This older, but relevant, comparison done in the word choice in presentations between Jobs and Cook is enlightening: https://www.techinasia.com/apple-language

Changes since Jobs:
1. Apple’s language is getting less functional and more emotional.
2. Apple is increasingly emphasizing the word new.
3. Subconsciously reminding us of the glory days?

Interesting article. Worth a read. Showing us why some of us long time Apple people are getting annoyed increasingly.

The problem with this comparison is that Jobs did product demonstrations, while Cook generally does not. Of course, the words used by Jobs are going to be more product focused.

I've been a huge Apple fan (and purchases of too many products to remember) for over 20 years, but I am completely fed up with the way Apple has designed, sold and handled their product launches the last couple of years and want to see some change. The culture of a company comes right from the top, and that's where I want to see some changes in 2017.

I want Apple to read MR and realize that there is a large group of consumers who are not happy, and are ready to jump ship to Dell, Microsoft, etc. That's the only way, in my opinion, this company will change. They seem to be eating their own dog food right now, so to speak.

I was ready to buy a 15" mbp before this new release. My late 2011 15" mbp cost me £1500. Now Apple want £2700 for a 15" mbp with a 512Gig HD! Dumb.
I am a professional user. I record, mix, arrange and produce bands and also my own music. (They also removed the digital out that was inside the audio jack btw!). I also take photo's and create video's.

Apple is ridiculous with their new pricing.
Ridiculous.
Many pro users that I know of have had enough too. We are buying old stock mbp's or jumping ship to Windows.
I dread to imagine what the iMac "update" will be like.

Apple CEO Tim Cook toured the New York Stock Exchange with his nephew this morning, where he took a few moments to do a quick interview with CNBC.

Cook said he couldn't comment on business when asked, but he told the interviewer that Apple has had a "great" holiday season. "It's been a great holiday," he said.

When questioned about Apple's recently released AirPods and the lack of available stock, Cook called the AirPods a "runaway success." "We're making them just as fast as we can," he said.

Introduced in mid-December, the first AirPods began shipping out to customers during the week of December 19th, the first day retail stores began carrying the accessory.

AirPods have proven to be popular with Apple users, and supplies have been constrained since launch. Retail stores and third-party retailers are receiving regular shipments, but many customers have not yet been able to purchase AirPods. Online orders placed today won't ship out for six weeks.

Reviews of AirPods have been largely positive, with customers praising the sound quality, battery life, ease of connectivity, and better than expected Bluetooth range, but some users have been having battery trouble with their Charging Case.

I would like to see how many Macbook Pros are they selling these days....

AirPods are pure Apple. Tons of tech stuffed into a tiny beautifully crafted enclosure, hiding all the complexity involved and just doing what they're supposed to do, surprising you with subtle things like pausing music when one is removed or seamlessly taking over your iPhone's speakers when you put them in. They just work.

Now if only they would just fit.

It is save to say that your brains are not at risk :)

How many of you have already lost on of these AirPods over the fast few weeks? Technical they might be a marvel, but how easy is it to losse one of these in a bus, train or airplane when you are in a hurry?

I am a highly intelligent individual

I understand where you're coming from but I think the comparison is still valid. It's a small measuring stick of where the core competency of the two lies. Jobs did more product because he understood it, was comfortable with it, and probably had his fingerprint on every part of it. Cook delegates and sticks to banality because he's not an engineer on any level, probably doesn't fully get it, and he doesn't have a fingerprint on any of it. That may be one reason why Jony gets dragged out into those silly videos every time to explain the obvious or ridiculous.

Still loving mine for sure

Me too. I agree with comments that the AirPods are the best product in years. No problems of pairing, staying put or battery for me. I absolutely adore them.

Hopefully they will introduce more features with software updates for more touch / tap controls other than the double tap...Does anyone know if this is possible?

Whatever success they are, it is a fraction of the success they would have been had they been fully available in the US at the start of December so they could be included for Christmas.

More PR spin -- hey it's all FANTASTIC over here!! look this way!
I remember this disconnect between product and cheerleading during the Sculley days... and the fanboys cheering even louder as the product lineup got weaker... then the stock went to crap and suddenly the fanboys turned (of course they instantly switch their tune and knew the products were going downhill all along)... you see Apple's history repeating itself (with some variations) and many blind to the subtle downward trend in Apple's hardware and software product development.

What an ostentatious statement without evidence supporting your claim. It appears your stated hate for Cook has clouded your actual judgement based on your illegitimate findings, which isn't showing much.

And please elaborate on what products "Cook" introduced that was solely based on him.
Evidence? Just listen to any of his interviews, stage speeches or anything he posts online. Everything is always great, perfect, best, revolutionary etc. He'd never admit that anything is wrong. Listening to him makes no more sense because he is so heavily biased.

Products Apple is releasing are his responsibility. He as a CEO decides the direction the company is taking. With Jobs it was product first, With Cook it is profit first. This can work for a short-term, but will ultimately piss too many loyal customers and sooner or later somebody starts to build much better products and there will be no reason to go back.

Competition is going speeding up while Apple is slowing down.

That's quite a statement coming from someone with an avatar like yours. Tim Cook has lead Apple to unprecedented levels of growth and profitability, while taking a stand for environmental responsibility and civil rights. What have you accomplished lately?
What does my avatar have to do with anything? What does Apple's profit have to do with Tim Cooking being a PR whore? Yes, he maximized profits, but on cost of what?

I don't honestly know what they could add to a phone at this point aside from long distance wireless charging that would make it non boring. What should they add?

The iPhone has a pretty bad display to phone size ratio. It's huge for the size of the display. That's the main thing really, for me anyway.

At the cost of his competitors' profit.

Cook is ruthless.

No, those are the questions you want answered. The iPhone market is 10 times larger than that of the Mac. Heck, even iPads were sold twice as much as Macs this year. AirPods serve all of Apple's customers from iPhone to AppleWatch to even Mac users and they're able to be used by Android and PC users too. There's a lot of interest in them, so those are the questions that the majority of people want answered.

As much as I love the Mac for nostalgia, its prominence is waning with fewer people needing full computers and most opting for just a smartphone and/or a tablet. Yes, I may have some of those questions you pose, but I know where the majority of people's interest lies and it's not in the Mac.

here we go, I am sorry to say but you are so wrong !

Mac Rumors IS NOT iPhone rumors.

just because mercedes, ferrari, tesla and all the other manufacturer sell 1/10 of FORD it doesn't mean people are not interested in luxury vehicles and manufacturers can screw up.

it's actually the other way around. The press doesn't talk about the toyota corolla much but talk about bugatti, tesla, lamborghini, mercedes, BMW etc. 24/7

also the majority of people with a phone also own computers for work and/or home, they may not replace them as much but they do

Luxury brands like Mercedes more than make up for fewer units than Ford, by having a comparable revenue, thus they stay very relevant and not niche.

Macs are much smaller than the iPhone either in units or in revenue.

I love the Mac. That’s just not a valid comparison.

Tim doesn't have a finger print on products. However, he has to buy all the parts and set up all the manufacturing processes for the parts to be made so that the highly custom hardware hardware and software Apple produces can be made and shipped out to customers in record time but Tim knows nothing of the engineering.... Do you hear how stupid that sounds?

Steve Jobs was the face of Apple but its likely that Tim Cook was the brains of the operation. Tim probably knows more about what goes into making Apple products than Steve Jobs ever did...because he has to in order to do his job effectively.

People believe the sales guy knew more about the engineering in the product than the guy to was tasked with actually getting all the parts and putting them altogether to form a cohesive product. Steve Jobs picked Tim Cook for a reason. Steve Jobs knew that Tim could handle the job of CEO of Apple better than anyone else currently working at Apple.

iPhone sales are in the billions let's say there's 10,000 people on MR that complain and are unhappy - I can most certainly guarantee that they do not care what anyone on this site says lol MR is not a "large group of consumers" at the end of the day companies run for profit despite what Tim claimed, as long as that stock price keeps rising the people at the top will be happy and apparently everyone else will be happy with the products hence the rise in stock price.

AGAIN!!!!! Please read what you just wrote, it's non sense !!!!

Apple sells over 20 BILLION per year of the Mac line
and this with today's disgusting and outdate line !

Mac buyers are content creators and programmers that keep the iPhone and iPad alive !!!!

I will never understand a product that only works (fits) in about 50% of the consumer base's ears. lol. It's so bizarre to me.

Have you ever auditioned a $2k pair of headphones? I have.... These are not anywhere near the same class. Nice try.

I wasn't trying to make a comparison. The OP was complaining about headphones costing $170, so I was simply pointing out that there are headphones that cost 20-50x what AirPods cost.
