Compensation?
Jaysus. If yours doesn't work right, return it.
Why are so many people struggling with this issue? I mean, return it already.
This is EXACTLY why I keep my old iPhones until I have a new one, make sure the new one works to my expectations, etc. THEN I sell the old one.
Sure, I might make a wee bit less than those who dump theirs a couple weeks before launch, but at the end of the day, if my new phone is defective or not to my liking, I'm not without a properly operating iPhone.
I know it's tough when you get used to using the iPhone. Mine is not just a phone... it keeps me connected to a variety of things I use every day.
Which is why (again) I choose to keep my old phone until I'm sure the new one works, and that I like it.
Eh. That's just my advice.
Don't wait for Apple to recall all your phones or give you money. For the 1st gen, we all got 100USD gift cards to the Apple store because they dropped the price so quickly on an unsubsidized phone.
For subsidized? You won't get much. Maybe a 30USD GC for a bumper (as others have already suggested). That'll be it.
Maybe there will be a recall, if they trace this to some defective batches. It seems that there are quite a few people out there that simply don't have an issue. Soo... I can assume from that they their phones were in batches that were more reliable re: the antenna/signal drops.
If Apple knows this, they won't recall them all.
Also, if they know this, they won't refurb the returned units. They'll pull parts off them and make new phones. Recycle, if you will, any pieces that are easy to salvage.
That's my guess, anyway.
They want the phones with defects. They can get them out of circulation.
Soo... return your phone. Maybe you'll get one from a batch that works better.
