I am not sure how many days I am getting from my 4S. I would say quite a few. Because of server changes, I have yet to add my email addresses to my new iPhone. Do those of you who are having the problem get lots of email?

You get multiple days? I get about one and that's with location services turned off all the way, no e-mails set up, no skype and whatnot running in the background, screen locking after a minute.

We've seen the issue on a couple iPhone 4 phones as well. I haven't seen any indication that it's an iPhone 4S fix, but rather a general iOS 5 fix.
It's def not specific to the 4S, as my 3GS and 4 have been restored numerous times after updating to iOS 5. The phones worked perfect for about a week, battery life was excellent especially on my 3GS.. then they both started using up the battery fast as hell among other glitches like both losing 3G/Edge and WiFi for days even after restoring to previous backups, while people I've had over that didn't update to iOS 5 had their phones working fine.

Others reported the same issues, battery life and everything excellent at first, then you can see across different boards that even ones posting how good their phones were, now plagued with glitches out of nowhere, I was one of them lol.

I would guess between three and 4 depending on my usage.

Edited to say, I have everything turned on. Perhaps it is only the people who are turning stuff off that are having the problems. :)

Re edited to say: I spend about 95% of my time with wifi connection. I wonder if that could be a factor?

I can't help but wonder if we would have just gotten the silent treatment from Steve in the same situation...

From what we hear, Cook had to badger Jobs to do the right thing. Jobs sat there pouting about some Google conspiracy, and yet the irony is that Apple knew about this problem well before Google's "conspiracy". Ladies and gentleman, that is the definition of smug.

Wow, impatient much? Have fun with your HTC crap phone that dies every 4 hours.

I used up my patience waiting for the iOS 4 fix on my 3G.

No reason to assume I'm getting a 'droid phone, though. I'm just not paying a monthly bill on a phone that's clearly not working adequately.

There's patience, and then there's blind allegiance.

This must be a pretty big story now. Either that, or its a slow night for my local news station, KDKA in Pittsburgh. "It can order you a coffee, but won't hold a charge! See what Apple is doing to fix it, tonight at 11"

Yay. I've turned off push email and stuff with iCloud, Yahoo, and Facebook (which is why I wanted a smartphone in the first place), and my battery still drains pretty quickly all day.

My story

iPhone 4 - battery has been poor after upgrading to iOS 5. My wife uses this one. She'd wake up with the battery way down - once completely drained.
I did a full dfu restoring it as a new iPhone - installing the apps one at a time. All has been fine since then.

But first, my 4S battery was horrible right from the start.
I set it up using a backup from my old 4 (not my wife's 4).
I did a restore from a backup. That didn't help.
I then did a fresh install as a new iPhone. That didn't help.
Then I did a dfu full restore as a new iPhone. That worked for about 3 days, then everything went bad again.
I took it to my Apple Store hoping that they might want it for testing. The did, so I took home a brand new one (4S). That was 10 days ago. I set the new one up as a new iPhone, not from a backup.
NO PROBLEMS NOW!
I'm convinced that it's a software bug.
I should mention that I've had this problem in the past immediately after upgrading the iOS software. I've ALWAYS been able to fix it with a dfu restore, but not this time.

Why would you not update? Seriously, I don't get it.

People seem to think just because their phone doesn't have any problems, means an update shouldn't be released at all. As long as their phone is OK, they don't care what happens.

Sounds like I'm one of the lucky ones. my iPhone 4's battery life has improved on iOS 5, I think.

My iPhone 4 is doing great with ios5. However, my iPad 1 was brutalizing the battery. It drained 10% in about one hour of standby. I turned off notifications and did the time zone thing, it's back to normal now.

I have everything turned off that is suggested by anyone, but my 4S has very ppor battery life. Very light use kills it. I unplug it, drive 50 minutes to work listening to audiobook, and it loses 10% on the way. And it just keeps crushing the battery so need to recharge every night after light use. I hope it gets fixed.

Why are background apps killing battery? I thought Apple's whole solution avoided that. I wish I could turn off multi-tasking. Battery life is far more important to me.

Does anyone think its possible Apple will include the 3G on/off button in this update??? I have a much better signal when its EDGE only.

Are you suggesting that every bug in all software affects 100% of customers?

Of course not. Despite being same software, certain behavior depends on certain conditions.

arn

If the condition is that the phone is turned on then yeah it effects close to 100% of customers...

How can it only be "a small number of customers" when all the 4S' run identical software?

Serious question.

Must be PR trying to soften the OMG LIGHTENING ROD IPHONE BREAKING NEWS aspect of it.

Exactly. Also, I wonder why each time there is a problem that affects "a small number of users" I'm always one of them!!

Settings > General > Network > Enable 3G. Switch it to "Off" and you're good. What am I missing?

That's Strange

I've noticed a little drain in my 4S, but I think it is primarily due to having the screen brightness at max because i was plagued with a yellow tint and am trying to fix it.

My iPad 2 on the other hand... Is horrible.
One time i let it fully charge overnight, didn't use it the next day until night time and was shocked to find my battery at 53%

I'm pretty sure the bug has something to do with notification center.

My iPad seems the same....Still getting around 9 hours of use with IOS5 installed, but I think you are right about the notification centre...Might have a further play with my 4S today and see what if any difference tweaking the settings makes.

Battery Life

Hey Guys,

Just to add a lighter note to all the battery life discussions. I had a 7 year old Nokia until the 14th Oct when my pre ordered 64gb 4S turned up.

This phone is awesome beyond belief. I was initially thinking to myself, what! 1 day use and I'm on 20% charge, but its such a novelty for me at the moment that this thing is in almost constant use. This phone amazes me constantly I love it. When I stop and think what's going on inside it its mind blowing for me. With the screen off and not using it mine drains about 1%/hour which I guess is pretty normal?

My Nokia lasted 6 days between charges, but was *****e.

Just a different perspective :)

Greg

On the iPhone 4 battery life has improved with ios 5, but safari has become laggy when scrolling on some sites and text input, cursor movement and selection is painfully slow. Not as bad as ios 4 on 3G, but quite close. Are they going to fix this? It was perfect in the last release of ios 4 so why break it?
