I cannot respond how I want to respond because I know some SJW will report it as being 'political' (has been done before numerous times) therefore I will just say 'Boohoo to you Tim Cook, my tears are streaming at the struggles you are having to make'

I have just shed a small single tear from my left eye for him…. I do prayer he can survive such a horrific reduction.…

He is the classic example of what’s wrong with the world these days.

Tim Cook should be using his entire salary to end world hunger. Oh sorry thought we were talking about Musk

Last quarter they made $22b profit. His pay cut won't make much difference to the bottom line.

I don't understand those kinds of numbers as far as pay, but its still commendable that he took a cut as he didn't need to. I would imagine that after a while you wouldn't know what to do with all the money?

We all make fun of Cook as well, but your whole life is Apple. I imagine the hours are long, the pressure is intense, and the demands are gruelling. I'd love to see a 'day in the life' video.

The thing is, Tim Cook has done an excellent job of addressing both the short and long term concerns of the company. It's a money making machine that is generating more free revenue than Apple has use for (which is why they are using share buybacks to return excess cash to shareholders), while at the same time continuing to work on new product categories.

Revisit that in a few years when the regulation starts to bite. They've gone too far with the App Store and invited scrutiny.

Also 'continuing to work on new product categories' how many have they released since SJ died?

In my opinion, there was nothing Apple could have done to stave off the regulators and the critics like Spotify and Epic, who wanted nothing more than to burn the current App Store model to the ground. In this regard, it made little sense to overplay your hand and risk making more concessions than strictly necessary.

I am also cautiously optimistic that Apple will be able to get away with making minimal concessions to adhere to the terms of the DMA (ie: sideloading with checks and balances in place, no third party App Store, still able to bill devs for side loaded apps).

We are now at an era where it's no longer enough to simply release a good product and call it a day, and this is where I am happy to have someone like Tim Cook running Apple, as his political savviness should prove invaluable in helping Apple navigate these complicated landscapes.

Apple Watch, AirPods and the M1 chip. And we know they are working on AR glasses and cars (it's not hard to see how Apple has been busy seeding the ground from behind the scenes). That's the unique advantage they have over the competition - an established ecosystem to help prop up any new offering.

Bad news. Imagine how he's going to milk and dime us now to reach a "quota".
There's no "milk and dime"'ing us if we don't participate.

Apple products are not rent, groceries or tuition fees. You can do without them.

Consumers, on average, keep upgrading too often despite continuing price hikes and despite Apple cutting corners on components in certain products, like the cheaper SSDs in base configuration M2 Airs, certain features cut from 128GB Pro iPhones, atrocious value/$ for iPad 10th gen, etc.

We're too bored to not pull the trigger and get the next new toy.

Apple is just a business enabling this behavior, and any reasonable business will raise prices as long as demand never drops or keeps going up.

Apple will, however, lower prices once we cut back on the mindless upgrading frenzy that the entire consumer and techs-sphere feedback loop has been perpetuating for the last 10+ years.

You vote with your dollars, it's that simple.

Have a look at some of the reasons they rejected Spotifys app updates for at a time when they had just launched a competing service. They were asking for it.

The M1 chip isn't a product it is a component, Apple Silicon was also shipping in products under Jobs.

They pretty much had three, Airpods which have been a huge hit, Apple Watch which has done well and Homepod, less said with that the better.

Three new categories in eleven years with practically unlimited resources!

Apple and TC chose short-term gains by taking advantage of the cheap labor in China rather than moving and investing elsewhere.

Apple is trying to move elsewhere now, but if TC was the supply chain wizard that people pretend he is, Apple would have done this a long time ago, and the supply chain nightmare would just be a speed bump for them.

You are right, but the hit has been especially hard on the tech sector due to their reliance on cheap labor in China. Apple has pretty much been the poster child for the consequences of the over-reliance on China.
Nearly everything flows through China. Why are people acting like Apple is alone here? Heck we had to wait on parts from China for swimming pool heater! People even had to wait months to get replacement windows for their house.

Cook already pledged to give it all away to charity before he dies.

Why not give more today than a giant lump sum tomorrow? Or, since he has so many millions today, reduce so his lower end employees can get a small bonus and still give some to charity?

Oh no. Let’s start a GoFund me for Tim. Sending thoughts and prayers.
Yea I could still live multiple lifetimes on the new amount. This is like when they cry about taxes. You still have way more left over than entire small towns in the US

I am not sure if you are making a general statement, or if the bold part of your quote was based on my posts, but my previous posts say that the a lot of the tech industry is guilty of relying too much on China.

The reason why a lot of other posts just reference Apple, is because the article is about Apple and Tim Cook. Also, Apple has made themselves the poster child for the over reliance of China.

You don't see any news articles about people not being able to get their pool heaters or articles about unrest and riots at a window factory.

If you read the whole article, it was largely at his own request. He doesn't feel he needs that much, and would rather see it go to more deserving employees.

Celeb athlete just makes all that money for himself (and maybe his family). Then he throws it all away on cocaine, prostitutes, Lambos, overpriced mansions, and Jack Daniels. Just ask what Mike Tyson did with his over $350 million in earnings.... only to declare bankruptcy a few years later.
Well, that’s still creating jobs for Italy, USA, China, and wherever pros and coc come from 😄

Honestly, I feel like he took the pay cut this year to protect his "CEO" title. Of course, he doesn't want to step down so he decided to take the pay cut to make them (The board) happy and to prove a point that he can do this job with half of the salary yet keep his CEO title for another year or so. Also, the board will not be able to call him out because Tim Cook already took the pay cut.

Just playing the game in Corporate America. Perfect timing, perfect plan and just trying his luck. Of course, I could be wrong but that is what it seems like now. He knows exactly what he's doing and knows what to do next. It's not about the money it's about him keeping his title and holding onto the throne.
