This change should reduce the incidence of people inadvertently disabling home automation by powering off their iPad or taking it off premises.
True, there are over 6 Billion people on the planet, but there is also over 8 Billion people on this planet too. And, with over 6 billion people in the world...
The higher end M1s in a small device would cost way more than a PS5 and have a garbage eco system for at least an entire generation. No thanksIt’s time for Apple to finally release an AppleTV Console Edition, along with a proper strategy a la AppleTV+ for AAA gaming, they have the silicon and the war chest to take on Sony & Microsoft.
The higher-end M1 configs have PS5 level graphics and they could unite from iPhone to Mac to TV the ecosystem.
Money is what make Tim Cook smile. You want Tim to smile, don't you?The question is WHY. C´mon, Apple, don´t make people buy Apple TV´s or Homepods just for greed.
With cell phones and tablets being ubiquitous, the concept of a stationary "home hub", just as having a device dedicated to portable audio alone, is redundant. The phones and tablets use the same hardware and software as the tethered devices, only more capable. Removing the functionality from iPads is not motivated by technology, so the assumption that the purpose is to direct people to buying more-stuff-they-don’t-need seems like a reasonable one.what a stupid analogy lol. Music was one of the three orginal purposes for the iPhone, The number of people using Homekit with an iPad as their only home hub has to be less then .5% of iPad owners.
I won’t spend at least $99 for a “hub”. I already have an alternative to an Apple TV (not better but pretty decent) and a way better sound system than a HomePod.The truth of the matter is, iPad was never reliable as a HomeKit hub. Yes, there are probably few exceptions, but it is often flaky and unresponsive. $99 for HomePod mini or $179 for Apple TV 4K (2nd gen) gets you far more dependable and capable HomeKit hub, with support for Thread.
I would buy more HomePods.. but not the Minis.. A serious downgrade over the OG Homepod. It's simple. Apple wants to sell more HomePods and Apple TVs
Wouldn’t e-arc work to get your music to your hi-fi receiver?Smells like a new product on the horizon. maybe time capsule or new full-size HomePod.
the main issue I see if buying the same product over and over again to get all functions. You need the iPad to get touch with your m1, you need the Mac to get macOS with your m1, you need a HomePod to have voice recognize the room, you cant just plug in the Apple TV in your stereo and use it to play Spotify/podcast/Apple Music and so one. Always something more with comparable hardware.
I got a good hifi system, why force me to put a HomePod in the same room to listen to music at lower quality instead of just putting a mike and a audio out in the Apple TV.
in terms of sustainability that’s really ******.
In this case its a $50 to $99 expense for a homepod mini new or used and I wouldn’t call it too bad. Can still use iPad for controlling homekit.Thats why Home Assistant or other Smart Home Systems home-only-owned-by-you are only good options.
We see an Killswitch with all it’s “beauty” here.
Apple decides “your” stuff is not working after update anymore unless you buy something instead. Well done 👍
Personally I have HA on Raspberry Pi and I stay away from Xiaomi, IKEA systems (use their products but connected directly not via their clouds).
They’re not removing this functionality from the iPad.So now I’ll have to buy a Home Pod or an Apple TV to tell Siri to turn my TV on or to change my lights - fun! not really.
