Not necessarily. I am buying the X despite not liking the notch. I am dying for an upgrade after over 3 years of underwhelming iPhone releases and a notch won't get in the way of that.
My family liked the great upgrades offered the last couple of years and now everyone now has a “better” phone than me. My issue I can’t hand me down my 6s to anyone and I don’t want to hassle selling it. So my phone upgrade is on hold, however the watch and AirPods are a go.

I like how Apple embraced the notch; took a lot of guts.

Still a niche market. Apple doesn't even put a separate category for Apple Watch on their financial report indicated that. Smart Watch market is not taking off as Apple or other OEMs wished. You don't see people wear smart watch like people carrying smartphone.
The reason for that is that the watch is an accessory product. It may be moving beyond an accessory in the future but Apple has always been clear that it is a companion to the iPhone.

There is no point factoring subjectivity into this equation as all future iPhones will come with this notch like it or not as its here to stay. So if you want an iPhone, you have to bear that notch. That notch was only implemented so that people know its an iPhone. In the process, they ruined customer experience for many. Not a single customer would have found a problem with a generic slab apart from snobs who want to brag they own a 1k smartphone to the world. So which is better?
Isn’t it a bit early to bemoan the notch given that iPhone X isn’t even on sale? If I were to hazard a guess, I believe the traditional form factor will remain for the foreseeable future, much like the iPhone SE. The iPhone X is better viewed as a new subcategory within iPhone than a total rewrite. Hence the announcement of the iPhone 8 at the same time with the traditional home button.

The rest of the smartphone makers have already gone to near bezelless designs, and didn't do it with a notch. Apple is late to this so don't agree that the traditional form factor will remain for foreseeable future. Samsung has three different sized devices. Apple is late with only one. It will probably be another year before they have something of the S8+ size. So only in Apple's lineup is the traditional form factor there for the foreseeable future.

The notch is deliberate. They are going out of their way to draw attention to it. It emphasizes the face id technology and creates a unique screen shape to stand out from the crowd. Definitely a marketing choice and it has everyone talking, so mission accomplished. And now all the android phones are quickly shifting gears trying to implement face id-like functionality to catch up. Much like the scramble after the release of the original iPhone which defines every modern smartphone. Without Apple’s template, we would all still be tapping away on plastic keyboards. So no, Apple is not late to anything. They just stop to think first.

There are a lot of people that have been thrilled with the new specs of iphone 8, in fact I am one of those consumers really waiting for it. However, as I am also a business man I think the Apple company had a wrong move this time. Base from what I have read, investors now are having no interest in iphone 8 as it had a negative sales this third quarter of the year, it sales surge down up to 3%. I think, me as well has been disappointed with this news.To site the article: Apple iPhone8 Issue
