperate occasions. I agree with you on the turn around being short, i don't know where you got the concrete numbers, but id say it would be safe to say the AVG. turn-around would be 3.5 days. My first trip, took it in on Wednesday, back on Saturday, next one was like a Monday, got it back on Thursday.

And the person who said something about you being a fan boy probably was going by your SN.
