You allowed Tim Cook‘s speech to draw this kind of resentment in your post? I would never allow a company [Or person] to have that kind of power over my life where it makes me angry as you are. Also, did you pay attention to the quarterly earnings? (Rhetorical) I’d say Tim Cook is soaring Apple to unprecedented heights during the worst economic recession, all while including Apples contributions to the pandemic have been helpful under Cook.

Oh, and Cook isn’t going anywhere, and maybe that’s what upsets you so much, because you actually know his core leadership is successful year after year , you just don’t want to acknowledge him due to your own frustrations. I’m sorry you feel the way you do by choice, It’s Just not a way to live if you’re that disgruntled with Apple or Cook. We all have choices, maybe yours should be looking elsewhere other than Apple.

for someone who claims no company has “power over his life” you sure spend a lot of it on blogs covering a specific company and are quite capable and willing to list all the achievements made by a CEO of said company in quite an elevated, preachy manner...

I believe it’s called hypocrisy and fake virtue signaling 😉

Timmy C looking athletic there. Big guns, matching watch and strap.

Surprised he's only rockin' a 13" MBP!

With all the time working at/from home ... and in this dire times we're all facing ... Tim realizes the critical importance of Health! I'll bet he's working out heavily at home. His busy schedule and travel schedule doesn't leave much time for workouts - you can see this over the months the last few years where his physical shape slightly changes better/slack but you can see he still tries.

I'll BET 2 things ...

1. that's a 14" MBP he's using or he knows one is about to be released ;)
2. HealthKit + AppleWatch + Apple Health goals and awards will be ramped up HUGE when back to work kicks in for many nations (first starting with the USA).

the keys look scissor mechanism raised but not inverted t arrow keys. Weird.

Good eye! I just noticed that and double checked my 13" MBP ... where are the inverted T's or is it the focus blur obscuring this?

Agreed, yet did you read his signature? Your words will fall on deaf intellect.

This is a recession, come early due to cover-19 but it is NOT THE worst recession, not by a long shot. '83/'84 was a real recession.

You're damn right you lucked into it and the rest of the Apple world has paid for it ever since with worst-in-class software, neglected lineups of core products, lecturing on a variety of pet causes, throwing key employees under the bus and so on.

The sooner this joker is gone the better off we'll all be

Steve Jobs passed away in 2011, hand picked Tim Cook to be his successor and it’s now 2020. Cook didn’t luck into a product pipeline that’s was anywhere near that long.

They certainly screwed up their computers and laptops starting with that abomination of a workstation known as the 2013 Mac Pro, which was very much in the pipeline when Steve passed away.

Mistakes were also made with the MacBook and MacBook Pro lines at certain times but I’d put that atrocious “thinner, lighter, faster (with zero repairability or upgradeability)” more on Jony Ive than anyone else.

By almost every measure Apple is a much more successful company now than it ever was with Steve at the helm. That’s just a fact when you look a their revenue.

No company can scale up their their hardware production from what it was when a Jobs returned to what it is today and keep every product perfect.

It’s unheard of. When your moving millions of Macs with a set of three or four configurations a year that’s one thing. The volume of hardware and software they move and support today is something very, very different. It’s more akin to Microsoft than the Apple of old.

Jobs was a clearly a visionary but Cook has done better than any reasonable person could’ve expected. The iPhone is still around making a ton of money, they have admitted to and corrected their issue with the Mac lineup, the Apple Watch and AirPods have been huge hits and Apple has successfully entered and is now getting a sizable chunk of the service sector with Apple Music, Apple TV’s streaming subscription service, etc.

If you think Cook has done a bad job I’ve got a bridge in New York City to sell you.

Ardent11, that is the main entrance to Ohio Stadium, aka The Horseshoe, where the Spring commencement usually takes place.

An inspiring, thoughtful and literate talk. I’d show it to my college-age kids Watched the Vimeo replay of the commencement. Totally appropriate his decor was Ohio inspired — not my school, a rival — with discreet Apple. We do have to think anew. When I saw Apple come out with millions of face shields, I thought this man is a leader. The talk confirms it. Whether he remains as CEO of Apple or President of the US, this guy walks the talk.

Yet you wrote a 2 paragraph reply in defence of someone & a company you have no business let alone personal ties to. It's clear they got power over you.

Unrelated, but this is when I skipped to the middle and face I got of Timmy first thing instead of watching the whole thing

With the Apple product placements, for a minute I thought I was watching an Apple TV+ show.
I can't help but laugh when people mention Apple product placement in Apple TV+ shows as if content folks are trying to make Tim Cook happy.

In reality, Apple TV+ provides a good look at what tech device usage in shows would look like when you remove product placement dollars.😉

I agree with dogslobber. Commencement speeches are like a eulogy at a funeral — babbling words of meaninglessness inflicted upon the grieving to pass the time

It all depends on who you know and what you consider worthwhile. Not all funerals are “babbling words” and neither are all commencement speeches.

You can chose to surround yourself with the cynical and paranoid. And you can choose to find the bits in a public speech that don’t look 100% authentic. But in doing so, you’re also writing your own meaninglessly afflicted eulogy.

You barely even notice the products Lol. Am I missing the video you guys have seen? The iPad is covered, you see the Pencil, his Watch is probably always on and there’s a notebook. There’s more things noticeablein the background than on the table.

Exactly. He gave the “speech“ at his desk. Seeing an iPad and/or Mac on his desk seems perfectly normal.

He's getting to be the vision guy, or at least the writer who helped him. He's going to get more speaker fees. Weird how everybody answers in sarcastic memes and such. I thought that was pretty good.

It is the OTHER TDS.

I went to a rival Big Ten school (quite a few years ago), and have absolutely no recollection who spoke at my Commencement; some quasi-unknown state politician. More recently, they had several nationally known politicians, and I subsequently stopped giving to the alumni fund. I wouldn't have minded Tim (or in that era, how about Steve!?) speaking instead.

I couldn’t forget my commencement speaker haha. I graduated from OSU in 2013 and Obama was the speaker.

I suppose Tim Cook is waiting for the new 14" MacBook Pro as well :p

I think he has got the following products
  • MacBook Pro 13" Space Grey
  • iPad Pro 12.9" Space Grey with Magic Keyboard & Apple Pencil
  • Apple Watch Edition - Space Black Titanium Case with Black Sport Band
