Why is that the headline? He said (as stated in post) "early innings of its deployment on a global basis". It means they're likely not going to adopt it this year.
No it doesn't, not at all. Remember, Apple struck a deal with Qualcomm worth at least $4.5 billion almost a year ago, officially announcing that deal April 2019.

The fall iPhones will be 5G, no question.

Basically all one might say is that not all 2020 iPhones will be 5G, but that is not a surprise either. The "low cost" US$399-US$449 iPhone coming soon will likely not be 5G.

I've got a feeling that 5G is going to really cost us. I'm planning to hang onto my 11 Pro Max for a while. At least until 5G gets more mainstream.

I think Apple will likely split up the way they do the tiers a lot more when they debut with 5G modems.

I understand lusting after 4g lte when. Having a 3g iPhone but now I’m in no rush to get a 5g iPhone until it reaches a certain maturity. Plus I’d have to get a more expensive 5g plan from Verizon. 4g Ltd is definitely good enough for now

Wouldn’t surprise me at all if Apple waits to implement 5G. Think about it. If they give you everything they’ve got in one release how will they get you to keep upgrading year after year.

Im not that excited for 5g in next years phones. By the time the iPhone 5 came out with 4g lte the networks were doing pretty well. I’ll watch, wait and see

Every year he says uses the same Phrases.

1- We are excited about the Pipeline... He also was excited last year and the only 2 good products Apple released were the iPhone 11 and the Watch. The entire computer line up (except Mac Pro, which is unaffordable) was a sham, Apple TV and the rest was quite lame to say the least.
2- Best year "EVER". Fastest computer "EVER".

Apple waiting to implement 5G is more of a problem if you don’t upgrade regularly.

Sure I don’t live in a 5G area now, but within a couple of years time I could and iPhones tend to have a 5 year support cycle.

It will be interesting to see the speed advantages the iPhone will gain with 5G, see how it compares to other manufactures.

Isn't this the year that the Apple Car is meant to be arriving?

According to some guesstimates, sure. But Apple might not release it until 2025 or 2028, or never. Or next week 🤷‍♂️

If/when it does get released, don’t expect to be able to buy it, as I (and many others) doubt it’ll be a consumer product.

Im waiting for 5G to mature a little, I remember the battery life on early 3G and 4G phones, Also no 5G in my area, and it wont be mmWave when it arrives as I live in a rural location, also I have a great sim only deal as it is on 4G and get EE's top speeds not the capped 60Mbps. So I get about 130Mbps down and 30Mbps up which is all I really need for now. So all in all I can wait a couple of more years and hold onto my iPhone 11 Pro while the networks and modem manufacturers get their acts together.

All this Huawei paranoia I find kind of amusing, the UK's VDSL backbone is mostly made up of Huawei VDSL cabs, and a few thousand cheaper Israeli ECI cabs, that are not as good as the Huawei versions and cant be made to support G.inp or vectoring properly. At launch many people happily had Huawei modems in their houses, as well. Openreach handed them out to match Huawei cabs for a while and in the end the Israeli ECI modems also were inferior and didn't work on Huawei Cabs properly. During the UK roll out of G.fast they use Huawei MT992 modems, even though they seem to have come to their senses and are rolling out fibre to the home now.

Huawei will be part of the 5G roll out in a limited way (masts and cabs maybe for back haul) also there is little technical evidence that they have actually done anything wrong either. Now I'm not saying don't be cautious but this wave of paranoia seems way over the top, especially when they make some of the best networking gear and much of it is way superior to the current competition still. The UK already has a lot of their tech in place already with no ill effect, I'm sure GCHQ checked and monitored Huawei's gear when it was installed during the 4G and VDSL rollout. After all out own governments monitor us, so its not exactly shocking news that another government might try, I'm sure both the UK and the USA do their fair amount of spying on China...

“We’re excited about-“ Seems to be Tim’s favourite phrase.

does he have this phrase tattooed somewhere?

Do facts matter anymore?

Maybe not, but here they are.

1) This was also a very exciting quarter for the Mac as we launched our most powerful notebook ever.

2) This quarter, we opened a beautiful new store in Kawasaki, Japan, and exciting things are taking place inside each and every store.

3) As we close the books on a record-breaking December quarter, we are already well underway on some new and exciting developments for the future.

4) We obviously couldn't be prouder of our lineup and is -- and are very excited about our pipeline as well and wouldn't trade our position for anybody.

5) This is the reason I'm so excited about it is you rarely have a new technology where business and consumer both see it as key to them.

but no 5G for iPhone 9?

My guess would be if Apple decide to introduce iPhone 9 in march, it will replace the whole iPhone 8 lineup ( while still available in third party channel ). It will likely be 2022 March before Entry Level iPhone gets 5G.

As a matter of fact I would not be surprised if the first Apple 5G Modem are used in 2022 Entry Level iPhone first before moving up to Flagship iPhone.

Nice bean-counting...

Those mocking my original post regarding not using 5G as a UK resident. That's fine, I get it :D

However, two things;
  1. Those who read further will see that I have since modified my position somewhat as the discussion progressed and I took onboard informed comments from others. As adults tend to do.
  2. People would do well to remember that the political climate is changing.
Just clarifying my position on the matter. I don't expect anyone to care or agree, and I'm bracing for further derision

I think there 5G Tim Cook referring to is more towards mmWave. Which is what most people refer to 5G anyway.

Which means there could be a possibility Apple will launch iPhone without the support of mmWave. In that case may be 2020 iPhone's price will be the same.

Y'all can have your 5G... be the test piggies. I'll chill with my normal LTE iPHone 9 waiting for your faces to rot off and your brains to go crazy from the 5G... if you don't maybe I"m in.
Sarcasm or serious? Can't tell!

5 g sound nice
i'll believe it when i have it perform in my own hands
infrastructure still not wide yet
