Gazelle offered me 350 for my 5 apple $403 so apple is better.....but I'm not waiting in line ill preorder so ill prob have to eBay the old phone.

oh yeah, let me trade in my iphone 5 and get half off a new iphone....

OR.....do what i've always done......sell it outright on craigslist for what it's really worth, and get the upgraded phone at no cost!

Presumably this is for the people to which the few hundred pounds difference extra you'd make from selling on eBay is peanuts.

And really lazy poor people.

A few hundred pounds eh? I'm not saying you're wrong, but on average, I've been seeing 16GB 4S's go for $215-$250 on eBay. On Gazelle, it's $175 as a previous poster said. So $40-$75 difference isn't anything to scoff at, but maybe things are different across the pond. A few hundred pounds would be like $300-$400!

I just checked out the recycle feature on uk apple store. £85 for my 16gb iphone4 with scratches. Mind you I said it works properly but the home button doesn't work. If I state the phone dies not function correctly i get offered £12!!!

Can you do this at the store at the sametime the new ones come out, or do you have to ship your old one and live without your iPhone for a period of time until the new ones come?

I'll stick to selling on craigslist. Value is higher there. Gazelle would only offer about $330 for my 64 gig unlocked Verizon iPhone 5. I can get around 400 on CL.

Depends on how one values there time though. Gazelle you basically put it in a box and drop off. CL you have to post a message, filter out the fakers, respond to interested parties, wait for or meet buyer, hope the buyer shows up. All that takes more than an hour cumulatively. Unless one works at the mall for $15/hr, $70 for more than a cumulative hours work isn't worth that hassle.

White and Black iPhone 4S on Verizon with everything good, all accessories, etc. was $181.00 per iPhone. Gazelle is offering $175. So definitely a better deal, but with Gazelle I wouldn't have to ship it back until after I get my new phone. Anyone know how long I get with Apple?

Or a fast food worker hoping to get $15/hr

Best Buy is doing trade-ins and you get 50% off an iPhone 5 purchase.

You get 50% off, maybe, depending on the model of the phone and then you only get 50% off the $200 price (subsidized) of the iPhone 5. There a many places you can get a better value where you just send in the phone. So you 4S is worth about $100 to Best Buy.

Damn Never heard of them.

I used them last year and it was as easy as gazelle. It took a little longer than I'd hoped to get paid, about 10 days after they got the phone. The price they were offering for my 4S before the 5 was announced was about $30 higher than just after.

Here's my research so far:

iPhone 5 32 GB (AT&T)

Gazelle = $335
OrangeOffer = $425

Based on selling an iPhone 4S for $350, a Nexus 4 for $350 and an HTC One for $450 earlier this year (all 16 GB AT&T models, except the N4 which was unlocked), I was planning on pricing my iPhone 5 32 GB at roughly $500 on eBay - which after fees from PayPal and eBay would likely drop down to near the $425 I would get from OrangeOffer......and its more of a hassle.

I'm thinking I'll go with OrangeOffer. Can anyone confirm/vouch from them as I had never heard of them until this thread.

I got my 4S locked in at $175 at Gazelle for trade in until October.

I have a 4S locked in at $205, but I suspect that's because it is a 32G, instead of 16G.

Apple may offer a bit more, but I'd have to deal with the crowds at the Apple Store.

As I said in the post just above yours, I used them last year and it was easy. You print off a prepaid UPS label and drop it off. I was a little miffed about how long it took to get paid. I finally contacted them and got a check in the mail a couple days after that. I can't honestly remember how long it took to get paid, I'm thinking like 10 days after they received the phone, or like 2 weeks total from the time I dropped it off at the UPS store. I don't think that's their standard time, or at least not according to their website, so maybe my one experience was the anomaly.

orangeoffer says 425 for my iphone 5 32gb .. not bad but cant sell until i have the new one in my hands

$285 for a 32GB 4S, vs. $205 at Gazelle.

However as you note, you must ship it within 5 days, printing the pre-paid shipping label at the time you receive the offer.

Gazelle sends you the pre-paid shipping material, and the offer is currently good until 2013-10-15.

OrangeOffer's price is probably going to drop once the iPhone 5S's start arriving. I'll check their price again after I actually have the 4S.

This will retain more users on the Apple platform. Out with the old and in with the new.

i'll give you two iPhone 4's and a 4S for an iPhone 5S. since I like your face, i'll also throw in a free t-shirt and potato peeler. deal?

----------

50% off the subsidized price. So they give you $100 for your $450 iPhone 4.

This will be Apple taking advantage of those that do not want to both selling on CL or eBay. You will probably get 1/2 what you can sell it for. The best buy deal is horrible.

It looks like they are - it seems 2nd hand iPhone 4S 16GB fetch £230-300 ($355-$460) on eBay whereas trade in sites will give you around £180 ($278).

Don't forget that's the cheapest 4S - a 2 year old phone. The margins widen a lot when you move to the 32/64GB versions and even more so when you move up to the iPhone 5.

For my AT&T iPhone 5 64GB
Apples Recycle program: 391
Gaezelle (Flawless): 350 (Good): 330.

So, for me, it looks like Apple's recycle program is the way to go
