This is merely the latest indication of just how bad these names are. I've been in conversations with people who actually know that "X" is supposed to be "ten," but who say "Excess Max" anyway because the real name would be so absurd. The "Max" part is horrible too, frankly, since it sounds so cheap. It's frankly crazy that this insanity comes from the same company that once gave us such perfect and unadorned names as "iMac."

I think the real mystery is what the 'R' in XR stands for. Reduced? ColoRed? Anyone want to take a swing?
Ridiculous?
For either the price or the size.

R for Retina - the iPhone XR is essentially the old iPhone X

S for Super Retina - the new high res screen

Max for biggest - obviously.
For the XR, not quite, the X has a much better display and camera.;)

Yeppy! I used the correct names on all the forums I’ve been to!
[doublepost=1537307632][/doublepost]Btw why did they name it XR? X=10 but R= ??

Edit Ahha R= Retro!?

Who cares? It’ll be ancient news in a year. Since Apple (and phone companies) have this seemingly incessant ADHD.

I can’t speak authoritatively, but it didn’t escape my notice that “R” is the letter just before “S” in the alphabet, so ... a model just a bit less than the S model. Makes sense, at least.

Just be sure to use the lower case letter, and absolutely pronounce the X as eks! Maybe Apple will spend a bit more time not coming up with stupid names next time.

Wow, this is...really stupid.

If this is what they’re spending their time on, they’re doing it wrong.

“Boss, should we be working on the AirPower problems?”

“No! We need small caps for the new iPhone names. Did you hear me? Small caps!!”

Seriously. This company has lost their way. It’s a joke now.

Well... except we have to remember that...

Steve Jobs really wanted to call the iMac the MacMan... in an attempt to get some Sony Walkman status to rub off on Apple.

That said, it's interesting that many people expected Apple to take the other, perhaps classier path, and stop numbering the iPhone at all.

Yes, that obviously would have been terrible, but at least that was one idea among many and it never saw the light of day. Here, Tim actually approved "Max" and the letter-salad for these names.

It’s funny how you’re worried about this small little thing, yet got very upset over people correcting others that iPod touch is not called an iTouch.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
