Rather useless, imo. Not as fast/powerful as regular socket-lightning chargers & way bulkier to carry around. Also these Qi chargers can’t be found as easily as normal electric sockets.
One doesn't carry around a wireless charger. They are used in specific locations like bed side or desk.

Still confused ha. Does this mean the iPhone will work with a $10 Qi charger from AliExpress? Or is it only compatible with selected MFI ones ?

I thought they would have adapted something like just snapping your fingers or tapping your heels together and the phone would be charged. Disappointed.

Companies have been working on area power for a while, although I've mostly seen it used in demonstrations for tv's and lighting.

The problem is it's inefficient and only works for a short range. And it scares people because 'radio waves' and 'radiation ', so it also has a public relation problem.

Ok, dumb question but will the phone still be able to wirelessly charge with a case on it?

It seems at least for the leather once from apple it does work wirelessly. Think as long as no meathel is in the case you should be fine
