Now if only they would just fit.

They fit plenty of people just fine. Actually, many people report them fitting better than EarPods. Unfortunately, you fell in the niche of people with different enough ears than the average human. It sucks but AirPods weren't made for you. You'l have to buy another type.

I have the AirPods. I like them. Definitely don't love them. I have a feeling as people start traveling on planes with them love affairs will stifle.

What's the difference with using them on an airplane as opposed to anywhere else people have been using them? Serious question

An average of 30db vs 100db of background noise. I love them in an office\home environment. I could even see using them on a bike or walking around in a public area. But an airplane is the absolute LAST place I want to hear what's around me: crying babies, crying adults, engine noise, unimportant announcements, seat-mate small talk. Putting on headphones and closing my eyes is an escape from a generally miserable experience, be it first class or coach. It doesn't take much seal to eliminate most noise on a plane. Noise cancelling will remove it all, noise isolating will remove a large portion (good enough for me), but Airpods will eliminate NONE.

Gotcha! That makes sense. Noise cancelling is definitely a must on a plane, especially if you are sitting near the engines or in the back. Thanks

For me noise isolation has always been good enough. The big elephant (bose) doesn't make a product I really LOVE. The sound on the QC30\35 is fantastic, but the issue I have is the case is huge, and when in a lay flat bed on a trans pacific flight I can't lay on my side to sleep with them on. I tried the QC noise cancelling earbuds, and they just hurt no matter which tips I used, after about an hour. The $30 Sennheiser earbuds I have (C300 I think) have been amazing for about 4 years now, never had to replace them, and the larger of the 3 silicon tips that come with them form a perfect seal in my ear, thus producing amazing bass, medium noise reduction from the outside, and no pain when wearing them on a 12-14 hour flight. I love bass, and without the seal it's hard to get. I love my airpods for home listening and even using just one in the car as a bluetooth headset... they're ideal for almost any scenario except airplanes.

The earbuds I reference (sennheiser) are a lot like Beats earbuds (tho I'll say the quality of sennheiser is better), so the salvation I may have coming is in February when the beats x come out with the w1 chip.

I attached pictures of the 4 I referenced in this reply in order

Finally, humans didn't evolve over millions of years without exposure to radio. Our sun, other stars, heck our galaxy itself are all big sources of radio energy that hit earth all the time. Its how radio telescopes work. So really, we have millennia of exposure to radio sources to show us that it doesn't do anything.

it's hasn't been the extent that it is now with WiFi and cell phone signals everywhere, sometimes close to a person.

These people like Cook live in such a bubble they've created for themselves that they honestly refuse to even consider that anything they do might be wrong or a poor choice. They can't accept even the most subtle criticism. There's a word for behaviour like that and it's called arrogance.

Why aren't we discussing the crappy battery life with iOS 10.2? Like the fact when I use my DJI Go app, it goes from 85% to 11% and dead in about 5 min. Not even an exaggeration.

Do that in appropriate thread.

Because this thread is about the airpods, please remain on topic in this thread.

Just my two cents:
I'm travelling in the U.K. and I had a chance to try the AirPods in an Apple Store (they don't have it for sale, but they do have one model for you to try it yourself).
Important fact #1: The EarPods never, ever, stay in my ears. The AirPods, however, not only stayed in my ears, but they also remained in place no matter how much I moved my head replicating gym movements and "dancing" to the beats of the music (yes, people probably thought I was a weirdo... ). I don't know what kind of magic they've done, or if the cable torque was solely responsible for the EarPods falling from my ears all the time, but I can affirm they've improved it unbelievably so.
Important fact #2: I own B&Ws and love they sound signature - I am what I'd call an amateur audiophile. Still, the quality of the sound coming from the AirPods increased substantially from the EarPods. It's still not audiophile by a long shot. But for the first time I considered using Apple earphones due to the practicing and ease of use - listening to audiobooks at work and immediately pausing it when somebody talks to me and I take it off one of my ears is brilliant in real world usage.

Watch bands and silly headphones

Jony Ive sure is working his 'magic'

Why are they silly? Compare to other wireless headphones these really works.
I have tried other brands that promise much but can't live up to it in real life.

They have the same shape and form so i think its the cable thats the big different that makes them stay in.

What this tells me is that it's an industrial design FAIL from Apple that was supposed to be accessible and compatible for all. All their products, everyone could use them from the iphone, to ipad to their mac lineup with accessibility in mind.

And yet, the AirPods are the only product that are designed as a 'one size fits all' approach which reeks of laziness. Why didn't they design the AirPods to have some kind of soft silicone so that it'll mold into a fit for that user's unique inner ear shape?

I wear a hearing aid with an earmold specifically designed for my ear and everyone's ears are different, not the same as Apple would think it is. It's that sense of homogenous design that doesn't work. Ears tend to change shape slowly over the years as we age. To have Apple make these kind of 'one size fits all' design for in the ear headphones is just plain ridiculous.

Why could'nt the make two different sizes of AirPods? Why not a hearing-aid compatible AirPod that is designed like a hook behind the ear that sits next to the hearing aid in telecoil mode? I have, for about 10 years, a corded headset that is a hook shaped device from HATIS ( the company folded, I believe ) and it's used in telecoil mode for conversation purposes to block out the background noise.

This is what it looks like:

Also, I don't like the idea of having bluetooth hearing aids controlled by the iphone because they're expensive and the flaw lies in if one loses the phone, it's a problem.

By saying that this guy's ears don't fit well with the AirPods, it translates to one thing: a return and lost sales.

This is why Apple has this 'valley girl' mentality when it comes to product design.
