Umm, no.

The FEC is, I hope, fairly reputable [1].

Harris: 75017613 votes, or 48.32%.
Trump: 77302580 votes, or 49.8%.

That's a total of 152320193 votes for the two main candidates. The total turnout was 64.3% [2], so to say that 50% of people voted for President Trump is wrong. The total of eligible voters who didn't vote is greater (roughly 87 million!) than either total for Kamala Harris or Donald Trump.

While factually accurate more voters voted Trump than anyone else or he wouldn’t be president. Assuming we factor in for the electoral college BS, it is what it is.

If you are a trillion dollar company, do you have a choice on talking to whomever is the President.
You do.

  1. You can NOT talk to them. As a trillion dollar company you are pretty safe from any policy they may enact compared to all those small companies destroyed by the tariffs.
  2. You can try to get an audience with them to influence policy.
  3. You can bribe to get an audience. This is what Apple has done.
"But the responsibility to shareholders!" people cry. I'm an Apple shareholder, even if just a very minor one. My opinion as a shareholder is that a company that sticks to values that are good and just is a better company than one that is willing to sell their values by bribing officials.

I think shareholders also should have responsibility to put value on other things than "stonks value go up".

IMO Tim Cook has done harm to the company by kissing the ring. Even if it has no repercussions on their bottom line, it is something that should be brought up now and in the future as ******** Apple has done.

Be better, Apple.

The fact that Tim is willing to engage with people who hold opposing views is enough for him to lose his Democrat card.
If those opposing views include eliminating the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, he should lose is card. How about a compromise... eliminate the 2nd and the 14th Amendments.

In an interview last month, Cook said he is "not a political person."
"I interact on policy, not politics," he said.

Uh huh..
Sure buddy

No politics ... just policy...

Exactly, just like the cowards standing behind a bully doing nothing. I expected more of Apple, I guess largely because I assumed due to their marketing, previous App store policies and whatnot they wouldn't really be gifting gold bars to someone who's actually been convicted of pretty grim things - but then you take off the rose tinted glasses and it's been obvious that a super successful company like Apple have bent their supposed rules for China, Russia and the middle east over the past decades.

Right. You don’t see Warren Buffet on his knees.

Tim Apple gladly got on his knees to appease Trump which makes Apple look weak. Shame. Nothing good has come from it either. It’s just tainted his legacy and he’ll forever be known as a Trump suck up. Steve Jobs would’ve never done that

I love his answer. Engage, don’t just yell from the sideline.
I do as well, but lots of people would prefer he yelled from the sideline rather than engage. Because engaging can be done tactfully, it can be read as “cozying up to” even if that’s not the point/intention. It’s an incorrect read IMHO, but that’s the only way I can make sense of some of the reactions I observe.

Poppycock.

I just saw the article photo and wtf man, what is this gold all over the place??? Is this the Kremlin? LOL!

Corporate ethics says you don’t bribe politicians to get favorable treatment…
That’s not entirely true. Depends on the jurisdiction for certain. A US company can write it off as a business expense doing business in a foreign country if that country uses that system either legally or illegally.
