The list seems pretty arbitrary; I've only heard of 20 people on that list. Only Timmy has had any influence on my world, because of Apple.

I don't see he unknown dude who ate the bat that started this Rona plague. Yeah, he did that years ago, but we're still feeling the effects today. I'd say he's damn influential.😑

Making a list of influential people that is not AI driven analysis of searches, policies, twitter, YouTube clips, etc is so passé.

Most these people are only influential to other reporters but have no real world impact. This reads like a list of people some journalists wish were influential. Should Cook be on here? Of course.

Is this like a Guinness World Record, where you buy the title?
Considering that Tim Cook has run the company for 10 years and it's profits have grown at a healthy rate I think he could pay off whoever he needs to if he wants to buy an award. I don't agree with a lot of things that Cook has done but he has been good for Apple business-wise. And I am old enough to remember when Steve Jobs was basically shown the door in the late 80's because of how poor the company had done financially in the previous years before he 'resigned'. The Lisa, the Newton, the PowerPC consortium were all part of Jobs 'accomplishments'. Even after he returned to Apple if he hadn't gotten a loan from Microsoft the company may not have stayed solvent long enough to turn around. A lot of the policies that Steve put in place on his second time as CEO were direct consequences of things he screwed up the first time, so he switched to a x86 architecture for Apple computers, scaled back his 'Newton' successor the iPad to be more of a convenience and entertainment device, and started getting Apple into the chip design business so if they ever went their own way again on chip architecture then Apple would be the only one making the decisions, instead of the Apple/IBM/Motorola consortium who each had their own agenda that was different than Apple's about what the PowerPC should focus on.

Tim is not what Apple needs. What Apple needs is another company to start kicking their butts all over the market place until they reawaken the urge to again be innovative. Their current operating mode is to occasionally release a new innovative device, then immediately put it on the track for perpetual, lackluster and incremental updates. They have no real competition to speak of, so they have no drive to push the innovation, nor even enough drive to clean up their buggy OSes and firmware. And they have no vision. They no longer care about computers or computing power, they only care about entertainment. One of these years that might bite them in the backside when Apple fans finally turn against them, give up on them, and abandon them, just as Apple has abandoned these fans with all the incremental updates to already lackluster products. It happened in the 1990s when Apple was so pathetic that they had to get a money infusion from Microsoft to stay in business. It can happen again if they don’t tone down the greed and increase the innovation.

He should write a book called "How experience in supply chain management enabled me to put the brakes on everything interesting happening at Apple and use their brand loyalty to make untold trillions of dollars off of iterative crap for a decade."

Influential for stock holders and politicians? Hope he retires soon for Apple better future.
I sure hope so too. It is painful to watch Apple iterate so pitifully and slowly because Tim thinks they can get away with it. There is zero urgency at Apple to do anything interesting or exciting or truly innovative.

"Just keep calling it innovative and people will believe it."

Why? He is leading the world's most successful company in terms of user satisfaction and environmental standards, while other companies are turning their back on their responsibilities in the name of quick sales and profits. Tim strikes a good balance with passing the baton to othr leaders during keynotes, because he's doesn't exactly have the same allure that our beloved Steve Jobs had.

Tell us 3 things you wish were different with Apple. We're listening.

Problem is, Cook wanted to make pastel colors the most important ones in 2021 and he failed. Now he tries the same thing for 2022

Either go with the "naked" (no makeup) shot, or hire someone who is an expert with air-brushing. I would go with the more natural look (no makeup). His handlers really need to review this shot and talk with Tim. This near-pancake look is not good.

I was pissed at Tim for nearly a decade. I hated the changes he made to Apple products after Steve's death.

But the man knows what he is doing, and in recent years has put his own stamp on Apple, shaken it up, and given me products that neither I nor many in the world would rather not live without. He has taken Apple to the stratosphere financially, culturally, and even environmentally.

All while also being a dignified member of a both underrepresented and resented community (that I don't belong to, mind you. I belong to a different underrepresented and resented one ;) .)

Props.

Well said!
