that's a great deal :) You're right that Apple makes a lot of consumer stuff now, but let's hope that Apple hasn't forgotten the Pros. We should know by Macworld.

I think we know now. I just don't see Apple being so versatile that they'd make two separate lines of ACDs... but I have been surprised and proven WAY wrong in the past. :D

Sure, i mean I agree with you, and all signs point towards Apple going down the consumer route since they obviously make more money there.

Call me a sentimentalist but I'll like to believe Apple wouldn't keep the mac pro and not offer pro displays to us professionals. That would just break my heart

There won't be a pro display. Apple only makes gadgets, phones, and consumer stuff now. The only Pro machines will be the Mac Pro and the 17" MBP. Everything else is for the soccer moms and dads with deep pockets.
I think you're right. Thanks to the success of the ipod and the iphone Apple is going mainstream now as much as possible. They aren't stupid consumer market is where the money's at and that seams to be what they are concentrating on.

But if things go wrong and Apple doesnt manage to hit the consumer market it will loose the pro market as well with all this indifference towards the traditional Apple supporters... the pro users!

Right. As of now, with the discontinuance of Xerve RAID Apple turns us to the VTrak Promise systems, which are a better option from what I have read.

Apple may just tell Pro users to get displays from NEC and LaCie and Eizo who of course don't have glass panels and glittery consumer gimmicks.

my friend does web design and she really wants a matte display option, says it's very hard to accurately tell how colors will look on other displays when you have a glossy screen that seems to give the color more pop. Her words, not mine :D

When the majority of displays out there are now glossy?

Ok.

Why doesn't Apple make affordable consumer displays? For around $200-$300?
Great point... and if Apple is so much concerned and pointed towards the consumer market then why is the new ACD so overpriced? Unless Apple really believes that its a glossy display for professionals!

I've been waiting to buy an affordable display from Apple for ages! I think the reason the Display is so overpriced is because it's LED.

Yeah... The LED Cinema Display is around $400 less than any other LED display on the market. Plus an iSight, plus speakers, plus a microphone.

People don't seem to realise that, it can't be cheap and be LED, if you want cheap, buy 3rd party, there's plenty of displays out there that'll do the same job, some which look almost as nice as the ACDs.

Bingo. How does that old thing go?

Cheap, fast, good. Pick any two.

This is what a freelancer lives by, and what much of the consumer world has forgotten.

Maybe Overpriced isn't the right word... expensive?

Sure that works too, but so does "priced just right compared to other LED H-IPS panel toting displays out there.

It's really a nice display. I am more peeved at the lack of connection options (but it does say made specifically for MBs) and the glossy screen.... (which I am just a little upset about, but can either get over it, or grab another display).
