Does it still work with the Apple Polishing Cloth?

And where is the Mac Sock??

I get a new Mac every 4 or 5 or 6 years, so it doesn't matter to me that this changes.
Even if you order a new one every year - does this really impact anyone's buying decisions?

Probably not. But, this was a change in ordering for the sake of a change. If I choose the baseline processor, I should only see the available options. Don't let the customer choose a baseline processor and then give them 'x' number of memory choices that will not work, then notifying the customer with a pop-up window that the option will not work. That is just irritating for customers.

Apple did not improve the shopping experience at all. I suppose this idea was also suggested by the clown who thought it would be a good idea to use AI to reorder screen icons.

You know what would be even better? Replaceable SSDs. Yeah how about bringing that one back.
Remember with the old plastic MacBooks (IIRC) - you could pop out and replace the hard drive through the battery compartment? That was great.

Heck, even on my 13" 2015 MacBook Pro (best computer Apple ever made) - it was pretty simple to upgrade the storage. I put a fast Sabrent 1TB NVMe drive into mine...

A while back, they used to one or two additional configurations in stores over and above the general retail ones. They were typically the top standard model with more storage and/or memory. You could always tell as available straight away. Shame they don’t do this now.

Wonder if someone tries to place an order for this Apple would ship an M5 Max model assuming they come out soon, making for a stealth upgrade
Apple won't ship you something other than what you ordered. If you order M4 Max and M5 Max is released before your order ships, it's on you to "realize" that and decide if you want to cancel your order or not.

Plus, I'd be miffed. I prefer to stay a bit behind on the OS, and M5 systems won't be able to run macOS Sequoia.

The new checkout doesn't automatically scroll down the page as you select options - wow. Apple Store needs to watch some people checking out, they always make the Store online process so different than other online stores that it's kind of confusing to people when they first try it. I think they'll have to tweak this, it isn't obvious at all.

Things just keep getting worse and worse for the Mac. I cannot believe they got rid of pre-configurations. Now it's anyone's guess what Apple will have pre-stocked at their stores. This new i-generation has no idea what it was like to be a Mac customer decades ago, but it was far better.

What issues are you seeing on your Mac with macOS 26?
Here's a thousand posts about the myriad issues with 26. See:

In short: inconsistent design (corner radius varies for example), very poor legibility due to "Liquid Glass." Along with various bugs unrelated to design.

Sam Tucker sums it up:

I will be VERY curious to see what the Ram/SSD upgrades are for the upcoming M5Pro/Max MBPs with this change. Something tells me this was done to make the price increases on higher tier models less obvious?

I do appreciate that it is now easier to pick a ram configuration that is only available on one chip option. It is still somewhat enraging that I can't get a 16" MBP with 64gb of Ram anymore (like I could before) without spending an absolutely ungodly amount of money.

I’m very likely in the minority.

I’d like an 8TB but with the base processor and memory.

I just have a lot of pictures and video of family and trips.
But I have no need for advanced processing or extra memory.

I was hoping maybe this new method was more configurable, but sadly no.
