It has to be gold encrusted with diamonds and rubies now. That's how it works. After that it's unmarked cash in suitcases.

I know I give him crap for bending the knee, but I also feel for him. I'm sure he didn't want his job to turn into this.
Don't. He didn't need his job to turn into this, this was a conscious decision he made on his own and with great enthusiasm. He isn't bending the knee because he thinks he needs to. He's bending the knee because he wants to.

He’s the CEO of one of the most powerful tech companies in the world. It’s literally his job to be in the room when tech and policy collide, whether you agree with the host or not. Business leaders don’t get to sit out because of politics. If anything, you should want him there representing the industry instead of leaving the table empty.
I don’t care if he shows up…I expect that. Where I get nauseated is when he bows down, bringing bountiful gifts of frankincense and myrrh. It’s pathetic. 🤮

Someone has to bow down and be humiliated. Better him than you. Be grateful for that.

The new Orange phone

Tim isn't humilated, I think he have a thing for the Orange guy - Orange phone 🧡
No, I’d strongly believe he feels humiliated. Anyone would. But that’s why he’s paid the big bucks, to be humiliated. The pay-off is protecting shareholder value. That’s his job.

The whole event is an exercise in humiliation. Tech CEOs are ordered to come to the White House to be lectured on AI by … Mrs Trump.

It is explicitly designed to be humiliating.

When Trump says jump, they have to say “how high?”. They have to sit and listen to someone with absolutely no experience of the tech industry on a tech industry subject, and they’ll have to smile and say “thank you” afterwards. And they’ll have to give money. Lots of money.

It doesn’t matter how much you like or don’t like Tim Cook. I wouldn’t wish this s*******w on anyone.

He's bending the knee to protect shareholder value. And the truth is, he has to do it. Apple is very vulnerable because of how much of its manufacturing is outsourced. Apple needs tariff exemptions.

In order to get them, Cook has to do what Trump tells him to. The smart move (and it is a smart move) is that Cook tends to make sure that Cook does what Trump tell him to do, which is different to Apple doing what Trump tells Cook to do.

That's quite smart, because Trump doesn't make that distinction, but it's an important distinction.

Or put it another way: If Cook doesn't do this, your next iPhone is going to cost you a lot more money than if Cook does do this.

Shame on Cook IF he goes, Shame on him !

He should tell him to go F himself...
I agree but the orange is is so unpredictable it is smart to be on the friendly even if moral say otherwise.
What gift will he bring?! Solid gold iPhone? Solid gold AirPods? What is the most gaudy Apple product we can dip in gold?
Maybe they have some first version the gold Apple Watch left. Pair it with happy pride or black life matters armband.

Even if morals say otherwise?

How far does one go with that rationale?
All the way to "but its' best to stay in Adolfs good graces"?

At some point you either stand for something as a person and a company, or you don't.

Apple and Tim Cook are losing every shred of respect I ever had for them here.

So many people that would just give the bully their lunch money in this thread.

Apple certainly has a choice. They're way too valuable to the US economy to have 47 cripple them with tariffs. They have leverage, they just don't want to hurt their image with a political fight against someone who is willing to lie, break the law, and turn an entire political party against them to get what he wants. While certainly the easiest path forward, appeasing the president's illegal threats lacks integrity and courage to do the right thing.

Kudos to Cook for standing his ground on the middle eastern trip, but the bribe was cowardly and short-sighted.
