You will get charged the full $10. Take the movies you want out the bundle and divide by $10 to get your per title cost. The rest of the movies will be a bonus

If there were two or more movies in each bundle that you really wanted to "own" then it's a pretty good deal.

However, what do you want to bet that all of the movies in this bundle are already either on Netflix or Hulu or Amazon Prime or that they soon will be?

What I mean is that the movie studios probably already know that these titles will be available fairly soon everywhere on subscription streaming services so this is largely an attempt to get some extra revenue before they loose much of their appeal as individual purchases.

These bundles feel exactly like cable company bundles..

Went through all the bundles and couldn't find any with more than 2 in each I'd buy/own/watch if you held a gun to my head, and I already own those.

Oh well.

I agree with a previous poster who said a "Build-your-own" bundle option would have been nice during this 24hr promotion.

It's funny isn't it.
Despite years of buying films on BETA and VHS, a few LazerDiscs, then a resonable collection of DVD's and a couple of BluRays.
After all this time I've come to realize, it's mostly been a waste of time as re-watching the same film multiple times is something I THOUGHT I would do, rather than actually do.

I like the IDEA of being able to watch my movies again and again, but reality did not match what I thought, and I stil have things I bought, sealed in plastic.

Having Amazon Prime and Netflix, AND whatever I can find on terrestrial TV or the internet in general, the concept of paying money to own a single title now feels crazy to me.
<snip>
Stream what you want, when you want, that seems to be the obvious thing.

I agree with this.

My moment realizing this was many years ago driving on the highway and seeing a billboard from Blockbuster Video (remember them?!). It said "How many times are you really going to watch that movie you bought anyway?"

I rarely bought DVDs after that hit home.

And I should listen to my own advice. I have the complete Breaking Bad box set in my basement...still unwatched after a couple of years.

Except stuff comes in and out of streaming all the time, and there's no guarantee that these companies will always license to Netflix. I'm Canadian and I know better than to trust Netflix for that, and some of the other options aren't even available here. On the other hand, if you purchase and download a movie, it's yours. I find that there is some stuff that I rewatch, so I like owning it - though I do need to go through my movie collection to get rid of some of the stuff that I never watch.

I think also, my view now is there is so much new stuff.
Be it movies, TV shows, Catch up TV, not to mention 1000's of YouTube channels all pumping out fresh stuff constantly.
The thought of re-watching the same thing multiple times does not appeal nowadays.

In the past, esp pre internet, yes 100% for sure. Nothing on TV tonight, put a Video on.
But that's not the world we live in now.

Plus I will admit, a lot of thing is the quality of modern films. Most of which are very much, well, I'll sit thru it once, but I've seen it. I know the story and all that is going to happen, the story is pretty poor anyway (special effects) so if it's another 5 years till I see it again no worries :)

I can however see, there still being a feeling of wanting to OWN, shall we call them some classics?

Back to the future
Matrix
Alien
Jaws
Star Wars
Batteries not Included
ET

That kinda stuff, as they really are (mostly) 1 off things that only come along once in a while.

I will admit also, I've not seen any films like that for many years, where are the BIG GUNS nowadays?

Yep. The US even gets this huge FREE concert from Apple every year! Oh wait, that's in London...

Well... at least we get that "Lucky Bag" thing here around the new year... What? Nope, I forgot, that's in Japan.
An interesting way to look at it would be, the vast majority of the movies on offer in this deal, are quite clearly products of the US, and their primary audience is here, so it makes sense that this deal is in the US. (I'm not saying I ascribe to that as the way things should be.) And I'd venture a guess that if Apple could get simple licensing from all the companies involved to sell these for the reduced price worldwide, they would, but that is, as always, in the hands of the content providers.

A fool's "buy" offer.
If Amazon were to offer 10 Blurays for $10, I'd go for it, but the concept of digital ownership is a fallacy.
iTunes Movie "ownership" effectively is a "lifetime" option to rent.

Unlike physical media, I cannot:
1) play it in any standard DVD/Bluray player by any manufacturer (only stream to Apple devices).
2) resell it
3) leave it to someone in my will
4) enjoy premium audio & picture quality (40GB Bluray vs 4GB iTunes, no DTS)
5) lend it to a friend or family member

Having said that, if you're a new movie collector and haven't already bought all these movies previously on various formats, then it IS a great starter offer, especially for iDevices watchers. Shame it's US only, as usual.

That's pretty funny, Only offering a discount in the US because Hollywood mainly produces for US audiences, really? :)
So, Brits only watch British movies, Germans only watch German movies, Italians, French and so on. Many US produced movies garner more income abroad than locally, but single-market size, over-saturation and the streaming subscription competition probably has something to do with it also.

No, not really. That bit was offered humorously, to help "justify" why the movie deal was US only, after the OP had pointed out that England got concerts and Japan got Lucky Bags. As I said immediately after that, it's much more likely that it's limited because it's considerably less work to negotiate US-only rights with the (primarily US-based) companies holding the reigns on these movies, for such a heavily-discounted deal, than it is to negotiate similar, but worldwide, rights. It also may be affected by rather byzantine contracts found in the movie industry.

And it likely isn't Apple pouring millions into buying full-priced copies of these movies to then dole out to customers, more likely Apple working a deal with the media companies saying, "put this up for this very limited-time offer, and it'll get more people in the habit of purchasing streamable movies rather than just renting them as part of an existing all-you-can-eat plan from the likes of Netflix & Amazon".

Hmm... 11:30 PM Eastern, 8:30 Pacific, and I cannot buy. "Item being modified." (On Mac and iOS both.) I guess the cutoff must have been 8PM Pacific? Yet the store still shows the bundles and prices, they haven't taken them down yet. Even promoted on the main Movies home page. Odd.

EDIT: As of midnight Eastern, they're no longer promoted on the main page, and the Twitter link goes to the bundle page now showing $34.99 instead of the $9.99 price.

So it looks like the sale went through 9PM Pacific, but was nonfunctional for the final 45 minutes or so before 9. (Tweets about the problem started popping up around then.)

But I emailed customer service and anticipate them resolving it in the end.

getting same exact message. Thought it was strange the first time tried again got same thing. then logged out of store closed itunes, reopend, signed back in and checked for downloads.

Nothing-
I will dispute any charges if they charged but I dont get the content.

Obvious: you guys get every device launched there FIRST! Apple graces you with the ability to snag an iPhone/iPad before the rest of the world on launch day ;-)

I'm not going to exhaustively list every little promotion around the world. I was simply stating that they do "spread the love" a bit more than people around here give them credit for...

You mean apple graces us with favourable time zones? Haha thats all Apple right there.
Having the iPhone 10 hours earlier doesn't add value to the product, as the iphone cycle will end 10 hours earlier too

just went to the apple community forums. I clicked the "i have this question too" button and then realized I wasnt signed in. Once I got it I was told "We are busy updating Apple Support communities for you and we will be back shortly"...

I think this promo may have broken something and they are trying to either fix it or make it go away...

Huh. Had the page in iTunes open from earlier. None of the bundles completely grabbed me (if I could have taken 1 or 2 movies from each bundles, sure; that's the way these things go), but I figured I take a second look. But, at a bit after 9pm in Apple's own home timezone, apparently the 24 hours are up - oops. Well, one of these might have appealed to me for $10, but not for $35.
