Word is that Apple is in fact sending out ship notices as we speak. Of course, not even Apple can get them out instantaneously so I twiddle my thumbs and wait.

This is weird... I know it's not uncommon to not have tracking numbers too far in advance, but it's now 36 hours from delivery times, and yet Apple hasn't passed along tracking numbers. I get their MOA for not sending them out too early, but come on, this is weird.

Can you imagine if Amazon or Best Buy waited until the night before an order is delivered to send out tracking info?

Bizarre....

I agree... I say to hell with the games. these should ship and deliver as soon as the are ordered and ready.....

They have a street date for a reason... yeah, marketing hype is part of it... but the whole mysterious tracking number thing bugs me. They SET their system to wait until the last minute to release it. In a perfect world, that's great, but UPS is far from perfect, and quite often packages get misrouted or need a nudge by the customer. UPS isn't monitoring the progress, nor is Apple... so it defeats the whole purpose of a tracking number if Apple doesn't share it with the customer as soon as the package leaves their hands.

They're not playing games. You try to ship out millions of new devices for delivery on a single day.

Well YOU aren't shipping it out, Apple, a many times over billion dollar company is shipping them out with the support of thousands of employees and using a network of hundreds of thousands of logistics employees. Don't act so silly like there's some guy printing labels in his garage, or licking stamps.

The time between my AW shipping info existing in the UPS system and me receiving it was about 18 hours total. 36 hours is plenty of time.

And yes, I can imagine exactly what it's like for Amazon to send tracking info right before an order is delivered. I'm a prime member, so I never have more than 48 hours between tracking info delivery, and it's usually a lot closer to 18-24 hours. Sometimes I get stuff same day and only get a few hours' notification.

You're making too much of this.

Oh yes they are LOL

It has arrived state side.

Now on to Seattle, I see only Alaska Airlines, no UPS primarily from Anchorage. Hmm, I guess its traveling with a few passengers then.

It will go to Louisville first. Even if that means flying directly over your house, it's how it works.

You're making too much of this.

You're defending complacency by Apple, yet you're in a thread tracking the moment by moment status of orders. Hypocrite much?

Anyhow, Amazon Prime is entirely different... it's overnight shipping, or 2 day at worst. Apple shipped via UPS International Express Saver, which from China is 5 days (24\7 so it's calendar days not business). So to compare the two is irrational. Many, myself included, had Apple turn the package over to UPS 6-8 days before scheduled delivery. If you have any excuses to defend Apple, I feel bad for you, because your expectations are very low for someone you spend a lot of money with.

The "licking stamps" made me laugh. But seriously, this is torture.

Yeah, you're in the same shipment with a bunch of us. We think they may have left for Louisville on Flight 99, but it departed and none of us has a departure scan yet. Other possibility is that they pulled some of them off the plane to send to their hub in California for the west coasters. If that's the case, they may not move again until tomorrow.

And don't be so arrogant as to deny the complexities of worldwide shipping, contractual obligations with different collaborative companies, and unforeseen events. You guys make me chuckle sometimes.

You're saying its complacency, but it might be contractual obligations. UPS has contraints that means it has to ship all these phones over a longer period, rather than just simply two day from China. They know iPhone buyers are rabid, they don't want to tie up CS reps explaining to someone why their iPhone isn't moving as fast as they think it should. People have had chats with UPS CS reps that hint at Apple's contractual obligations regarding package flow, so it wouldn't surprise me.

No, actually, not a hypocrite. I'm not in this thread to get myself all worked up and stressed out. I find the tracking fun.

As for Amazon, YOU asked the question. And as for feeling bad, I'm not the one all wound up about a phone delivery. If you're going to feel bad for someone, feel bad for yourself.

The system has always worked barring unforeseen problems such as blizzards, floods, earthquakes, and Pope visits.

Apple and their shippers, either UPS or Fedex have always delivered when they said they would. Much greater minds then yours have worked out the logistics, and year after year, product after product they have gotten the job done. You will get your gadget when every one else gets theirs, have no fear.

I have not gotten my tracking number yet either, and my gadget is sitting in a warehouse in Mt. Juliet, TN just 5 hours and 53 minutes from me. The shipping instructions say overnight delivery so I will have it bright and early Friday morning and I don't realistically expect to hear from Apple or UPS until sometime tomorrow.

Unless your in one of the affected areas in NYC, Philly, or DC, your phone will arrive on the day it was promised to you.

Yeah I get that.... but between the three (Apple, UPS, Customer), the customer should know when an expensive item they ordered ships. That doesn't seem too much to ask. It's fine if they don't want UPS to share it (tho based on this thread it seems if that's the contract, UPS broke it, LOL).

It always amazes me how forgiving people are when it comes to stuff Apple does. If Best Buy wouldn't provide a tracking number until 5 days after a product shipped, people would be LIVID.

Seattle? That seems...odd. Usually they go to CA, TN, or PA.

It's like beating someone over the head with a hammer sometimes, isn't it?
