Seems like gone are the days when CEO'S of Apple used to focus on technology!

To be fair, he's going to have to commit to things like this if he wants Apple to remain an excellent choice for schools hospitals, etc. Not everyone everywhere can use a computer like you and me, and Assistive Technology is just plain good for humanity.

Besides, it is an aspect of TECH that Apple has led the way in for some time. It's available the minute you turn on your Mac. I've never tried to use Microsoft AT features, so I don't know which is easier.

I have my fingers crossed for Tim making the devices ACCESSIBLE to the people shortly, both in producing them and in pricing them accordingly.

i find it shocking people complain apple is making its devices and technology more accessible for everyone. i assume half the people complaining are just the knee jerk-complain about everything posters. the other half just jerks.

apple can focus on products, technology, accessibility (and omg...some of those all fit together) at the same time. yes i've been waiting far too long for an iMac, but it isn't their focus on accessibility that's keeping me from an updated iMac. you think some engineer working on accessibility features is just going to be able to jump departments and get an iMac out the door? different people, different specialties, different areas...

just celebrate a day in age technology is more and more capable and trending toward being in the hands of everyone.

You do know Apple can focus on multiple facets at once? I'm assuming you didn't take that into consideration.

Also, Because Cook celebrates Global Awareness Day, this takes away the focus from technology?

I take it you didn't read the article and you just posted a comment for the sake of jabbing at the CEO for what relevance?

i swear there is a day for everything now...
I'm blind excuse me for having 1 article a year written on accessibility. The IPhone means way more to me than to you it's a light detector, money reader, scanner for my mail, identifier of objects like can goods, reader, radio, and a whole bunch of other things. Apple was the first to make the same out of box experience for someone blind as yourself by not making them pay extra for a product. Things will return back to normal for yourself now I'm sure there will be a bunch more new posts about the same old things.

I know someone with Motor Neurone Disease. He can only speak, blink and move his head a little. I've been helping him with Accessibility software on Windows 10. Eye movement device + software and Microsoft's own "voice command" system, which is largely useless. Does anyone here have experience in this area with Macs?

What a great job Tim has! Bet he still wakes up everyday and thanks Steve because lets face it if it weren't for Steve, Tim wouldn't be CEO. I truly worry about Apple and the direction they are going.

If you're not trolling, which I don't think you are, please read Tim's professional bio. He's a pretty impressive professional hand picked by Jobs for a reason.

Apple CEO Tim Cook very publicly hugged a blind man.

You don't feel so self-righteously indignant now, do you.

You probably meant well, but the way it was written makes it seem like Stevie has rabies not blindness...LOL

Do any of you guys complaining actually work for living? Some of you guys seem to be very narrow minded and not realize the size and scope of some companies. When these articles come up, so many pitchforks are ready saying Apple has lost its way or Tim is about politics and what not. I've been disappointed with the product pipeline recently myself but there is a lot more to the day-to-day than hunching over a computer working on a product.

If you have a problem with this, just wait till you (or your parents or grandparents, et.al.) get older and end up with a vision (or other) impairment. You might then find yourself really appreciating that Apple is one of the companies spending significant resources solving accessibility problems.
Actually my father in law was trying to use Siri on his phone to call us when my mother-in-law had to go to the hospital recently. He is visually impaired and has difficulty dialing the numbers. He had been taught how to call using Siri but could not get Siri to work properly. He seems only able to do it when we are around to coach him. So we bought him an Amazon Echo and set it up to make calls to emergency contacts, including ourselves. So far he's been able to use Alexa, though we did fix it to respond to being called "Echo" because Alexa was too much of a mouthful for our elders.

So I do hope Apple steps it up where Siri is concerned and also continues to promote what people with disabilities can do with Apple products not just on one designated day but regularly, because it's not readily apparent what features and capabilities are hidden in our devices and how they can help us.

Stevie loves the touch bar. It's a bit like playing russian roulette to him... is it going to be escape, F1 or F2? Or maybe the color picker instead? Who knows, wooohoo!

Give it a rest. Accessibility is one area Apple needs to stay nimble.

Yeah, year round. Making a public appearance at a benefit does nothing to help Apple's accessibility functionality. Rather than be a SJW, Timmy should dev tech in this area.

This is to draw awareness. Timmy is the one who should actually be doing something because of all the awareness. Nothing says accessible like the emojiBar mac, right?

And in most cases, sadly, it comes from people who are only able to feel good about themselves, having a tiny blip of power, when they can rag on and trash others.
