Think Different

Samesung will build one twice as big but it will be made of plastic and is scheduled to last about three years. It's not my saying but I read recently that Samedung will let us know what trees it will plant just as soon as they see the plans from Apple.

Hard to imagine a more impressive building anywhere else in the world. Very unique.
It's really not, on both counts...

Can I get an amen?

Seriously?

As far as workplace buildings are concerned, (i.e. not historical), absolutely.

There's a lot more to it than just a circular shape - clearly every other sports stadium in the world holds that ticket already.

How about you read a little more about the design features...

Does it really hurt that bad?

So, Sir Jonny Ive isn't content with making iPhones out of atoms that naturally occur in this corner of the Multiverse, and Tim ( I'm well rich ) Cook builds him his own personal particle-accelerator???

An iPhone made of pure Higg's Bosons is going to be well heavy!

Notice there are no doors on the outside perimeter?
The only employees will have to sit in the trees while they build it around them, or get born in there.

You can't assume there are no doors from a rendering with that scope and perspective. In Peter's words, he referred to collaboration up and down the hallways AND across the grounds, which implies doors--MANY of them.

I have been an Apple Fan since I bought my first Mac computer almost 30 years ago. I have fought corporate environments all my career promoting Macs and staying the course.

Now however, Apple has become the 800 pound gorilla in the computer industry and pounding it's chest with a corporate design that is an extravagant use of the billions they have in capital at a time when they are falling behind in technology and innovation.

Wrong, and quit spelling "its" with an apostrophe.

They're NOT being extravagant. Apple is a GLOBAL company with huge demands for enhanced collaboration. This design will foster that. A few billion for a huge facility like this is COMMENSURATE with Apple's income and production levels.

They're NOT behind in technology or innovation. They're LEADING in those areas.

I would much rather see lower prices and more innovation than a spaceship. Another company tried to do this about the time I bought my first Mac. Remember Atari, the glamor of the game industry? What ever happened to their state of the art campus? Most of all what happened to Atari?

Apple doesn't owe anyone anything as far as pricing goes. The guiding principle is "charge what the market will bear." Factual evidence supports this so glaringly, it makes YOUR irrational assertions the 800lb gorilla in the room. All you or anyone else who want's to enjoy Apple product ownership have to do is simply MAKE MORE MONEY! Nothing wrong with that.

Attempting to compare two events profoundly different in respective circumstances and separated by decades of time reveals a substantial degree of ILLOGIC.

Apple should stay the course, but innovation and technology is passing them by and with a new facility, it will not impress anyone unless they do something for their customer base.

How do you people not get the fact that Apple has the means to build such a complex precisely BECAUSE they've been "doing something for their customer base" for decades?

As a customer I feel abandoned. We need a new Apple, not a new Apple facility. Make a pledge to your customers and not to yourselves or you will become another Atari.

Are you a disgruntled ex-Atari employee? Time to get over it, don't you think?

One of the wealthiest companies in the world and yet they offer grad students a lowly yearly salary. Not gonna get a lot of good talent coming through that new campus if they keep it up.

When will it be oppening and when will we all start camping out to be the first one in the mothership? :D

No doors? Looks like you have no idea of the scale of this building. There are many doors on the outside, they're just too small on the rendering to see. This building is huge! It's over 60' high, so a 7' door would be the size of a spec of dust on the drawing.

Grad students generally have little real-world experience of the business world. Successful companies pay people for contribution and results, not how much time you spent in lecture halls and performance on tests. They get paid in accordance with how well they perform over time, not before they perform.

They should have picked a place where they can at least build 3 of those motherships very close to each other. One is not enough.

there will be only one door, like in every house, and underground laboratory like Resident Evil 1 movie, everything will be computerized(oops, Mac OSXized) and...well you know what'll happen next...it'll be zombie apocalypse or "terminator" scenario
how bout that Ming Chi, huh!?...or what's the name of that future telling buddy

After the great merger of 2027, Samapple will become too big for the old spaceship campus on planet earth and a new spaceship campus orbiting earth will be created.

If they were to merge Samapple does not seem right. How about --

Is this guy completely retarded or just briefed poorly?

"We are making the most environment friendly building that has ever been build... Beginning with energy... ..70% of the total energy consumption will be produced on site by solar power.."

Fun fact: Hundreds of thousands of buildings in the world are producing energy surplus - some by 50 to 100%..

He did not say "70% of total energy is green", he said that "70% are produced on site by solar power". The other 30% could be coming from other green sources, such as wind.

Well this ought to be interesting since round buildings are not efficient. Ask anyone who has ever played Trivial Pursuit and needed to get to the other side of the board. I hope these employees can wear their running shoes to work.

Only 2.8 million sf? They should have just built vertically it's more impressive. A 5 story circle doesn't look as cool as a 120+ floor skyscraper. There are already a few skyscrapers with over 3 million sf so they should have done that!
