Never ascribe to incompetency that which can be explained by maliciousness.

Bill Gates is the single biggest landowner in all the US. And he wants us to start eating bugs. That’s not foolishness, it’s evil.
Evil? Really? Plenty of cultures all around the world eat bugs and have for thousands of years. Are they all evil? Bugs are very nutritious and easy to farm. To most westerners, eating insects sounds gross because we've been conditioned to believe that. Personally I'd much rather eat bugs than some weird lab grown meat.

He should receive nothing. Dude is just coasting. Apple has no innovation under him. All small tweaks and more of the same. Time to go Tim!!!
Lol. Yeah, because the CEO is the only innovator at the company! Yes indeed, Tim Cook alone is responsible for all of Apple's innovations...or lack thereof! Geez.

Who in the tech world is blowing your mind with innovation these days? From what I've seen, the entire industry is "small tweaks and more of the same" these days. You're also not giving any credit to the massive innovation we've seen over the past few years with Apple Silicone.

I've been an Apple customer for 40 years and let me tell you, it hasn't been non-stop innovation. There have been many periods where things have plateaued for a long time. The people who complain about a lack of innovation are likely newbie Apple fans who were wowed by the iPhone and have totally unrealistic expectations.

Show me one consumer electronics company who is more innovative than Apple these days.

There's only one man for the job.

Craig Federighi
100% Agree! Mr. Craig Federighi should be given a chance to become a CEO before he takes off like the rest of the ex-Apple Executives such as Phil Schiller, Jony Ive, and so on.

How about giving John Ternus a chance?

I think Tim and the other execs in Apple could be great philanthropists. After earning 100 millions dollars (after paying tax), surely being kind to other outweighs the need to keep making money?

I think this is why Steve chose Tim as his predecessor, he knew that he wouldn't rock the boat and just keep it smooth sailing.
He is smooth sailing it to a spiralling downfall I think if he keeps increasing prices to the point people will stop paying for them. Also tagging on variations of the same product for no good reason. The iPhone 15 Ultra for instance, better be just a name change to the Pro Max and not a further top end iPhone above the Pro Max.

He can only ride on Steve Jobs legacy for so long before things get stale and need a good refresh.

Same thing happened after Steve was ousted previously. They rode on the products he made and then when they couldn’t think of anything new they increased prices and increased prices until nobody bought them and they nearly closed up shop.

Didn't Steve Jobs elect to get paid $1 / year? I'm sure he got plenty of other compensation but still...

I can't afford (nor do I want to) apple products anymore. Tim milked every last dime out of Steve Jobs innovative, culture changing era. Reduced the production cost to an absolute minimum, pushed the prices to the absolute peek that gullible people are willing to pay and did nothing to enhance creativity through their products. Jobs understood that the computer was a tool to help push people into amazing creative avenues. Tim has done nothing to advance this aspect of apple. He has removed a lot of the "computer" from apple. 12 years of Tim and we have all the same software for insanely expensive, non-fixable or upgradeable hardware. All designed to be single use and repurchase after 2-3 years. It's just gross. Guy had his place in apple, but running the vision of what apple was is not one of them. He has a legacy of some of the worst apple product ideas in decades. Maybe I am wrong and they have been building this new AR project and it will bring a new era to apple. If not, they are in big trouble of staying relevant, just like the 90's. So many product skews, no clear vision, no reason to upgrade or buy something new. Everyone caught up to them and they do it for cheaper.

Read back a few pages, your question has been answered a few times already. Jobs was worth $10B when he died and it wasn't from making $1 a year even if you account for compounding interest. If Cook cut his salary to $1 he still would have made $95M last year (rather than $98M).

Jobs understood slick marketing better than anyone, and $1 a year was an example of that.

He seems to live very modestly and has said he'll give his fortune away to Charity

Lucky to have such a down to earth guy as boss tbh , Steve always had great taste
That's one of the oldest lines in the world of money and you fell for it.

Much like with Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and others what they're really going to do is put their money into a shell charity which, conveniently, their friends & family members "oversee" and serves two purposes:

1. The friends/family members can use it as a slush-fund & set themselves up with large salaries

2. Since it's a "charity" they don't have to pay a death-tax and they can write things off a tax deductable.

Well said! You made excellent points. 👏

Bring back the old packaging. Under Tim Cook, more than half of the stuff you see below is gone due to the excuse of cutting costs and being environmentally friendly stuff Tim Cook has been feeding us. However, the prices ended up getting higher and higher every year. Just milking on Steve Jobs's innovation. As many others have said, Tim Cook is just coasting it. Made $100M last year and he's been on a cruise mode for a while now.

You're right. Tim has now been riding on Steve Jobs' legacy for 12 years. Apple is certainly poised to crash and burn for the incompetent way Tim has managed Apple after SJ passed away.

Exactly. For most people, gimmick = innovation. Most people don't recognize all of the small cumulative innovations either. They want to be wowed like the iPhone wowed them and I dare say, that may never happen again. Tech is now such a big part of our everyday lives that people have become desensitized to innovation. When there's so much innovation happening, it almost seems like nothing is happening. It's the classic "can't see the forest for the trees."

I would say most, if not all, CEOs would not agree to this cut. Tim is clearly not motivated by money. He is the head of a $2T company, and considering his performance over the last 10 years, he should be well compensated.
Even though Cook "agreed" with the package (whether it is a real cut remains to be seen), it was forced on him by the big institutional investors. As to Cook's emotional relationship with money, I don't know but the structure and size of his compensation packages indicates he better be motivated by money. You can be damn sure the shareholders are motivated by money and, by extension, so is the Board working on their behalf who hires the CEO.

🎵money, money, money...makes the vurld go around🎵

I remember years ago there was a report saying the CEO of Costco restricted his own compensation to just $250K/year, and he believed Costco should benefit its customers not to the shareholders or any employees.

Give others a chance? What is this, third grade? You have to earn it.
I agree! You do have to earn it. There are plenty of well-over-qualified people under Apple's Leadership team that will be ready to take the role and hit the ground running if the opportunity is given. I'm pretty sure Mr. Tim Cook is not the only person in this world that can run/own Apple. There are others too... well qualified.

This is coming from a person who admires Mr. Tim Cook.

It’s already crashed and burned. He has destroyed the soul of the company it’s unrecognisable from Steve’s Jobs’ Apple.

It’s all about money money money now. Product design and actually making life changing products, which is what got them to where they are now is no longer at the forefront of their business strategy.

For the price they’re charging for products like the MacBook Pro 16 you can get something £1000 cheaper and have far better performance. Which is why it makes no sense how they are plucking these price points from thin air.
