Yes they do, and although I did not state that in my posting, the flight flew from China to Anchorage, then on the Louisville. Sorry for any confusion.Any planes coming to the US from a country like China goes to Anchorage Alaska first.. To refill and what not.
They will indeed need fuel-at least the 747-400F And 747-200F’s will. The range is under 5000nm which is roughly 10 hours flying time. They do a bit better coming this direction rather than going west due to headwinds. PVG-ANC is 4300+ miles which is about the range for a loaded 747FI'm aware of that that's why I included "and what not". I'm going to assume they are going to refill regardless if they need fuel or not.
No way I love watching those too! Or so I used to watch them alot
Shorter from Asia to Alaska and Alaska to Kentucky. Check out GCMap sometime. Here’s the ranges using Shanghai as a starting point.Yes has to clear US customs and I heard it's a shorter distance to travel from Alaska to Kentucky rather than a direct flight
I usually just watch them on youtube but the one that haunts me is the Helios Airways Flight when the plane wasn't pressurized and they had no clue so saddThere has been a new season that was released not that long ago. Some interesting investigations....
My favorite by far was the British Airways flight that was flying over Jakarta when it experienced St Elmo's Fire and the crew was safely able to land the plane even when it seemed like all 4 engines on the massive 747 had failed...
I believe customs is in anchorage as wellAny planes coming to the US from a country like China goes to Anchorage Alaska first.. To refill and what not.
That's what I said It's shorter from Alaska to Kentucky..Shorter from Asia to Alaska and Alaska to Kentucky. Check out GCMap sometime. Here’s the ranges using Shanghai as a starting point.
Yes, customs aswellI believe customs is in anchorage as well I believe
That’s gotta be an interesting job at the worldport! I know some of the Teamsters there-it’s quite the operation! Is your friend a flight dispatcher or more flight logistics (X plane loaded for Y destination) planner for UPS?? Keep us posted!I'll be checking in with my friend again in the morning. She works in Louisville in flight planning, so she will be able to confirm the route, (if we don't already know by then).
She did say it was all being consolidated in China and will be broken up once it gets to Louisville, which is normal. So we will likely all see updates at the same time. She said they will continued to be bundles as they fan out to final destinations.
I'll post again as soon as I know.
Yes I know-I was showing you the ranges and the website to check out. That's what I said It's shorter from Alaska to Kentucky..

Please keep us posted!I spoke with a friend tonight that works at UPS. She said she work verify in the morning, which by then we may already know the answer, but she thought the route was CGO - HKG - ANC - SDF

But if I were going to guess, they are on the inbounds to sdf right now. There is a fleet of UPS 747s and MD 11s heading in right now. 7 total planes coming from ANC.
Please keep us posted!
Anxiously awaiting-I remember when the phones were made in Shenzhen it was SZX-ANC-SDF or SZX-ICN-ANC-SDF. Now with the huge factory aka iPhone city in ZZ it’s anyones guess whether they go out on smaller freighters or even trucks from CGO/ZZ to PVG cause it’s for sure closer than Shenzhen. It is amazing there. I worked there for a while starting in the unload and working my way up to ramp operations. Was a really fun job out on the ramp.
She is more in logistics. When I asked if she knew the route she said she couldn't remember it off the top of her head but could find out when she got to work in the morning.
Just looked 7 total planes coming in as we "speak". I would imagine it's something big. It also could line up with what you said as 7 planes could contain all of the iPhone X orders..This could prove my hypothetical correct

In theory a 747 can hold a little over 150 tons. So 7 coming into the US would probably be around 3 million iPhones with the packages weighing around .4lbs
