Actually they are. All iPhones have the exact same hardware (the radio chip supports GSM/CDMA/LTE/etc), the firmware differs depending on carrier. This allows apple to manufacture one device for all current carriers.

Starting with the 4s.

Comparison Shopping for trade in

Lets see i have a 64g iphone 5 from T-Mobile and here are my options at this time: Apple trade in - $253, T-Mobile Trade in - $269.00, Gazelle online - $ 350.00. We can see how much Apple values there products... Guess i'll stick with Craigslist to get the maximum value for my investment....

Question:

In the past I had to jailbreak and unlock my iPhones, which I sold for quite a bit on eBay (never had a problem with eBay, always go through PayPal and research the buyers stat's and comments). The lowest amount I ever received was $350 for a 1 ½ year old iPhone.

I haven't done this since the 4, what is the situation now with unlocking devices? I asked earlier and cannot google the info, but I could swear new unlocking laws are putting a damper on selling devices.

"Information about OrangeOffer.com was first submitted to Scambook on Oct 16, 2012. Since then the page has accumulated 15 consumer complaints. On average users reported $162.27 of damages. Scambook's investigation team reached out to this company a total of 5 times, Scambook Investigators last contacted them on Aug 09, 2013."

Anybody actually use these guys? I'm seeing all kinds of horror storied involving returned checks and no payments being made via PayPal.

I'd stick to something bigger if you don't want to go with Apple, like Gazelle or NextWorth.

NextWorth came in about $50.00 higher than Gazelle on my iPhone 4s's.
Also, use Facebook10 for an additional 10%.

iPhone 4s 16gb was going for $197.00
iPhone 4s 64gb was going for $245.00

Dang - well I guess I don't have to actually ship the phone. I'll just ignore the offer.

Never heard of NextWorth either - are they reputable? They are quoting 370 for my 5, which isn't bad at all, but I feel like I could get more on eBay anyways....

Probably will just go the eBay route with a $500 price tag - if it doesn't sell, I'll go through one of these sites.

I'm not sure if this program is also available from Apple Canada or not but I wonder if remaining AppleCare+ is factored into the value.

I still have almost 16 months left on AppleCare+ on my factory unlocked iPhone 5 so for someone like me it's probably best to sell privately.

You eventually got your money though correct? I did the PayPal route - no check, which is what looks like most of the complaints on scambook are about.

I did, but not until after I contacted them. They didn't live up to their promise of making payment within 48 hours, not by any means. It's hard to pass up the extra $ they're offering, and I did eventually get paid 100% of the offer but reading other people's concerns, I'm not sure they're worth the chance.

Keep checking for specials at Best Buy. Back in June, I traded in a low-end iPhone 4 (that had not been active on any carrier for 8 months) for $199 towards an iPhone 5. All I paid was $10 for tax. It even had some minor scuffs, but the Best Buy guy just shrugged and said that Apple was paying the difference over their usual trade value for that condition. So apparently Apple and Best Buy partnered for that "one day only" deal. It was probably the last chance for trade value like that on a 4 (ie. not 4s).

Bonus: since it was a new activation for my daughter, I also got an additional $50 Best Buy gift card and $50 credit to my AT&T Bill.

i'll give you two iPhone 4's and a 4S for an iPhone 5S. since I like your face, i'll also throw in a free t-shirt and potato peeler. deal?

50% off the subsidized price. So they give you $100 for your $450 iPhone 4.

Yea, that doesn't sound so great. Gazelle or the like may be a better deal. I checked their site a few days ago since my wife's 4s is about to come off contract to see what we could get out of it in case she wants to upgrade. $185 is what they offered. I thought that was pretty good. There are other similar companies I am sure, Gazelle is just the one I had seen advertised on TV.

... trade-ins for working iPhone 4 and 4S devices ranging from $120 to $250 ...

Next time one of your fandroid friends dredges up the "Apple tax" argument with respect to iPhone, hit him with that beautiful little trade-in value fact. And ask him what his cheesy plastic Galaxy Sx's resale value is.

Apple is taking business from small entrepreneurs and it's sad!

Ok, so I just got an account so I could voice my thoughts to all you who want to listen. I personally don't like Apples trade-in program. They are just trying to make users buy there own products.

Before Steve died, Apples marketing was a "pull" approach. People "desired" products so they sold themselves. It was either their design, or "apple-genius" that made people want the products, but not it seems to be different. Correct me if i'm wrong, but it seems Apple is using more of a "pull" approach to marketing and trying to get people using their products in different ways that I don't think are necessarily helpful for the company.

For example, they now have there own iPhone trade-in program, which is great, however you ONLY get in-store credit, so technically you "HAVE" to buy a Apple product or something in the store that they approve of. There is no more "choice" involved I feel like. They also might offer you a little more so you feel "oblicated" to go with them appoosed to another buyback comapany. These are all tactics to "make" their users buy their products.

They also are stifling other's businesses by becoming a "apple-control-freak" http://vaultfeed.com/in-store-apple-iphone-trade-in-pays-less-then-gazelle-and-others/ summarized it nicely when they said "Well you wont be able to unless you sell your iPhone elsewhere." Its just another indication that Apple wants control.

I have been seeing the prices that they are offering and they are clearly equal if not above those other buyback companies that have come into the realm like Gazelle.

But now we are all going to feel slightly "coerced" by the Cupertino stores to "buy" and "trade-in" giving Apple ALL the complete control on the sales and distribution of its Apple IOS devices. Is this something you really want?

NOT ME!

I have a feeling that Apple will be "secretly unlocking" these devices and then selling them as "FACTORY UNLOCKED" for an even higher price un-be-known to the seller trading in at the counter LOLZ...

----------

So I can't trade in my old 3GS?

They might not give you anything.. :( sad for you, but you can upgrade to a new iPhone 5 for $699? lol

Nextworth, gazelle, deviceflip, cashitgadget, appleshark, sellcell...

theres a million... get offers from all of them and figure it out. Orange what ever offer haven't heard of. sounds like a dumb name...

Make sure you read what others have said on scambook.com, like darcsyd3r posted about on this thread. I'm actually reconsidering using them again.

I was all ready to move forward with OrangeOffer, until I read what you wrote and checked out that scambook website and read some complaints. I am not wiling to take that risk. Thank you!

There's no conspiracy here, pal. Sorry to burst your paranoid bubble. A brief Google search told me (via Motley Fool), that iPhone customers have a 91% retention rate. So...... these users were already planning on buying a new iPhone, now it is just cheaper & simpler.. without having to mail a phone in to a random internet company or meet up with strangers via Craigslist to save a few bucks on their new iPhone. There is ZERO "coercion" going on. Take off the tinfoil cap & join reality.

$296 for a T-Mobile 16 gig iPhone 5 that is 4 months old.

No thanks, Apple. eBay here I come.
