Like many others here, I have the apple clear case and while I personally don't mind the magsafe circle on it (makes it kind of unique/stand out?) the dealbreakers for me are the tough buttons and bar-of-soap level of slippery-ness.

In a few threads I saw somebody mention offhand that these things get better over time. I've been searching for older threads and reviews on last year's case to see if there is any mention of that being real, with no luck.

Can anybody confirm from experience if the apple clear case has worn in nicely at all? I honestly assume not because otherwise all you fine folks would probably be trying to power through that break-in period as well...but just wanted to see. If it even got a LITTLE bit less slippery I think i'd be good...

Side note, because maybe there's no point to this, does anybody know if when you magsafe charge through other thin cases (which does work) do you lose some of the power in any way? i.e. is that what the apple cases's magsafe helps ensure, or is it really more to grant a stronger connection with other accessories?

Thank you!

I also have the clear case. I don’t know if it’s just me but charging via MagSafe is hella slow. It’s also extremely slippery I’m going to return it.

It’s also extremely slippery
I agree, very slippery. Shame on Apple for not having the leather cases available at release. I ordered a LONLI case off Amazon (no longer available) and fitment was terrible so it's going back.

The clear case for the 11 Pro was just as slippery, and no, it doesn’t “get better over time”, not in the least.

For me that isn’t a big issue- the phone rarely leaves my dedicated phone pockets and when I do need it, I like the fact that I can draw it quickly with no snagging.

Also, the 12 Pro clear case does seem to solve the biggest issue I had with the case on the 11 Pro- taking the phone in and out of the case (for times I used a silicone case, during motorcycle rides and other “harder use”) would leave many small scratches inside the case, and with a Space Black (now, Graphite) phone there were very obvious.

The clear case for the 12 Pro fits with a combination of magnetism and a lighter snap fit. The revised fit is less likely to create the interior scratches. I find the button presses to be fine, and access to the mute switch is good as well.

The new clear case is attractive to me, and for how I use the phone. I do not ever walk and talk on my phone, and use my Apple Watches for 90% of my interactions with the system while the phone sits in a pocket.

And, I don’t mind the distinctive “floating” MagSafe circle on the case. I think it looks great with my graphite phone.

However, the slippery surface will definitely be a show-stopper for many users and many use cases.

Based on previous experience, Apple clear cases do not yellow like every other clear case I’ve ever used or seen (with the general exception of Made in Japan Power Support cases on the 3G, 4, and 5- all of which were much better than their current offerings).

The Apple clear cases never crack and their external scratch resistance is quite good, in my experience.

The hand feel of the device in the clear case is much better to me, than with the well made temporary leather case I picked up from Amazon when the phone arrived.

And One More Thing...

Wirth the possible exception of a white silicone case, there is no easier case to keep clean. Those fingerprints that build up on other cases are hidden filth, but the clear case lets you know if it’s not as clean as it could be, and in the current circumstances, that is arguably a very good thing.

The apple clear magsafe case looks great, is very clear and shows off the phone well.

I had to return it because it was very slippery, but the deal breaker was how hard the buttons were to press. I felt like I was fighting with the power button to turn on Siri or switch on/off the phone.

The major issue my Apple clear case developed over time was cracks around the bottom edges from taking it off and putting it back on. I don’t even remove it very often and they are there.

Loved my Apple Clear Case for my iPhone 12 in every aspect other than how slippy it was. That alone meant it had to go back. Now using a JETech Clear Case and the MagSafe charger works fine through it and there doesn't seem to be an appreciable power loss. The magnetic snap isn't quite as firm as with the MagSafe Clear Case but it still attaches and holds firmly enough for picking up to check the odd message etc. The magnets in the clear case don't improve the power flow at all as far as I can tell, just ensure that the magnetic hold is as strong as when it's naked.

I agree with everything you've said here. I couldn't have said it better.

The 12 Pro definitely digs into the bottom corners inside the lip. Disappointing

You really don't have to press the power button for Siri, ever heard of "Hey Siri". And how often do you turn your off/on anyways. Another use of the power button is/was to lock it, but now with back tap even that is not required anymore :)

I do not have this issue. Possibly a defective case?
Nope. I've seen several similar reports on reddit.

I admittedly switch out the case every few days. I use the clear case at work so I can clean it with alcohol wipes/sanitize - I don't like doing that to my silicon or leather cases.

But it's basically where the edge of the phone hits that edge - it doesn't look like there's friction there when removing the phone so who knows?

Its a shame because I do love the case.. I wish apple just covered the bottom - I can't see how that wouldn've made it that much harder to remove.

I am moving to a 12 Pro Max so I may give it another try on that model.

I just hate the way all clear cases look, even when new. They look like a jelly fish on a phone and over time get worse.

I noticed the same, but the marks disappear when the phone is removed. It seems to be an artifact of contact with the corners.

Just to follow up here on my initial inquiries... it turns out I couldn't return my clear case anyway, because I got screwed by the Chase ultimate rewards apple store not having the normal apple return policy... crazy...

However, I actually decided to keep the case anyway because I also got the blue leather wallet to try, and I am having fun with the novelty and looks of it being on the clear case! It also helps bigtime with the slippery-ness issue, and the buttons are getting better to press, though I've also been switching to using the back-tap even more which I set up to do lock screen with 2 taps.

I did however also order like 6 clear cases from Aliexpress to try out and see if I strike gold with any of them, ha ha, after learning about Aliexpress on these forums

Thanks all!

It does go away? That's interesting. I do love the Apple Clear case and may just disregard the issue w/ a 12 Pro Max version of the case. 12 Pro is going back to apple.

Jelly fish analogy is a good one. I feel exactly the same way. I'd love to use one so I can see my phone but haven't ever come across one that looks the part.

When someone hands me a phone with a clear case, I don't want to touch it. You can see so much filth and marks on it.

As opposed to a leather case which is far more filthy, but hides the filth. At least these clear cases are easy to keep clean.

I get that and it's true but it's the visual.
