Yes ok. So why the huge media fuss about the 5G situation here? Again, this is a genuine question. I don’t know the answer. Is there something fundamentally different about this?

All the fuss comes from the U.S. gov and the bots and fake news related to the topic.

All due to geopolitical reasons. If you ask why Cisco routers have so many backdoors and why the NSA tapped the German Chancellery for decades, they'll suddenly be silent.

Interesting. Thanks. I will reconsider my position on this. I still don’t have a need for 5G, though.

I’d much rather phone companies focus on adopting existing technologies than 5G. For example neither of my two providers support eSIM so the ability to do a dual SIM is essentially useless.

This would be a life changing improvement for me. 5G would not.

what I would like to know as well as many others as to what is safe and not a cancer risk as many are getting cancer and it is a global problem.

Are Cell phones and RF frequencies gonna give you cancer, brain tumors over a long term use?
5G is obviously higher frequency than 5G and more of a saturation.
Are we going to have a global epidemic of Cancer because of long term HEAVY cell phone use around the world?
Is this why APPLE is eventually discontinuing the iPhone and moving to eyewear with phone capability and virtual reality

I think consumers have a right to know to protect their own health. Can not depend on our own Government to do studies and tell us the truth

I'm actually scared 5G gives off more RF residue than 4G. this is why I keep my iPhone inside the house and only use it with a blue tooth mic and a 5G hotspot for my iMac.

I’m sorry to say but I cringe every time that man speaks. His choice of words comes of as so not genuine. “We couldn’t be prouder”. Uhuh... sure.

Should stay real proud when a $1200 iPhone is stuck for four years with a 12MP cam and 4G while a $450 Xiaomi’s got a Samsung ISOCELL 108->27MP Quad Bayer cam and 5G. But yea sure. Proud of his profits he could be!

I love iOS and will never switch to ****** Android software. But on the hardware side, Apple is decidedly an overpriced mid-range offering around a high-end processor.

I really don’t understand everyone’s anger and ignorance towards 5G. Every 5G post just has a slew of people complaining about 5G and how they don’t need it, it’s pointless, etc.

You do realize it’s not just about faster speeds, but about more capacity, lower latency, and improved coverage too? It’s setting up the future capabilities for devices. Additionally, China is already racing to get 5G and we’re already competing with them and getting our intellectual property stolen by them. Let’s not get behind in the latest internet technologies which enable our country to be successful.

So much lack of forward thinking in all of the comments online about 5G. Sheesh.

How fast do you really need a page to load? :-D
5G might be future but for now 4G is totally fine. In few years we might revisit this conversation but until then its just specs chasing, nothing more.

Tim Cook said it best today:

"But generally I think what’s important when you think about 5G is to look around the world at the different deployment schedules. And some of those look very different, perhaps, than what you might be seeing here."

In other words, look at China because they've already deployed 5G with millions of subscribers.

It's not about loading webpages faster. It's about cloud gaming - loading entire 4k game content via streaming. Without 5G, that's not possible. It's about Apple TV+ 4k streaming to a 6.7" iPhone in a crowded underground metro. Without 5G, that's not possible.

The last time I heard him say he was excited about his pipe we got flawed MacBooks and lost relatively small phones. I’ll give him AirPods. Magical.

Isn't this the year that the Apple Car is meant to be arriving?

Never confirmed. Not to mention, we don’t know if Apple is just manufacturing the Software development side of things moving forward other manufacturers.

Simple logic: faster total speed = more customers being served = less need for more spectrum, less need for more cells = less need for price increase.

I'd rather use an iPhone 5 running iOS 6 if I could. That would be plenty fast for me.

“It’s important to look around the world at 5G deployment schedules."

In other words, he’s saying there’s a big country where 5G services have already been deployed with over 10 million subscribers. Apple needs to get in there.

China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom all activated their networks in less than five months after they were issued 5G licenses. Each of the network operators offered their 5G services at $18 per month in 50 Chinese cities at the time of reporting.

If coronavirus continues to escalate and spread within China ... sales will diminish for a time; investors have already posed question about supply chain of Apple's products and they've specifically reacted to that question stating measures are taken place and foresight of inventory may not affect the product line int eh short run. but scrutiny is there already.

As a UK citizen I will not be using 5G if I have choice. Ever.

I'll bet that although you avoid it in your phone/table ... your wearable smart watch, fridge, stove (home or employer) or your next car/SUV or public transportation above ground WILL have it.

I remember having a 3G phone in a 4G world.

It sucked... because 3G sucked. And I couldn't wait to get a 4G phone.

I recall a LOT of Android 4G bricks debuted far too early with 4G prior to the LTE branding, marketing. The roll-out also took about 8mths before settling in with reasonable and great designed products. I see the same thus far until fall 2020.

Dont' fret ... BT, which purchased EE back in 2016 has started since then to strip Huwaei from their core networks.

The article at the bottom of that link is VERY interesting if not a bit worrisome.

I don’t understand these analysts. They get the chance to ask one, maybe two questions, and they blow that opportunity asking about 5g. And of course Apple is not going to comment on future products.

This is so frustrating!

5G in the coming iPhones (except for the "SE2) is a lock. Just about nobody should think otherwise.

I'm more interested in the iPad Pro 5G rumours. For that, it all comes down to timing. We don't know when the new iPad Pros will come out, so 5G in the new iPad Pros is not absolutely guaranteed like it is for the iPhones. That said, I think it's likely the new iPad Pros will have 5G. I almost think the new iPad Pros may in part have been delayed to get 5G in them.

They're hoping he'll slip up or give something they can read between the lines. I think Tim Cook basically said Apple isn't going to be one of those early to the market.

Not like Apple will say anything else substantive, no matter what they ask anyway.

Y'all can have your 5G... be the test piggies. I'll chill with my normal LTE iPHone 9 waiting for your faces to rot off and your brains to go crazy from the 5G... if you don't maybe I"m in.

Why is that the headline? He said (as stated in post) "early innings of its deployment on a global basis". It means they're likely not going to adopt it this year.
