I'm sure there is a setting to turn it off. I read that if you don't have 5G in your area it will just automatically connect to LTE and when there is 5G, it will automatically connect?

Ugh! Maybe if I use my XS Max sim in my 12 Pro Max it won’t access 5G and I won’t have to get a new more expensive plan. Does anyone know if the older nano sims will work ok in the iPhone 12s? (If you don’t care about 5G?). We do have AT&T 5G at my house & in the area.

I would think it would still work. Just not 5G. I'll just stick my nano sim card from my current one. 5G isn't prominent in my area. But they are expanding as for as I know as Milwaukee, WI just got added.

The poster I was replying to is buying 2 and from what I understand one will be a backup. So I was suggesting getting both colors then they could just SIM swap when they were feeling like the other color.

You don't need a new SIM for 5G. You do need a compatible plan.
It is possible that you might have to have AT&T update their system with the IMEI of your new device.

heck yeah, me too. I think it’s time to retire this X and go for the 12 Pro Max
So I got my preorder set with my Apple Card BUT I have a nice Apple gift card I want to use and I can’t split the order (I asked Apple and they said I can’t if I do monthly payments). I wanna pay in full but if this gives me a better chance of getting it, I can just pay it off soon. Since I can’t use the gift card, think I can go to the store “return” it and rebuy it with the gift card? Would they allow that or Will they take the phone away and that’s that ?
I haven’t preordered since the 6, but if you guys think I will be fine logging on as soon as preorders starts then I will do it the old fashion way (which I prefer). I just don’t wanna deal with sites crashing and not being able to get the order in!!

So I want to confirm a few things for us Max folks:
1.) We are NOT able to “get ready” yet, correct? Apple’s emails keep saying it’s about to end go get ready but every time I go check it it says Pro Max coming soon.
2.) For those using Apple Card to do monthly installments, is it possible to do that with the IUP? How does that work? The Apple Card just replaces your current credit card you’re using?

So, I just changed my plan to include 5G on AT&T. It comes out to $30 more a month. From what I have read, my XS Max sim won’t be able to access 5G if I were to get a sim free version? If I get the AT&T version, can I have them credit the activation fee?

get off at&t. they are just a terrible company ripping people off. $30 more a month for their 5g. i would switch to verizon at that price. im happy with t-mobile who is going to charge me $0 more a month for 5g. verizon is for sure faster and more reliable but im not paying that much so i’ll deal with t-mobile. it’s actually good in my area. well, one is a daily driver and one for a backup. If I get with the pacific blue color I'll just swap out the sim and use it in the Gold iPhone. I know I'm spoiled 🙁

I also did the “preorder” with Apple Card. To me it didn’t seem like they were actually going to hold a unit for my order because they stressed that it was first come, first served once preorder started. However they were also talking about changing your choice and FCFS so it was kind of ambiguous to me if I have my preferred unit held or not. Since I’m not sure I plan to just log on at the beginning of preorder and finish the order.
With that, I would recommend you do the same and just apply the gift card then. Also I am fairly certain you won’t be able to return and rebuy the same device as a way to adjust your payment method later.

I know this is going to sound dumb, but how are you all getting your pre order set up? I do not understand how to do this as it seems you cannot add thing to a virtual shopping cart so to speak?
Not a dumb question! You have to do it from the apple store app. Can’t do it from the web as far as I can tell.
