This is just like Nikon and there new Z series of cameras. Marketing says it is “zee,” but (as all the Canadians mock this) it will surely be pronounced “zed.”

Sometimes marketing just needs to take a breather.

I never understood why they changed them to "little" letters in the first place.

We had "iPhone 4" and "iPhone 4S". When someone said "iPhone 4s", you assumed they were talking about a plural number of iPhone 4 phones.

Apple then changed it so that the "iPhone 4S" was then the "iPhone 4s". Is that a lowercase "s" or a small capital "s"? Is that a single iPhone 4S or multiple iPhone 4 phones? You cannot tell.

I’m Embarrassed MR found the need to post this. Really guys? LOL their iPhones out there that still have bugs and don’t work and y’all worried about spelling LOL omg. I’m done.

iPhone XS / iPhone XR works on this forum, but iPhone XS / iPhone XR makes the X look like part of an acronym rather than the roman numeral for 10. Not a good choice.

No need to fret. Even Apple marketing department couldn't get it straight.
Regardless of their fumbling, the new phones for the rest of the human race will forever read:
Excess
Exar
Excess max.

I think the real mystery is what the 'R' in XR stands for. Reduced? ColoRed? Anyone want to take a swing?
"Reach". During the keynote, the phrase used to introduce the new XR was:
"We want to reach as many customers as we can with this incredible technology, so that's why we are very excited to show you one more iPhone." (Video should start at that phrase...or close to it.)

I’m getting the 256 GB Gold Maximum Excess. Done. It’s my phone and my thousands of dollars and I’ll call it whatever the $$$$ I want. However you media folks do what you must to avoid being shunned.
The only legitimate XSMAX is XSMAX with 512 GB XSMAX like the one I am getting. All XSMAX under 512 GB is not truly “MAX” as 64 and 256 GB are not the maximum size and are “illegitimate” XSMAX, maybe should be called XSMin

What does the S in XS stand for? I don't think Apple even knows anymore so they just went with R because it's one letter before S.

I think John Gruber got it right when he said the following:

“Why choose names they know will be mispronounced by most customers? My only guess—and again, a genuine guess, because I’m telling you, they do not like to talk about why they choose the product names they do—is that they don’t care that millions of people will pronounce them ex-arr and ex-ess. They don’t care that ex-ess sounds like “excess” even though it’s used in the name of a cell phone that costs almost $1500. They think the X’s look cool and they go with their guts and that’s all there is to it.”

Maybe it has something to do with R being before S on the alphabet. Perhaps next year the flagship will be “iPhone XT” and the R will become the “iPhone XS” lol

If the option to use Small Caps is not available, then both the X and S or R are to be stylized in fully capitalized letters

How different can a Small Caps 'S' be from a lower case 's'? The same surely applies to a Small Caps 'X' and a lower case 'x'...

Yeah actually I did think about that. I’m sort of a pretender. Truly Maximum Excess is 512 GB. Go big or go home! :D

I’m planning to go all out next year. This year I’m getting my dream gold Stainless Steel S4 watch. The moolah is going to that instead of the most geebees.
