the fight is on. Prepare to watch a battle of the titans, grappling giants in the age old rivalry.

It all begins...

So this year we have Sony's entire future resting on the success of PS3, with Nintendo and MS going all-out to stop the rise of the big black box; we've got Blu-Ray at the throat of HD-DVD and Zune steadily rising in the background to counter the iPod; we've got Vista, a next-gen OS from MS at a time when Apple are in the strongest position they have been in for years to take marketshare from Redmond and we're seeing all of these battlefronts colliding in our living rooms as battle breaks out across the world.

This year is 2007. This year is war.

MA.

(And i don't know about you, but i'm bloody excited.)

Im thinking that if it was a teaser just like 2002's it would have changed already. For the most part i think its a filler becasue apple took the hint people hate the get a mac add playing right wen they open their browser, but apple most likey figuerd it would be precived as a teaser so they went ahead with it.

The pictures going to move like a real eclipse. Then on the 9th youll be able to see the whole product.... Come on Apple wii... Imagine an Apple made wii.

if you turn the Apple to the side the rays form the letter K. So, I am assuming the Apple buyout of Kodak is finalized.

i don't think the hype around this MWSF could be any higher so i suspect we'll be disappointed again.

Good point.

I thought the very same thing when I ran across the homepage this morning.

However, Apple doesn't say anything about January, but rather 2007. If you don't get what you want from MWSF they can always say there's the rest of the year. Fight the hype.

Macshrine: have you seen it?

Macshrine.com states (http://www.macshrine.com/2007/01/02/exclusive-macworld-2007-keynote-plan/) that

"this time we’ve got hold of exactly what Steve will be showing off at the Keynote next week. Sadly it seems that Apple has hyped this event up way too much, unless there have been last minute changes (like last year)…".

Hope this weekend will come VERY fast, so we'll see.
And Macshrine be wrong.
That teaser is SOO terrific and "promisingly suprising"...
Hope it won't be a delusion :(

Luca

Macbook and nano..what else?

Yeah, sorry, possibly sandwiching together a few too many Apple-isms. ;)

But imagine being able to tell people you didn't just buy a Mac Pro, you bought a Mac Pro Extreme...

Imagine the buzz when you heave that glossy black 8-core Mac Pro out of the box for the first time. Now imagine how you'd feel if it looked just like any other dual-dual Mac Pro...

Although what do Apple do when they make a faster one..? call it the Extreme Plus? (see what I did there? :) )

Beatles on iTunes

Jobs pays the Beatles 100 million for an exclusive iTunes deal and kicks in another 25 mil to pay off Lady Heather McCartney. Also gives her a copy of VISTA:D

I've glanced over most of the posts in this forum, and while there has been a lot of analysis about what the 'teaser' could mean, no one has suggested the idea of the light being an allusion to a projector. I'm not saying Apple's releasing one, but rather that it could be a reference to movies and Apple's bid to take over the livingroom. With that in mind, I don't think the keynote will be much different than what macshrine has posted on their site. The problem with hype is that you build yourself up to a frenzy of expectation that can't always be fulfilled. Just look at Michigan's crushing loss yesterday to USC ::cries:: :(

i wish macbook pro in black is coming up!!!:D

I think people look into these things WAY too much then wonder why they are disappointed with what has been released.

To me its just 'the dawning of a new era' message i.e moving into new markets etc. Nothing cryptic just obvious. I agree sometimes Apple play with these things but they are a lot more obvious and are noticed straight away.

I always cringe a little bit when I see Apple showboat so willingly... I'm a believer in underpromising and overdelivering...not the other way around. Apple should play down the rumors and expectations, or else Wallstreet is going to have a field day punishing Apple on Tuesday. Of course, then there is the regular December quarter earnings coming out in the same timeframe....

I agree. There is only so many times apple can get our hopes up for what proves to be nothing special at all.

Forget MW, I want a Shuffle now....

So go and buy one....they are CHEAP

When is the NAMM show? I think thats where the Displays will be updated.

I'm all for hardware upgrades, but I think there'll be a good 40-50 mins on iLife & iWork...

EDIT - whoops forget NAMM, I meant the same event where we saw the Hi-Fi and Intel Mac Mini

I totally understand what you are saying, but this is misapplied. Apple doesn't try to promise world peace with their products, but they do try to make you sweat with anticipation to find out what is coming. They believe that you have to sell the sizzle to get people to buy the steak. Seriously, people here are salivating for the next model to come out. Look at other companyies that are more low-key in their announcements (Dell, HP, Gateway, etc.). Do they deliver substantially similar products? Sure. Is anyone waiting in line for the chance to catch a glimpse of their CEO showing a tiny bit of said product?

Apple will save the underpromise, overdeliver bit for the functionality of the product. They will go out to make you want to know what that functionality is.

Doing it this way also helps stock prices. Insane rumour hype of 24 core iPod phones will boost stock prices because if it did come out it would blow everyone out of the water. Then when then release iTV and a bit of info on Leopard stock doesnt skyrocket because theres no 24core iphone but it does still rise as new products mean new business.

Well here are some facts:

Pro applications:
- Shake has not seen a Major release in a long time (4.1 was the switch to Intel)
- Final Cut Pro + Studio apps have not seem major releases for a long time
So I would expect these to be the BIG tings in 2007 (NAB 2007 maybe?)

Office Applications:
- IWorks: need a major revamp to make them fully useful and useable (spreadsheet? PAges more like word?). I would expect the announcement at MWSF 2007

Hardware:
I have been using my Apple Cinema display (30") for a long time and I am not surprised by the new screen rumors. Remember that HD DVD and Blu rays are here and that they require HDMI connections.

Iphones: too many rumors for this to be a lie. So : It will be true... Question is: Will they be enough phones available RIGHT AWAY? demamnd is going to be huge (form / design / software: I expect Apple to come BIG on this one to really differentiate themselves from the crap around there).

Ipod Video: Jobs is going to announce major agreement between Apple and the Movie Industry at MWSF.

Tablet PC? Would love it and would buy one right away

Buy Office if you want Word. Pages is designed for a blend of word processor and desktop publishing tool. It's going to be a low-end solution to solve problems that is overkill to InDesign or Quark.
