That’s just half the truth. He was reluctant to upgrade the instruction interface.
But the speech synthesis itself could have been 25 times better - it is nowhere near to anything that has a learning curve. And Apple has more tech that was never successfully offered - the only connection between Tim and Steven was that there was no connection

The debate over Steven's tech interface upgrade, preference or support factor is warranted without one sharing the opinion that TC is an egocentric, opportunist putz! That IMHO goes without saying. That does not mean he's not worthy of his position.... just wish he had his priorities in better order.
As for his homage/eulogy to SH I think he's being sincere. We all can agree that a great mind is no longer with us.

He liked how the voice sounded. He asked his people to preserve what it sounds like. I've read that on multiple occasions from those close to him or working on it. You think Apple should have what? tried to persuade him that their voice synths are better? Well duh.. The voice synth on the Newton and iOS 8 etc sounds "better" than his. He didn't want that though.

Agree with respect to SH.
Tim being worthy of his position is a different debate.
A considered provisioning genius unable to ship a wireless charger while Ikea (and other’s) shelves are full of them, certainly won’t help.

You're so grossly uninformed - it is embarassing
Hawking originally used an Apple II but got it replaced it for an MIT speech synthesis device that offered him an 80's Amiga voice until his death.
Tim could have easily served him with all the better Apple tech available - but he didn't.
Says enough about his compassion with the disabled and proximity to Great Minds
It’s not about being uninformed or informed - I’m not embarrassed but you should be with your posts - it’s about having a little humanity of which some seem to lack around here.

And where pray tell, were the great heaps of technology and largess prior to 10/5/2011.

Apployalists base their opinions on information they want to hear, selectively.
That does not really help in a discussion.
Humanity (or do you mean generosity?) is another chapter that doesn’t have anything to do with being sharp vs. quibble.

Millions of people paid their respects honoring Dr. Hawking yesterday via tweets and Facebook posts, Mr. Cook being just another one of those millions.

It's a real shame that the angry small with hearts full of hate, are not able to let that be, and instead use that day as an opportunity to trash another human being.

If you confuse some detected opportunism with hate, you’ll be having a hard time.

His voice sounds like an alien voice with some kind of outer space authority. That was probably what he liked. :)

Which of course isn't what he was. He was a theoretical physicist and a cosmologist, a good one of our time. But his 'truths' will not last forever. Someone smarter will come, be sure of it.

Jason Becker is the other person I know of who has beaten the doctors prognosis by decades.
But both Jason and Stephen were relatively well known so there could be many others out there who slip under the radar.
Both Stephen and Jason had/have incredible support from friends and family, I'd guess that would make a big difference in longevity, that and both were/are really driven and at the top of their game, mentality.

Thank you for the link. Very informative. :apple:
