@johnnyboy665 , @JarScott & @nwlondonlad I've been speaking with a Apple UK/Ireland Executive today - I pinged off an email to Apple's UK & Ireland Mark Rogers a few days ago expressing my disappointment with the IUP in the UK. They are now personally handling my order, no promises on delivering a phone - however they are trying their best.

I would recommend going through the same route; I only emailed in order to get the issue highlighted at the top and in order to make improvements next year.

I'd love to do that, what's the email address?

I was going to try this upgrade program to not have to deal with the hassle of reselling with ebay/craiglist but . . . now I'm glad I couldn't get my order in. Still gotta wait til October to get phone though o_O

I'll give it a shot.

Edit: Nm. Haha

"Thank you for contacting Apple. Due to extremely high volumes, we are unable to answer your chat at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please try your chat again later. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future."
Lol.... I guess overall call center volumes are too high... and perhaps more agents are being pulled to be on the phone. Who knows.

You're gonna have to make a monthly payment under either scenario. The payment doesn't go away just because you upgrade. The phone isn't free after 12 payments. You upgrade and keep paying right?

Its not that the phone isn't free. For folks who started their iUP last Sept, they have already made 12 payments.. so eligible for an upgrade.. Now the longer we wait.. the more payments we make.. Lets say for example sake, 13 payments (we get a phone in 1st week of Oct).. so 1 more payment and then you turn in your phone for a 7.. So coz of Apple's fault of not having a proper system to upgrade phone's.. the customer has to bear the brunt of making 1 more payment and also falling out of next year's upgrade in Sept..
If a customer himself/ herself decides to wait till Oct to upgrade, that's on them as they waited but Apple had an option.
In this case.. Apple hasn't given an option to existing iUP customers when they can get their phones.. So currently with Nov timelines floating.. we are on hook for 2 payments on a 6s which is gonna be turned in.. even though we wanna turn in now.
The longer we wait. the more $$ we are losing on the existing 6s

I hope this makes it a bit clear.

It took me 30 minutes to reach initial sales person, and then 5 minutes to convince him to transfer me to the IUP department, he insisted it didn't exist and that he was the person to talk to. I finally asked nicely if he could please just check again, and then the call transferred without him saying anything. They still can't find my phone as being enrolled, but they know it should be, so they are researching for me and will get back to me in 36-48 hours.

Just got off the phone with someone on Apple management after sending an email to Tim Cook.

Don't shoot the messenger...

Apparently, the date that you are given when you place the item in your cart is not the promised delivery date.

It's actually what date appears when you finally check out. With so many people ordering at once, that date is subject to change until you enter your credit card number, fill out an application for the upgrade program, or use your fingerprint for Apple Pay.

Since I was a new applicant to the Upgrade program, customer service says it was likely that between the time I put the order in my cart and completed the application and payment that the order jumped from September 16th to October 10-17.

The problems Apple is admitting to has to deal with current Upgrade program members -- not new applicants.

The woman I talked with could not tell me if orders would be moved up, only to say that Apple is shipping these phones out as soon as they are able.

That's not how math works unfortunately...you have to have 12 months paid in order to upgrade. Let's say you don't get the phone until November 1st, so you made 2 additional payments due to not getting the phone before 9/25 (when all IUP made their month payments). Fast forward to September 2017 and you want to get the next iPhone. You'll have to make a TRIPLE payment upfront to hit your 12 months paid in order to trade in your iPhone 7. I'm not about making triple payments because Apple didn't think this through...

If that were to happen, I wonder if Apple is going to reimburse their IUP customers.

Well, just spent two hours on the phone. The second person waited with me while trying to connect with the "iUP specialist". After two hours my call got disconnected. But within 15 minutes, I got a call from the specialist letting me know the other guy stayed on the phone waiting for her even though I got disconnected. She took my information and said she woul contact me within 48 hours. She said she would email me her contact information which I just now got. Nice to see them trying.

Um, what 'request to the local store'? We can see the local store has nothing, is there some other pending stock 'in the pipeline' that the store will be looking at?

They took my two possible stores, also. If they are looking at what stock is additionally promised a store for the next weekend, perhaps, that's maybe a solution. But why don't they know what the upcoming stock is and they can send a reservation...

Pretty sure they are looking at the upcoming stock for the day of...but not sure

I spent about 1 hour on the phone (mostly on hold).

When the first person answered (after about 40 minutes on hold), I gave her my phone # immediately (in case we got cut-off).

I explained my situation to her (I tried to order 256G Jet Black iPhone 7 via the upgrade program, could only get 128GB - despite the fact that I could order a "new" (outside of upgrade program) 256GB Jet Black without any problems).

She transferred me to someone else, at which point I started to RE-explain everything. This second woman told me that iPhone Upgrade Program phones CAN be sent via the mail to my house (and I have a certain amount of time to send back the old iPhone). BUT, this isn't true for T-Mobile (which I'm on) - you must pickup in the store for T-Mobile.

I started to try to get them to reserve a 256GB Jet Black at the same pickup location I already have confirmed for a 128GB. The phone call then cut-off @58 minutes (I could hear her, but she couldn't hear me). Since I had given a call-back number to the first person (and she was long gone), I didn't get a call-back.

I may try again later, but don't hold out much hope for getting the phone I want :(

Yeah, this is what IUP members saw also Friday.... I had a phone when I started the process, and when done, it's 'nothing is available except Texas, Alaska...'. The issue is that their shopping cart doesn't work like Amazon's (if it even does this), and pull your item from inventory when you pick it. It doesn't pull it until you check out.

Anyone else checking out with an X model like yours can exhaust inventory before you get to that point and leave it/you/them with zero to purchase. As we all found.

I called after reading this article. They took my name, which model I wanted, serial, and IMEI. Then after an hour of being on hold I was told that, "Being a part of the iPhone Upgrade Program does not guarantee you a phone" and to call on Saturday to reserve at my local store. Worth a shot though I guess...

I was surprised this didn't work correctly and that no one had thought it through. Typical Apple, though: they see a problem and they work to fix it. That's a lot better than just about any other big company I've dealt with.

See mine above too. Those wanting carrier independent / unlocked have absolutely no option at this point.

Thank god. Resellers can cry themselves to sleep with nothing!

This is the MOST irrelevant post of the day.

No one says we should get priority. But when I tried to preorder 5 seconds after the apple store app was up all phones were sold out and you couldn't make a reservation, while there was no issue to purchase a phone if you are not part of the Apple Upgrade program.
Same thing happened to me!!!
