So, if I understand this correctly, downloading a free Google App for calendar sync, plus Google push email will effectively replace MobileMe?
shervieux, are you saying that it costs $9 per month to have Google push mail and calendar sync instead of MobileMe ? I'm not understanding this.
Not exactly, here is the clarification (your first part is correct, second part is a little off):
1. Gmail is free
2. you can configure gmail to get your email on your outlook and phone and even your mac. Google has extensive configurations and help to get it all working how you need. I suggest you looking at it as your needs and system may be different from mine.
3. you can configure gmail calendar to email you your daily agenda, and also send you an email and text message of appointment reminders (kinda like how outlook pops up a window saying you have an appointment xxx from now) - yes the alarm is configurable. - also free. text message and email reminders is great as you can get it on your phone and if you are out, you never miss an appointment. Of course your phone company's test messaging terms still apply.
4. there is a free app you can install on your PC that will sync your gmail calendar with your outlook. works in both directions from PC and from GMAIL cloud. Unlike mobile me, which I still cannot get my appointments from my PC to the cloud (mobile me erases my entire calendar and contacts on the web interface and then when the next sync occurs, wipes out my outlook

). With this free app, your outlook calendar still looks and functions the same.
The free calendar sync for PC's for google is at:
http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=89955
or just google for "google calendar sync" and make sure you go to the google web address.
The draw back with Mobile me is the two separate calendars for work and home. Since the syncing of mobile me does not work right, I have 20 calendars in my deleted items folder that I cannot delete. They show up as calendars and not appointments in my deleted folder.
With the Google one, because it uses your main calendar as outlook was designed to do, it works perfectly.
5. There is a mac version of calendar sync (haven't tried it yet - I had to work 14 hrs two days this week).

The mac version costs $25 - one time. there is a free 30/day trial available. looks like I will not have time until the weekend to try it myself.
6. There is lunar pages for web hosting that is only $9/month and from what CITI posted - it will work with your iweb.
http://www.lunarpages.com/
7. there are other apps that will sync your gmail contacts (I have not found one from Google yet) with your outlook - however I downloaded 2 of them from other websites and they did not work. I need to keep searching. However if you are like me, and your "main" contacts do not change much - then you could always export and import vcards. GMAIL, Outlook, and Mac's address books supports vcards. If I come across a good contact sync for the PC and MAC for Google - I will let you know.
Like I said in my other posts. I adopted mobile me when it first came out. had a few glitches, but nowhere the number people were posting. Now about 20 days layer (been that long already?), my problems ares still not fixed - and I started having problems that I did not have before
What I am saying is that for the most part you can get most everything for free (or a less money - since you have to buy busysync for the mac), with Google's GMAIL and it works.
Thank's for your help CITI. then for the price of Mobile me, you can do your webhosting through lunar pages.
Again Mobile me, would have been a nice all in one - in one installer, but it doesn't work. Google does and has more features.
