Apple's CarPlay system for accessing iPhone apps on a vehicle's dashboard screen received three popular apps this week: ChatGPT, Google Meet, and Audiomack.

In addition, WhatsApp is beta testing a revamped CarPlay app that will improve upon the basic Siri-based functionality that was previously available.

Make sure you have the latest version of each app and they will automatically appear on CarPlay.

ChatGPT

Starting with iOS 26.4, CarPlay supports voice-based conversational apps. This means that chatbots can extend their iPhone apps to CarPlay for voice-based conversations, and OpenAI's ChatGPT is one of the first options available.

With the ChatGPT app on CarPlay, you can have voice conversations with ChatGPT while the app is open, and view the titles of your past conversations. For safety reasons, the app does not show the text or images within conversations.

Google Meet

Google Meet is now available on CarPlay as well, allowing you to join meetings with a single tap, view your upcoming schedule, and participate in audio calls. For safety reasons, you cannot view video calls on the CarPlay interface.

Audiomack

Audiomack expanded to CarPlay this week. The 11th-most downloaded app in the App Store's Music category in the U.S. lets you stream and download songs, with a focus on independent artists and especially the Afrobeats and hip-hop genres.

Audiomack's CarPlay app has Discover, Charts, Playlists, and My Library tabs, allowing you to listen to your existing songs and discover new ones.

Coming Soon: Revamped WhatsApp

A revamped WhatsApp app for CarPlay is currently in beta testing.

WhatsApp is already available on CarPlay, but the app has limited Siri-based functionality. The revamped app displays lists of recent chats and phone calls, and there is also a tab that displays a list of your favorite contacts.

When I tried to use ChatGPT on CarPlay in iOS 26.4, I got an error message: "your ChatGPT account does not support this function." Does this mean that ChatGPT only works in CarPlay if you have a paid subscription to ChatGPT? I already pay for Claude and Perplexity so not interested in giving my money to OpenAI

Its now getting to the put up with liquid glass and bite the bullet and upgrade to ios26. My carplay does not look like this on 18.7.7

Just wondering how many people have an afternoon Google Meet schedule similar to what is shown in the mockup graphic? Are there really people who are only in meetings from 12:30 to 4:30? How does that person actually contribute to society?
As you said, I think it's just a mockup graphic. However your comment about heavier meeting bookings within a certain block of the day does ring true for some people such as myself. I collaborate heavily with people in different time zones so their schedules are fuller in their afternoons and mine in the morning. Besides, for all we know there were other morning entries in said mockup that simply aren't displayed.

I think Claude, Gemini etc will have CarPlay soon, the WhatsApp app honestly is very welcome because the current feature are trash, when Siri tell you all the status updates of your contacts like messages...cannot read/set voice notes and many more things

Not sure if this is /s or not... But assuming not, it rather heavily depends on your job. I’m rarely in meetings and avoid them as much as I can, but I still have a packed day of doing IT stuff.

Did they ever get video playback working? 🤔 📺
Being that the entire UI is renedered on the iPhone and streamed to the display... there isn't a technical limitation here but a safety one.

The fact that Google does not have the core Google Workspace stack CarPlay ready is pretty frustrating actually. Google Meet is huge. Google Calendar is another glaring absence and Chat would be nice to have too. If they come out with a Gemini App with CarPlay support that can contextually access/interact with all of it, I'll take that too.

A Sports app widget would be very useful for CarPlay when you're stuck in traffic and can’t catch the game. Especially for World Cup 2026 soon.

There is a widget available. Just enable live activities for whatever event(s) you want and it appears on the main screen. There is a widget for the iPad as well.

If CarPlay was good with the car it’s on then great. But it’s so clunky essentially being an “app” for the car. They need to make more and better deals with car makers for it to come pre-integrated or else it will just continue to suffer.

Do they have a car play like minimalist screen for the iPhone itself? Like your 1st page changing to your top car apps when you tap drive.

I’ve Ben using Chatgpt and it’s VERY slow, but good. It will remain on while the car is running, Need to test this.

...and yet, still no weather app.

The calculator on iPad team must be working this one.

I use:
Weatherology for audio forecasts
and
MyRadar for radar images

Both localized to one's position.
Free of charge.
