Bracing for the onslaught of bigots that we see every time they put a front page article in PRSI.

Many religious types should heed my signature.

Just want to say I love your sig. I'm a Christian - have been my whole life - and I think this bill is garbage. There's nothing Christ-like at work here. Luke 5:27-31 is the perfect example of why this is NOT something Christians should support. Also, Christian-owned business in Indiana should put the "we serve everyone" stickers in the door, because they should serve everyone.

A private business has the right to do what they want with their business. If you don't like it, go spend your money elsewhere. If enough people do it, the business will go under. That is how the free market works.

Let's also remember that businesses likely won't turn down somebody just for being gay, but they might refuse to make a cake that supports/promotes the lifestyle.

Should a shirt company owned by anti-gun individuals be forced to make shirts for an open carry rally? No, they shouldn't because those individuals have the freedom to do what they want with their business.

The logic is quite simple, should somebody be forced to support an ideology they disagree with? It is a simple yes or no question.

This is SIMPLY NOT TRUE. What you're saying is, it should be legal to allow businesses to deny service to black people, Asians, whites, people with cross-eyes, handicapped people, you name it. Hate to break it to you, but decades worth of law has thrown out this approach to things. We DO NOT LIVE in a 100% free market anarcho-libertarian society. Hate to break it to you!

I think business that would like to refuse service to certain people based on their religious beliefs should put up a sign, so we know not to even go in. "Heterosexual Christians Only".

Thank you. For the record, I'm an atheist.

You've never lived in a small town I see. Often, there's only one of everything in a small town. If a gay couple living in a small, rural town in the middle of nowhere in Indiana is planning a wedding, and there is only one bakery for 100 miles, why the hell should they have to travel 2 hours to buy a wedding cake because the owner is a homophobic bigot?

Why would you threaten people with violence to do what you want them to do?

They aren't your slaves. Or is that what you want?

I came to America to run away from communism and socialism. And communism and socialism has found its way here. Basically the government controlling the individual with threat of violence.

I wish the bigots would stop co-opting Christianity as an excuse for their views.

Hatred of people that are different than oneself isn't condoned, much less required, by the teachings of Jesus Christ. He was pretty clear on that.

Businesses don't refuse to take money from somebody because of their ideology. Businesses refuse service when a customer says "hey, make this thing that promotes my ideology and is against your ideology."

Exactly. There's a difference between not serving someone because they're gay and not providing a service that esentially supports something you don't agree with. If I own a coffee shop and sell a gay person a cup of coffee that doesn't mean I'm supporting their lifestyle. But I can totally understand how someone who is against gay marriage would have a problem baking a wedding cake for a gay couple.

I'll never understand how some people interpret the Constitution's ban on establishing a state-sponsored religion, as an invitation to discriminate. This opens up a huge can of worms, as most religions essentially say their own system is correct, and if you don't believe it, you're sinning. Is it legal for Christian-owned establishments to ban Jews, Muslims, etc.? After all, many Christians believe you go to hell if you're not Christian. What about all the other restrictions in the Bible, so conveniently ignored? Bans on beards, tattoos, jewelry, etc. Is it OK to allow discrimination against people who have those features? Where does it end?

It's idiots like this who ignore the literal phrase "well-regulated" which appears in the second amendment, and interpret it as meaning "no regulation" for firearms whatsoever. Plus, that whole thing about it being oriented at militias, which implies that gun owners are actually official members of a state militia. And I say all this as a gun owner.

At the end of the day, there's only one reason why this stuff gets passed. Lobbying, and the money behind it. Logic has no role at all. Face it, people -- our system is corrupt.

The second amendment is 2 statements. One being about the necessity of a militia to a free state, the other being about the right of people to keep and bear arms not being infringed.

A well regulated library being necessary to the education of a free state, the right of the people to keep and read books shall not be infringed.

Now, do you think that means you are required to be a part of the library in order to own books? It is two independent points. Or do you feel that your right to read books must be well regulated like a library?

Idiots you say. . . You're wrong on this one.

Huh? Where the **** did I threaten people with violence?

Maybe but they should have the right to live their life as they please in a democracy. They're not denying you something you can't get elsewhere. They're just saying that they don't want to be forced to serve you. That will only breed resentment and division. Difference of opinion is the hallmark of a mature democracy. The opposite is called communism.

Could a Dr refuse an atheist patient? What if an entire community decides to act together to stop serving certain groups? This could make life intolerable for minorities in certain circumstances.

They only good part of this, is that with atheism growing every year, hopefully we get to a point when these laws can be used to finally finish of religion.

I'm not anglo, but I'm okay with racism. I'm not racist myself. I'd like to know who is so I don't have to be a patron of their establishment.

Capitalism brings people together. Eventually, businesses will need more money and open their doors to more people. But it's morally wrong to threaten people with violence for their personal beliefs.

Name one religion anywhere in the world that teaches colour discrimination.

Sure. Just as soon as you can tell me where in the bible it talks about Christmas. Or a rosary. Or St. Patrick. You would agree that those 3 things are part of Catholicism even though they don't come from the bible, right?

Every religion, even Christianity and especially Islam, is open to interpretation. How else would you explain the Southern Baptists' view on racial integration and white supremacy?

They can go elsewhere then, because I'm pretty sure Apple doesn't want their business. Not sure where they could go tho, pretty much EVERY tech company is pro-equality now. And vocal about it.

Replace gay with blacks or Apple fan boys. Still feel the same way?

Huh? Where the **** did I threaten people with violence?

It's not uncommon for 1st generation immigrants to associate with "conservative" ideas (or the basic dogma that comes with it) in the US. I see conservatives jump to the "use of force" or "coercion" talking point without prompting all the time, I suspect that's what happened here so don't take it personally. ;)

Do you think a police owned t-shirt printing company will produce shirts that say F the police and has a picture of a dead police officer who got shot by a sniper at a protest rally?

This is about peoples not being punished for refusing service that violates their beliefs. It is not about race.

What is your religion that causes you to be offended by mixed race couples?

The law does not specify what religion you must be for your beliefs to be valid. And the state has no mechanism in place to challenge the validity of the religion or its beliefs.

So if I don't agree with gay marriage I should be forced to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple just because I'm the only bakery in town? What is this the USSR?

Does their being gay interfere with the production of your business?

No?

Didn't think so.

See, you can put your views on gays aside. They can't put aside who they are.

Salesforce Cancels Programs in Indiana in Protest of Anti-Gay Bill

The controversy over Indiana's new anti-gay law continues to grow. Marc Benioff, the CEO of Salesforce, said that his company was canceling all its programs in Indiana in response to Gov. Mike Pence (R) signing a new law that could allow businesses to discriminate against same-sex customers based on religious objections.

Yelp CEO: We Won't Expand In States with Anti-Gay Laws

The CEO of the ratings website Yelp said the company will take steps to only expand into states that don't have "religious freedom" laws like the one that was just signed into law in Indiana by Gov. Mike Pence (R).

Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman, in a post on Yelp's blog titled "An Open Letter To State Considering Imposing Discrimination Laws" noted that that 19 other states have similar religious freedom laws.

Major Convention Threatens Boycott Against Georgia Anti-Gay Legislation

The CEO of the major science fiction and fantasy convention Dragon Con warned Georgia lawmakers of a massive industry boycott if the state passes a anti-gay, religious freedom bill.

The warning by the head of the Atlanta convention that claims attendance of over 50,000 came the same day that Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) signed similar legislation in his state. Both bills would allow businesses to refuse to serve people based on religious objections, which critics argue would effectively let businesses discriminate against gays.

Your move, Tim. Action, not just words. Close the Indiana Apple Stores.

So if I don't agree with gay marriage I should be forced to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple just because I'm the only bakery in town? What is this the USSR?

Where does it end? Can a gas station refuse to sell gas to a gay couple? How about groceries, can a grocery store refuse to sell to a gay couple?

Keep in mind these may be the only gas and grocery store in the area. It would effectively run gay couples out of town, which is ultimately what these bigots want.

So if it is something you don't tolerate, they should have to go elsewhere. Got it.

And what is intolerance, again?

The definition of "democracy" does not include a no-holds-barred approach allowing anybody to doing any thing at any time for any reason, as long as it's backed by their personal beliefs. If you really think that's what "democracy" means, I strongly encourage you to take some classes on civics.
