I love the fact that they went to the effort of wrapping the window fenestration, just to get a cleaner Apple logo.

I'm very inclined to believe that they will be opening up the Apple TV to third party app development. The main evidence:

- The tagline: "whole new world" etc
- Apple TV sales have skyrocketed. Would be stupid not to open it up.
- TV being an area of "intense interest" as Cook says.
- There are loads and loads of currently announced sessions and labs for the 2013 WWDC schedule. The number of them is so much that they are either introducing an absolute ton of new developer stuff for iOS and OS X, or are opening up Apple TV development.

Not saying it's a definite, but I would be genuinely surprised if they don't finally give Apple TV an app store. One may argue that the unannounced sessions could be for an iWatch, however it seems as though it's a little too early to bring something like that out. I would expect a watch closer to November or early next year.

This is pretty much what I think is going to happen. Apple TV update that allows third party apps. HBO Go will be one of the featured apps - Kessler already outright said so back in February. Too bad it's unlikely to be standalone.

IMHO, Apple TV apps won't be apps the way iPad or iPhone apps are because our interaction with a TV set is much more limited than with an up close and personal device like the iPad/iPhone. Instead, they're likely to be more like channels, where individual content providers can create shows and charge (or have ads) as they see fit (just like current app developers). If this is the case, I hope they have a bunch of big names ready to go like ESPN and EPL. I think they even stand a good chance of attracting some current cable channels that might be looking to get out from under the thumb of cable companies or provide a way for *new* channel startups. This could be potentially huge. Apple would essentially establish themselves as a 'cable' company where you can pick and choose which channels you want. This very well could be the Apple TV we've been waiting for.

It's too early for the iWatch. Tim Cook talked about it at the AllThingsD and he sounded like he doesn't feel like they've got the right form factor yet. They won't release it until they feel that it will catch fire with teenagers.

Ah, I missed this feeling of Apple excitement in the lead up to a keynote event. I'm actually really excited about Apple TV right now.

I think folders will look like the stack of 'icons' the apple logo is on, on the banner.

I agree with you. I just realized that the purple WWDC App that Apple released is in the same as the outdoor banner. So, they indirectly referrer to WWDC as the app name instead of writing it out. Apple is so clever!

:)

"catch fire with teenagers"
You got that right! haha
But i would think the ones with the cash to splash are guys in their 20s to early 30s

It's been over 200 days since Apple has had any big events.

This better be a big one.

If iOS 7 goes this way, I will be more than happy to upgrade. This looks super clean and new.

If the teenagers can afford iPhones, they can afford a watch. Besides, if it's expensive enough that only some teenagers can afford it, it creates demand because the other teenagers will want it. We all want what we can't have. :)

I posted in a thread a few weeks ago about an App Store on the Apple TV and heres my take on it.

-It will be announced as a feature of iOS 7.
-A limited number of apps will be released on Monday to tide everyone over including The CW which was announced (I think prematurely) a couple of weeks ago.
-A wider launch will take place in September/October when iOS 7 is released.

No one sussed this bit out yet I guess? The conference site is the shape and form of the New Mac Pro! It even has the logos on the side.. So obvious!

They used white cloths instead of black cloths. We're through the looking glass here, people.

Omg a white sheet instead of a black sheet !!!!!!

Guess you can see fewer "spots" when fanboys 'dribbling' all over it :)

2013: Year of the transparent icon.

Those are not icons in the images.... There multi-colored Apple TVs, small curved-corner little boxes now in multiple colors! That's what I first think of when I see that last photo... maybe they'll have the translucent shells like the old and imacs did. This just has to be what there hinting at right? :p

Let's show a comment of how many of us believe iWatch will debut at the conference!!

:)

Hey wasn't it the Romans who invented the sundial? A whole new way of telling time at the time?
I see a connection between that and the Roman numerals MMXIII.
Anyone else?
