Yet every time I try to find a classic song from yesteryear it's not in the store or has been removed, are you sure it's 100 million? More like 99 million mindless drivel songs. o_O
Drivel makes money somehow 🤷‍♂️ it's subjective always, but the excretions of most record labels are shameful. As I've said in prior threads, I'm not one of those "my generation has better music" people, I've found that most music played in dining and retail settings affects my mood negatively. Uplifting music is hard to come by when you're not in control of playback, sporting events trying to get you into gambling, alcoholism, trash music... not to rant when I'm likely in the minority.

How many songs had they sold on iTunes before they unceremoniously stopped it and replaced it with that junk Apple Music?

Apple Music is crap software and did not and has not replaced the superior product called iTunes, that was a great digital asset manager. Apple does not want you to own your own music and video’s - go figure. And what ever happened to the product that was to manage and operate the home theater/entertainment systems called front row that integrated into iTunes?

Apple - Give us back our iTunes!!!

I’m definitely a minority among forum posters, but I have always loved Apple’s attitude towards music and the way that has influenced the Apple Music experience. Spotify is great if you want computer-generated playlists and like to just shuffle popular songs, but if you have a large music collection already (and listen in a sort of old-school way) Apple Music’s album-oriented approach is great. I’ve had both services and appreciate how both are different, and I don’t want Apple Music to be more like Spotify besides maybe something similar to the Daily Mix.
I am going to disagree here.

I have both Apple Music and Spotify and Spotify wins hands down.

To me Apple Music is the one delivering the rote computer generated lists… My music tastes are very wide ranging — and I doubt it is what you would describe as "popular" — at all… Spotify seems to have learnt what I like. Apple on the other hand after all these years still tries to force me down the road of listening to stuff *cough* I won't mention what that genre is * cough*

And when it comes to apps, Spotify wins by a mile.

I use Apple Music only for my collection of privately ripped music.

But, each to their own I guess.

I’m gonna disagree with you here. I find Spotify’s app to be cluttered with all of the podcast content. Apple’s interface is strictly for music.

It’s also easier to manage a library on Apple Music. I ditched Spotify after I saw that when you added an album to your library, the songs from the album didn’t show up under the Songs tab and the artist it was by didn’t show up under the Artists tab — you had to manually save music by Song, Artist, and Album.

And that's Apple's fault how? Apple supplies what the people want. If they want to buy crap, that's what they will find on any service.

As I've said it makes absolutely what Apple says or does. You people destroy your credibility by bashing any and everything related to Apple. I no longer put any credence in anything you haters say. It's simply BS to be ignored. And my ignore list grows significantly every day.
The vast quantity of songs only makes it harder to find something you like. Even if you liked one million songs, that's only 1 percent of the catalog. To me, that makes it a time consuming task to find music I like. It's easier to just stick with what I have. To that end, it would be nice if Apple brought back the Shuffle feature in List view where you could actually see the shuffled order of your songs.

Corporate announcements like this don't serve Apple well, like when they talk about the App Store having XXXX number of apps, it's meaningless if the apps are scammy trash. Is 100m songs better than 50m - why?
I suspect the thinking goes something like this: with a large number of songs ( in this case 100M) most people well have a large chance of finding enugh songs they like to be wiling to subscribe thus fueling apples proffits.

Why continue to put up with that? Simply subscribe to a competitor service and find happiness.
Because only AM has the ability to match the songs/albums in my personal digital music library and make them available to me in the cloud. Why hasn't Spotify added that feature?

While the majority of my listening is playlists from online songs, it's nice to be able to browse my extensive personal library and play my own stuff.

Just to clarify, those 2 things were not digs at Spotify but actually what I think they do well. Computer-generated is not a bad thing and Spotify definitely has an edge on everybody else with that. By popular I meant for a specific artist, I haven’t used the Spotify app in a while but I remember it emphasizing an artist’s most popular songs vs Apple Music’s “Essential Album(s)” feature which I just prefer. Spotify also learned my tastes and I thought it was really cool how they gave me 4 Daily Mixes across a range of genres I like, but I always felt like it was more playlist-oriented while I prefer to listen to albums and have my own organized collection. Totally a preference thing but I know a lot of Apple Music users who prefer it for the same reasons.

Yeah...we all have to make choices in life.

still no proper modern way to listen on Windows. A buggy web player that constantly logs me out and ancient software (iTunes) is not acceptable. Until such time Apple make an Apple Music app for Windows then i'll stick to other services.

if Apple want to be taken seriously and grow their subscribers they need to make a proper app for people to use.

If ONLY Apple Music app would allow to select/mark favourite songs and add them automatically to a “favourites playlist” that would make consider switching from Spotify. That’s the deal breaker for me. So many years and can’t have that “simple” concept yet…
Spotify is in a little mid term trouble because they keep loosing so many songs every month and the audio quality is not-bad, but not-so-good…

...and bug fixes for those of us that still prefer to buy rather than rent our music. Syncing is still a mess.

Same on Apple TV app. It got very slightly better with the latest OS releases, but they still treat shows and movies you buy from them as inferior to streaming services. Without fail, when finishing an episode of a show I purchased, it suggests the next episode from a streaming service. Whether I have that service or not.

My experience with Spotify was the opposite. I also have wide-ranging taste in music and Spotify never figured me out over about 5 years of using it. Apple Music has done much better for me. That's just my experience though and I'll admit I haven't used Spotify in a few years so maybe they've improved their algorithms. At this point I have strong disincentive to switch back.

What an odd press release. That's like YouTube announcing that X videos have now been uploaded to YouTube. Why should we care? What Eddy Cue and the Music team need to focus on is rewriting the entire backend of Apple Music. They are getting spanked by Spotify in app performance. Everything is instant in Spotify. Loading playlists, searching, playing a song. A small delay comes with every action you take in Apple Music.
It would to some folks. I know people were gushing when Apple surpassed the $1 trillion mark. If nothing else, it does fall under the usual "metrics". It also helps solidify their position of sticking around (those who got into tech in 00s, and beyond probably have a few companies they wish were still around :( ). Other than that, the other comments are also spot on (no pun intended I suppose). There are the myriad other factors to consider.

Apple Music has 100.000.000 songs of which 0.002 % are classical music. (I might overestimate, though.)

While the Apple Classic App may fix the completely useless user interface, the selection of classical is simply very narrow and poor. A lot of "best of" albums instead of decent performances of great works.

Sad, but I find more and better classical music performances in YouTube than Apple Music.
