While Steve was not the nicest boss to work under, stuff got done. He also had something of a designer's eye so that helped when creating products. I miss the Apple that just worked. I'll leave my dislike of Mr. Cook off the table...save for the fact that I am somewhat disappointed there was nothing on Apple's website yesterday about Steve.

I think Apple is doing just fine. I do often wonder what Steve had his hands on in terms of products we have today. I do think the Apple Watch would have been talked about by him in its infancy, and also the headphone jack removal.
You can't plug 3.5mm jack headphones in anymore, but they supplied an adapter to do so. Want to charge and listen, get the adapter that Apple were working with Belkin on.
I wouldn't be surprised if the 7/7+ is the only product they supply the adapter with, and it's something I personally won't miss (as I'm sure millions of people are the same).

What's the betting that in the not-too-distant future, a Samsung or HTC device comes with no headphone jack?

Definitely, he just did it better, though. Guarantee they were thinking of this video when they mentioned courage in that presentation. The difference with jobs would be that he would present it in a creative way and wow you on it. It is tough to say if Jobs would have wanted to axe the headphone or not, because he was such a music lover and wants to cater to those people. In the end, I could see him agreeing with removing it.

I think he would have removed the headphone, it's old technology, but he would, like you say, presented it better.

I had my Earins for 6 months now and it looks really funny to see people wear cables. It's also inconvenient.

That said, there are some technical issues with wireless earbuds, if I turn my head quickly, the signal will drop. Sometimes it can be hard to make them connect, you have to pull them in and out of the case. Also, they need to be charged, which is an annoyance. If Apple solves these issues, I can't see people wearing cables in the 2020s.

The piece that is missing, I think, is wireless charging. If they could charge in my pocket, from my phone or some charger at the office or home, it would be really nice.

"And among his last advice he had for me, and for all of you, was to never ask what he would do. 'Just do what's right,' he said. He said he saw Disney paralyzed after Walt Disney's passing as everyone spent all of their time thinking and talking about what Walt would want. And he did not want this to occur at Apple.''

Agree. Truthfully, the only major problem in it for me is that I have an 08 BMW, no Bluetooth or USB, so I am forced to use Aux+USB to charge. So that really does mess up what I am doing and I haven't bought the phone, probably won't. But, there is that small adapter (shown below) that is being crowdfunded which wold solve that problem for me. And I am sure there are more coming. Apple should have created an OE version of this adapter. Another issue I could see coming up could be, maybe you rent an AirBnb with a stereo that has a headphone jack. But really you could just buy a UE Boom or other speaker and always have that situation dialed. For personal listening puposes the lighting headphones aren't a bad deal really. All in all, it isn't that big of a deal, but also, for the first time for me, the phone wasn't enticing enough for me to spend on the upgrade, and I am even on the upgrade program. Anyway... back on topic to Jobs.

SJ could be rough around the edges, but as a visionary genius he had a relentless drive that lifted Apple from bankruptcy to the most successful company in the world-complacency just wasn't in his vernacular. If there was a risk he believed in, consequences be damned he'd follow through on his vision. His keynotes made you feel like a kid again on Christmas eve, he made you feel like Apple wasn't just another business eeking out healthy profit margins but that you were truly witnessing magic and participating in phenomena that transcended typical corporate hype.

As we get further away from Steve Job's death (and the birth of Apple 40 years ago), people will forget his presence, presentation, and ability to incite enthusiasm is really unrivaled in the world of tech products.

There is no way in hell he would have gotten up on stage and said "courage" is a good reason to remove the headphone jack. He would have made a case that made you believe it was the right move, and you'd be thankful for it.

I wonder what he would make of the way Apple is run today and how Apple constantly fails to innovate year after year?
Tim Cook needs to step back and stop these stupid flashback interviews about Jobs. Go run your company Tim, it could use a little innovation and guidance, and you struggle my friend.

Really? minus a few odd elements, I have liked it quite a lot. Much better than 9

It just feels like a step backwards. Big white bubbles for notifications? Camera app is so unintuitive...huge bubbles for everything is so ugly. Everything feels cornered off vs a seamless clean interface. iMessage feels like a knock off of a Chinese messaging app. Removing slide to unlock was pointless IMO. So much more

I personally have thought the way pop ups now appear as "bubbles" with round corners is more refined. An overlay bubble over the content that you are looking at, rather than some straight line bar covering half of the screen I.E. old control center and such. So that I have liked. I like that they have leaned toward making it feel more desktop esque than a dumbed down mobile GUI which I prefer. That being said, I will agree messages updates were less well received for me personally. Absolutely not a fan of the scribbles tab, and would turn that off if it were an option. Stupid novelty. Camera app didn't bother me too much, there are so many options now in it it was a good practice for me to really review everything it can do before being out on the fly.

Home to unlock took a little getting used to but all In all I think is an improvement. Now from the main screen you can access camera from the right, notifications from the left, control center form the bottom, and home unlocks. Basically all the same functionality as before just in different form. Logically, unlocking with home does take you "home" so I thought that made sense.

At any rate, it is what it is. I will admit that messages does feel a bit cheaper now.
