Im willing to bet the yellow denotes him as being a person of importance. So when the employees see the amount of yellow they understand the significance of the person. Look at the other behind that just have a yellow hat and/or collar.

just my thoughts

Nah.

If you look at other photos posted on the Bloomberg article, there are a number of people in the group who are also wearing the yellow coat. It's probably just means that he's a visitor. Yellow is a high visibility color and anyone wearing that jacket probably needs to be accompanied by someone in a white coat.

It's probably part of Foxconn's security policy. Someone wearing a yellow jacket should not be wandering around unsupervised.

I wonder how long Foxconn coreographed who was going to be doing what during his visit. I'm sure it was a lovely tour that presented nothing concerning.

Also:

China is a key location for Apple for a number of reasons, including its role in manufacturing and assembly, a desire to focus on expansion in the market there, and intellectual property issues.

Let's not beat around the bush. Dirt cheap semi-skilled labor, just like every other electronics manufacturer uses China for.

He certainly seems to be making his own mark as CEO - rather than being lost in Jobs' shadow - good to see.

I can see why there is a lot of publicity for this. He needs to show he is in charge. Steve would make trips to Foxconn and other suppliers unannounced to catch them cold. There are times he dropped suppliers seeing a substandard crew work on the Apple supply chain.

hmm, tim doesn't seem to be dropping his jaws and going like "What the hell do you think you are doing to these workers??!!!"

If this is getting so much publicity. I keep on wondering how much of a Potemkin Village this assembly line is compared to the ones that get most of the product out the door.

Interesting times.

The Chairman of Lenovo, Liu Chuanzhi, said this less than two years ago:

We are lucky that Steve Jobs has such a bad temper and doesn’t care about China. If Apple were to spend the same effort on the Chinese consumer as we do, we would be in trouble.

May you live in interesting times, Mr. Liu.

That's not a yellow collar. The guys is wearing a full yellow coat but there's someone else standing in front of him. As a result it kinda looks like a yellow collar.

Have a look at the actual article, seems several of the party are wearing below coats.

So my guess is yellow is the visitor's colour

He's waving to iPhone Girl!

I took the liberty to choose this picture instead.

I don't think its hard work, just extremely boring day after day.

Except for no talking, eating, drinking, bathroom, etc.

I believe that this is 99% on China for allowing humans to be treated this way in the workplace, as Apples employees are no worse off than countless other employers there. Some claim they're even better, but I know I have seen worse. If Apple wants to stay on top, they need the same labor costs as other major companies.

The human body is not designed to be doing repetitive motion for that long, and the damages mentally as well as physically are massive.

China's low labor costs are their competitive advantage in the world. Sending them back to subsistence dirt farming is not doing them any favors.

If Tim wanted respect, he's have chosen black with a cape and height-enhancing shoes. Maybe throw in a black helmet with a breath-filter.

Cool, intriguing stuff, thx for sharing your knowledge. My anthro studies have gone only so far east as India. Very neat.

And on a sour note, a big F U to the three tards that have no appreciation for anything beyond buying themselves toys. May your offspring choke on the batteries.

From Wikipedia:

Yellow, corresponding with earth, is considered the most beautiful color. The Chinese saying, Yellow generates Yin and Yang, implies that yellow is the center of everything. Associated with but ranked above brown, yellow signifies neutrality and good luck. Yellow is sometimes paired with red in place of gold.

Yellow was the color of Imperial China and is held as the symbolic color of the five legendary emperors of ancient China. Yellow often decorates royal palaces, altars and temples, and the color was used in the robes and attire of the emperors.

Yellow also represents freedom from worldly cares and is thus esteemed in Buddhism. Monks’ garments are yellow, as are elements of Buddhist temples. Yellow is also used as a mourning color for Chinese Buddhists.

So we should see Apple logo in Yellow next.

Funny thing - "yellow" can also mean "pornographic".

With the pictures showing the people of China scrambling to line up for work there I'd assume they're not too unhappy.

Reporters would select the happiest picture from lots of unclear and unhappy pictures or those with distorted faces in such an occasion...

It seems that tim cook wants to pay much attention to the working conditions of the partner facilities.

I read another story just moments ago, of Foxconn workers upset about shortened hours. Regardless of who is right or wrong, these people are getting paid what seems to be average for that part of the world. At least Tim is making an effort to make things right.
