these mutex panics plagued me for almost a year in HS, and they fixed it in the last high sierra update :)

since you have wiped stuff already, try installing high sierra and update everything to latest patches. on the bonus side u can even install nvidia webdriver (faster than native driver).

try it!

Of course they did. I am merely suspecting the OS because if it were the GPU, it would be a very funny coincidence that my MBP started acting up right after upgrading to Mojave, OR this OS is less tolerant of GPUs that are showing some kind of wear or are gradually failing from their factory defect.

It's your GPU. I had the same issues when I owned my original ''15 rMBP back in '12 and '13 - and that was on Lion (10.7.5) and Mountain Lion (10.8.x). The crashes were so bad Apple replaced the machine with a Late 2013, which also was replaced for the same issues with the Nvidia 650/750M GT...

Why not definitively prove that 10.14 is the issue here? install an older OS on an external, run off that, and see if the issues persist.

Yeah, 2010s + had GPU crashes; I won a 2010 15" MBP, that has GPU crashes, but Apple only recalled the 2011 models (i think)

There was an extended service program on the 2010 15" models as well. It's been expired for a long time now.
